eastbayrae
I got the A09 update off Dell's site and it won't work. I try and run any of the executables and each says they won't run on my PC. How do I fix this?
Founder Michael Posted December 28, 2012 Founder Share Posted December 28, 2012 What's the error you are getting?
svl7
The A09 update comes as a .iso file which contains a DOS flash utility as well as the firmware image. You can't run it from within Windows. You either need to burn a bootable CD with the iso, or you create an USB stick which is capable of booting DOS and put the firmware image as well as the flasher on it and run it manually. eastbayrae
I tried using a USB stick with Win 7 on it and I couldn't access the flasher from the cmd prompt. I get the 'device is not ready' error.
Moderator BAKED Posted December 29, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 29, 2012 no you need to make a bootable DOS usb pen drive or cd and run it.
eastbayrae
Everything I have read telling me how to make a bootable DOS USB stick tells me to add the windows files to it. I don't remember having to do all of this when I flashed the BIOS to A06.
eastbayrae
Alright I found the problem. I need to add quotes around anything .exe file I try and run from the command prompt in DOS. Now the problem is it says the flasher isn't compatible with the version of Windows I am running.
svl7
You need to run it in DOS, not in Windows. It's a DOS tool. Thus why you need to create an USB stick which can boot DOS.
Moderator BAKED Posted January 3, 2013 Moderator Share Posted January 3, 2013 Like svl7 said, and it's never a good idea to run a bios update thru windows because there's so much that could go wrong. Format a usb drive with fat32 and put like freeDOS on it.
svl7
Flashing from within windows isn't that bad actually, but it depends on the flash tool. In this case it's much more simple - the flash tool just doesn't support Windows, it's a DOS application, as I already stated above. And it won't work on FreeDOS either. eastbayrae
I was able to get it done by making a Win98 boot stick. Now I am just waiting on my 7970m to come in so I can drop that in.
