Founder Brian Posted March 22, 2011 Founder Share Posted March 22, 2011 Doesn't seem very exciting, a standard evolution. GPU choice will be interesting to see, I'd like them to offer the AMD 6000 series.
Ashtefere
If it has a thunderbolt port, it opens the possibility of an external GPU.That can send data back to the laptop display. Very quite much do want.-Ash
unreal25
Then what's the difference between that and do-it-yourself Vi Dock mods, since you'll be locked to the AC plug if you want to game? (Except the external monitor.)
Ashtefere
Benefits over vidock:1: Cable - You only need one cable for 4x pcie lanes (or 2x pcie2.0) 2: You can send display output directly back to the internal display3: Going to be locked to the AC plug either way, and I dont game on battery4: Will put more interest in the ViDock thing, causing more OEMS to perhaps hopefully build a thunderbolt vidock or similar.More performance, less wires, more options - its win win win!-Ash
unreal25
Well sounds somewhat better than ViDock I guess - tho I'd definitely appreciate even a little bigger screen. But AW should pull out something really spectacular (I'm thinking along the lines of 8th wonder of the world) for me to even consider that machine again. I'd rather choke in cables but play on something like Thinkpad X220+ViDock if I wanted to go that route.

unreal25
Ah well I am joking a little. I think Dell's support website got screwed a little at some point... so my old R1 is showing as R3! I don't think it's a typo though, because it used to say "R1".

Founder Brian Posted April 16, 2011 Founder Share Posted April 16, 2011 Nope that's the old M11x.
unreal25
Yes, but it's not the oldest one. The first one (release 1) had Intel dual-core CPUs, the release 2 had first-gen core-i CPUs, the third release should be based on second-gen core-i CPUs (Sandy Bridge).

unreal25
Whoa, these prices are way too high! Especially given their previous hinge fiasco and other multiple problems the laptop had.

unreal25
The Hardware Heaven link works now, but the review is pretty much identical in form to M18x one. It would be nice to put M11x-R1 and R2 results side by side and maybe compare it with other laptops in it's class. Battery performance seems really poor for a Sandy Bridge system - its actually less than R1 (on R1 I could push 5.5 hours watching HD movies - that's A LOT more than 3:20 in their test). Keep in mind the m11x has a 9-cell battery and can work on IGP, so 4 hours is really low. I mea...n M17x-R3 can do better? mw86
That's quite a shame smaller more portable is supposed to mean better batterylife.
