  1. In theory it should work. In practice its harder than you think. The battery has an internal circuit for controls and tests. If that's missing the EC recognises a no battery condition and throttles back the 4940MX and 980m once >180W are reached. Ok let's wire the second adapter on the battery's control board bypassing completely the cells. Each cell is wired separately for voltage controls so if a failing cell is detected its disconected from the rest of the system. If all the other cells are disconnected then Windows reports a 0% capacity battery, NOS fails to load. So back to the throttling condition. MSI engineers do use an unlocked EC internally for testing purpouses (max system power consumption) but there are no plans on releasing it afaik.

    Heatsink 880M

Hi mate. I'm afraid those heatsinks are a bit different. I know because I own a gt60 with a 780m. I plan on upgrading to a 980m in the near future. I'll see if I can grab a 900m msi heatsink. In that case I can give you mine. I am from Italy too by the way
  3. In theory it should work. Your motherboard model supports 100w GPUs so a 780m would be a fit. I'm not sure however. Maybe Prema or svl7 can help here
  4. Hi fatant, Very good job on getting the 770m to work in a GT780DX Unfortunately the forum you posted is in chinese. I tried google translate and could make up that this card works on 1761 and not 16f3 and 1762. Care to post a guide? Thanks! A friend of mine is very interested.. felix
  5. 7970m works on both 16F1 (gx660/gt680) and 16F2/1761 (GT683/GT780DX) motherboards. Tested by me on gx660 and gt780dx msi's. The gx660 accepts a 570m too. I tried changing cards once just for curiosity. For 16F1 models the highest you can go is 7970m performance wise. A 675m does work too but keep an eye on temps also some vbioses enable hdmi but create problems with drivers (crashes/bsod) and others disable hdmi and work pretty stable. You'll have to sacrifice something.. For 16F2/1761 the 675m issues remain valid. Regarding the 7970m, it works great. However, in-game, turbofan must be used as the EC doesn't read the gpu temp. The fan spins up only if the cpu gets stressed. Kepler based cards need support from bios which older models don't provide. As majster said, you will have to disable optimus on the vbios and upgrade the Intel MEI firmware on the bios itself (it's not so easy). Reverse engineering the bios and integrating the code from scratch..too much work. Debbuging comes next too..not worth the time in my opinion. If performance is needed stick to a 7970m and you'll be fine for a while save the money for a new system with haswell and maxwell!!
  6. Hi mate, My card is a Clevo 7970m with vbios version 015.019 I hope it works into yours. Here you go: https://mega.co.nz/#!yccBmZIB!b3p_TRkZEhyIyyiwZkdafj4LiWd4DOGasPWqjGZR22g Let me know. felix Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  7. Hi melvin66 Welcome to the forums You need a compatible vbios for the 7970m (prior to version 015.021) and a 7970m heatsink. felix Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  8. Chip installed Everything back to normal Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  9. Chip arrived Thank you svl7 Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  10. svl7 I'm linking a previous post on NBR with a GPU-Z screenshot and vbios rom http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/584869-official-msi-gt780-gt783-owners-lounge-425.html#post9155443 I'll PM you the shipping address so to speed up things Is paypal ok? Or do you prefer a Wire Transfer? Let me know. Cheers felix
  11. Hey svl7 I can't send a PM yet. I'm still a newbee here Anyway ok for the chip. Send me a PM with the details for the payment and also the email so I can tell you the shipping address. Does it have the Clevo vbios or a Dell vbios? My notebook is a MSI GT780DX just to reconfirm Cheers felix Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  12. Thanks svl7 The only options of flashing would be send it to France to a friend of mine (whom I bought the card) and have it flashed with his m18x or send you the card. It would cost me ~32€ approx. Would sending a bios chip be cheaper? If yes let me know. felix Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  13. Hey everyone, I'm new here. Coming from NBR forums. I installed a Clevo 7970m to my GT780DX. It was working fine untill I decided to flash it with a Clevo 7970m from a Sager p9370 this morning.. never should have done that.. I now get only a black screen. Fan starts-up but the screen is black. I tried even blind-flashing but nope. It doesn't flash. No log output from atiflash either. What do you suggest? I'm good at soldering skills. @svl7 will resoldering a new bios chip work out? I'm stuck. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated Best Regards felix PS: I'm trying to reply but I can't seem to. I'll write it here: ok for the bios chip. How much would it cost to send it to Italy? The other option is sending it to you or a friend of mine in France (whom I bought the card). That goes for approx 32€ Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
  14. Forgot to tell my previous vbios was the 015.019 this new one is the 015.021 As it seems it's not compatible with my notebook. Also a quick question, can I force flash it somehow? Can I wipe the vbios chip so I can reflash again the old one? Thanks again Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
