No. You need create backup of your native bios, from your laptop. Not from MSI website.
I've used Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit v2.0 but its says
after the warning the read button is disabled unless I checked Custom then set a size
Is it safe to backup the bios just by checking Custom and setting the size to 8mb (same size of bios, I downloaded from msi)?
If yes here it is after pressing Read then Backup
If this is wrong is there a guide on how to backup the bios of msi ge60 2pe apche pro?
-
Post here file backup of your main system bios.
How can I backup my system bios or is this the one below?
This is the file I downloaded from MSI

Hi raven_ninety,
I think you will need only flash "custom-modded-undervolted" GTX860M VideoBIOS, not System BIOS to undervolt your GFX card
Where can I get a custom vbios?
-
Is there a modded bios for MSI GE60 2PE so that I can undervolt the GTX860M?

Any ideas on how to set the fan speed to 100%? Fan settings in the bios doesn't work for me.
-
How are you powering the fan? Do you have it plugged into and running out of your tower which is under the desk? I would very much like to do this myself and am willing to buy another case fan just for this purpose but I'm afraid it would be impractical except when I'm at home, and even then it would need accommodating since my desktop is in another room.
Yeah 3000 RPM would be pretty noisy. Do you have to run it at its maximum speed to get the full benefit?
I bought an AC-DC 12v 500ma adapter for the fan, and if the 3000rpm fan is run less than the max speed, it will produce even more annoying noise I'm planning on buying a smaller fan for this to see if there's a big difference in temperature.
I have also tried placing the fan under the laptop, not much difference in temps..
-
The fan blows in the same direction that the exhaust does I take it?
Yes same direction, it's quite effective, only problem is the noise. I think the unit's fan is not enough to take away the heat from the heatsink..adding an exhaust fan helps a lot. The heatsink is cool to touch now

@octiceps - Do you think it's possible to disable the GPU0 and just use GPU1(ultrabay) as the main gpu? I think this will lower the CPU temps/
-
Is there a way to set the fan to always run at 100%? I've tried speedfan but it can't even detect the y400's fan.
-
@octicep - That's why I'm thinking of putting some ramsinks on top of the heatpipes, do you think it will lower the temps on the cpu? my cpu temps reaches 100c in less the 30s running prime95 then throttles down to 1.2ghz.
btw I have the Y400 model.

Is there a bios setting that will set the fan speed to 100% all the time, can't find the setting on the modded 2.02 bios?
-
I have succesfully flashed my ideapad y400 v1.02 bios to modded v2.02. Thanks guys!
---
just tried increasing the refresh rate to 120hz in nvidia control panel and it works! my desktop is much more smoother now.
-
Only flash a mod of the same version as you're using. If you want to go 2.02 then use the leaked stock update linked above, and once you done this flash the mod according to the instructions. Whatever you do, don't flash a mod of a different version than the one on your system.
Read the instructions and your Win8 cert and activation will be fine.
So it is not safe to update to modded v1.03 bios from a v1.02 bios. I've PM you my Y400 BIOS 6BCN30WW(v1.02,
but can I disable hyperthreading once a flashed to a modded bios? Does it lower the temps?
-
@svl7 - here is my Y400 bios v1.02, the product name and serial number are invalid in my y400.
Do you think it is safe to use the modified v1.03 bios on my y400?
-
Use the tool in the first post and run the backup.bat as admin.
Thanks! Ok will do, I just need one final post before I can downlaod anything..
-
I don't have SLI, and how can I save a copy of my bios?@raven_ninety, do you have SLI?Also, could you send me a copy of your v1.02 bios?
-
I have a Y400 with BIOS 6BCN30WW(V1.02), is it safe to update it to unlocked bios?
-
I have replaced the thermal compound on my y400 with gelid gc extreme, same temps as stock
-
Can I lower the temps by disabling hyper threading?
