It was fixed w/ 326.01 win 8.1, no blank screen with this version either...there's no VBIOS update from alienware, probably nvidia decided to fix it through drives due to win 8.1 preview release.

M17x R2 + GTX780M - safemode boot OK, Normall boot NOT
J95 replied to flingin's topic in Alienware M17x / AW 17
Try to flash svl7's VBIOS, download Download NVFlash 5.128.0.1 | techPowerUp then go here http://forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/2166-%5Bguide%5D-nvidia-vbios-flashing.html Rename the .rom file to '780M' (8 characters limit). Backup: nvflash -b backup.rom VBIOS flash: nvflash -6 780M.rom Type twice 'y' to override PCI mismatches. -
Supported card still better disable driver signing, safe mode option only when pressing F8 like win Win 7; useful for testing.
-
Probably driver signing was disabled cmd admin type "bcdedit /enum" look for windows boot loader results, better to leave F8 safe boot option enabled.
-
For drivers, extract using 7-Zip (v9.25 x64) NVIDIA DRIVERS 326.41BETA Intrnational folder>delete GFExperience / MS.NET folders>copy/paste NVWMI folder from MSI 311.70 driver / International folder. Extracted driver>Display.Driver folder> copy/overwrite NVMIn.inf>International folder run setup.exe Disable driver signing and enable F8 safe boot option. Command prompt(admin) then reboot. bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON Exit safe mode / normal boot bcdedit /deletevalue loadoptions bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard NVMIn.inf_PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_05AA1462_v326.41.zip

326.01 Windows 8.1 preview WDDM 1.3, it breaks Nividia Inspector. 320.49 introduces many fixes so it's better to use the right one (updated .inf post #2287); disable driver signing>reboot>then installed ?
-
Windows 8 disable driver signing. 1) Open command prompt (Admin). 2) Type "bcdedit /set {current} testsigning yes" (without quotes) enter>reboot. 3) Install>reboot 4) Exit test mode "bcdedit /set {current} testsigning no" reboot. Download/Install NVIDIA DRIVERS 320.49WHQL >Instalation failed>close dialog>Browse C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\320.49\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver folder>Copy/overwrite w/ nvcvn.inf>Run setup.exe \International\ folder. Edit: @CACV @Killerinstinct Install v320.49 drivers. Don't install v326.01 it breaks NV Inspector. nvcvn.inf_MSI_GT702OD_GTX780M_v320.49.zip

Open device manager>Display adapters>Details>Hardware Ids PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_.119F. ? 1462

It seems good, then it's probably VBIOS related as you've tried everything else http://forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/1847-nvidia-kepler-vbios-mods-overclocking-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks-227.html

It shows both GPUs being tested, disable IGP then run test; always thinking 120Hz.

Power on>F12>Select System Check>Report back.
