    Anyways, I gave up trying to install W7 in UEFI. It's not possible on this laptop, probly a mobo or some other hardware limitation.

  3. I had to enable UEFI Boot and Launch CSM in order to install W7 in UEFI. Now the custom POST screen with the phoenix logo is gone, replaced by a blank screen, although F2 and F7 still work fine. Is this normal? Running Prema Mod v2 on a P650SG.

    svl7 never modded the .3A vBIOS, but someone else did (can't remember who, @Klem maybe?) because I've got one here, which I've attached. However, it only unlocks the core clock limit, not voltage control. If you want to overvolt the Ultrabay, maybe you could kindly ask Klem to mod in voltage control for a small donation or something? Otherwise you could use W7/8 with the original .33 mod (which is fully unlocked) located at the bottom of the sticky.

  5. Looks like you have the correct 80.07.27.00.3A Ultrabay vBIOS for Windows 8.1/10, but it is not unlocked. So you need to unlock it to OC core past +135 MHz. Or go back to Windows 7/8 and use the existing Ultrabay vBIOS mod based on 80.07.27.00.33:

    Not really, it really doesn't use that much power compared to other gaming notebooks. It's just Lenovo gimping it. I could OC my GPUs much higher if there was no power limitation because temps are fine.

     

    I increased CPU TDP because 45W is too low to maintain full Turbo Boost (3.2 GHz for the 3630QM) in Prime95 8 threads. It would drop down to ~3GHz after a little bit to stay under 45W. It actually doesn't get that hot. Ivy Bridge runs cooler than Haswell, but to be fair Haswell has FIVR and can consume a lot more power due to AVX2. And I also repasted with CLU and cut the chassis to increase air intake. This is after 45 min Prime95 small/large FFTs 8 threads:

    About the same temps while gaming. I can only make CPU break 90C if I simultaneously load GPUs and back Prime95 down to 4 threads (since 8 threads would bottleneck GPU hence reduce GPU usage and heat).

    Could be. I've noticed from overclocking my own Y500 (i7-3630QM, 650M SLI) that it starts draining battery when power draw at the wall reaches 155W-165W, depending on the efficiency of the PSU used. I've already tried the stock Lenovo 170W, Clevo 180W, and Dell 240W bricks--same behavior on each. So assuming 85-90% PSU efficiency, it seems the Y500 (and assuming Y510p as well since I've heard of similar behavior from @kh90123) is limited to pulling ~140W. So there's no point in getting something with more wattage than the Lenovo 170W brick as the laptop will be limited elsewhere to far below that.

     

    BTW I was running my 650M SLI @ 1150/1125 and 1.05V, CPU was stock speed 3.2x4 (3630QM is locked) but with TDP increased to 56W in ThrottleStop, although even in Prime95x8 threads it only reaches 47W which is barely more than the stock 45W. I observed the battery drain in TSBench/Prime95+Heaven/Valley and even in CPU&GPU intensive games like Battlefield series, particularly since my screen has also been OCed to 120Hz so the increased frame rate increases CPU usage. Although the battery drain is very slow, Prime95+Heaven overnight for 8 hours only consumed 50%.

  8. Sorry if this question was already ask, but there's just too much to read it all in this topic. Will the modified bios from the first post be working on system different than windows 8? I ordered myself lenovo Y500 with Win 8 pre installed, but i will most likely update it to Win 10 as soon as i get it. If it won't be compatible with Win 10, then is there a version i could use somewhere on the internet?

    The BIOS is independent from the OS, but I would perform the mod on W8 first before upgrading to W10, just in case any of the tools used in the procedure are incompatible with the new OS.

  9. If any, it'll be the Atmel (AT88SC0808C, "U1"). For one it's the standard location and second is elimination; the other two SOICs are clock and ... something else (forgot). The weird thing is that it's the 8kb version, so 1kbyte, whereas Dell version vbios needs 64kB ... the spec-sheet is ominous; Atmel CryptoMemory, 8-Kbit :sorrow: .

    So ... wouldn't have guessed they did this with MXM, but seems you're right; no vbios on board. Of course, it could be in a non-soic8 eeprom, but that'd be highly unusual and still begs the 'why?' for the secure eeprom (nefarious purposes, of course).

    Might try bios extraction tool or RWEverything and pull from memory.

    Hmmm ... if assumption is correct, that also means it wouldn't run on any other system. Test?

    Dang that sucks. I don't have any other system to test the card in. No idea how to do the BIOS extraction tool/RWE thing. I'm only trying to get the vBIOS so I can undervolt it with NiBiTor. These GPUs run HOT.

    I'm having trouble dumping the vBIOS from an HP 8710w laptop. The GPU is a Quadro FX 1600M:

    When I try to save the file in GPU-Z, I get BIOS reading not supported on this device.

    When I try to make a vBIOS backup in NVFlash (both DOS and Windows), I get ERROR: Supported EEPROM not found:

    Any ideas?

    I'm not knowledgeable enough about this, but can anyone identify the EEPROM chip? I'm wondering if this board doesn't have one and stores vBIOS with system BIOS like laptops with soldered GPUs, that's why GPU-Z and NVFlash are throwing errors whenever they try to access the EEPROM.

  11. I have a y500. Personally instead of getting a y510 I would recommend using the extra money leftover from y500 to get a 250gb ssd and a better wireless card(you need to flash bios for wirelss card). That would probably have a more tangible performance boost then just getting the y510. This is a important note to pay attention to. My y500 has sli 650ms 1gb vram. The 1gb vram is a major bottleneck in new triple A games. If you can get a laptop with 2gb or more of vram I would highly recommend it. A good choice would be a clevo/sager laptop which can be found here. rjtech.com

    The 650M has 2GB VRAM
