  1. They will learn the cold hard truth when it's in someones hands. In dx11 it may match 5870 xfire in games like metro but dx10 (majority of games) it's going to lose.
  2. lol @ post, the photos were a nice touch. Alienware made me a fan with the R2 but they disappointed me with the R3. If the M18x is released and lives up to the R2's legacy, then I'll gladly proclaim myself as an AW fanboy again.
  3. Pretty decent vantage GPU and I like the SB CPU score. Are you going to upgrade to the 6970M?
  4. I'm finally going to repaste tonight and tweak my retention mod. Then I'll install the 11.2 + CAP and run some benchmarks though I doubt I'll ever get my GPU clocks as high as stam since he's got some golden shower samples.
  5. Especially if you have to work for big HUNGRY computers.
  6. I wonder when California might break off and tip over? I should move soon. Fuck who knows, if the moon goes off tilt one day, the entire earth might tip over and fall into the sun.
  7. It will always scale all 4 and won't apply to a single core alone.
  8. Finally some news regarding this game has surfaced. I've posted a few videos on the front page so in case you missed them, you can find the posts here: EA shows off first footage of Battlefield 3 | Tech|Inferno Leaked Battlefield 3 Video From GDC | Tech|Inferno The game is shaping up to be one hell of a sequel and hopefully the long wait will have been worth it! Of course I'll be buying the game the day its released (hopefully on steam).
  9. So I started a watercooling project back in 2006-2007 and my goal was to build a system that looked great, was near silent and did a great job with cooling. After researching all the available blocks, reservoirs, radiators, tubes etc I decided to build a lian li based water cooling system with custom imported parts from aquacomputers that included the reservoir and fan grill. I also used danger den blocks (maze I believe) for the GPU/CPU and a bix2 radiator with dual 120mm fans. The setup worked amazingly well, it was quiet and the temperatures were always 30c and below with overvolting + overclocking. I no longer have this particular system (got lost when I moved to medical school) but it still brings back fond memories and I plan to build another one when ivy bridge is released. 10. Welcome to T|I sirhcz0r! Well an exodus from NBR would mean more freedom to post how they like for those that are fortunate to find the appropriate link so feel free to add techinferno.com to your signature over there I remember seeing a post on that Chinese website that leaked the original R3 photos by some supposed Dell rep that said the M18x was confirmed and that it was a dual card aluminum system. If that is the case, then Dell will have redeemed the AW brand in my eyes, especially if its coupled with a 330W PSU and a quality display. I don't think Dell will let down their core audience. As you said, the M17x-R3 is to satiate the appetites of those that want an alternative to Asus with better quality and options. Between the G73 and R3, the R3 wins everytime.
  11. Haha that seems like a typo more than anything else since it points to the M17x documentation. Though that does give us some hope and that's better than none. I just hope the M18x isn't an R3 with dual cards and it's truly a unique system in a class of its own.
  12. Contrary to what some may claim, a single 6970M is not in anyway as fast as 5870m crossfire. It's about 70-80% as fast in some circumstances but I'd say the average would be 70%. Which is still damn fast and a lot faster than a single 5870M. It may even equal a 5870M xfire setup in some DX11 heavy games but DX9/10 it will not unless there are crossfire compatibility issues. The R3 is pretty good for those that want a lighter, slimmer and almost as fast system. Too bad about AW going with rubber + WLED though. If they had built a magnesium and/or aluminum version with a higher gamut/brightness screen, I'd have bought one.
  13. Glad you guys like it here. We're going to continue to add features and possibly a new look for the forum (unless everyone likes this one). We'll do a vote later on between some proposed looks for the forum and let you guys pick which you want.
  14. haha that is a strange thing to say. I use 5150 Joker regularly and my use of that nick goes all the way back to a service called Prodigy. This predated even AOL when it was called Compuserve. There's a combination of reasons I picked 5150, one is that when went snowboarding with a few friends, the board was a 5150 and I thought it looked "cool" at the time (I was around 14). Secondly, 5150 is a police code for insane so insane + joker seemed like the thing to do at that age and it just stuck. Later on I found out 5150 Joker is some van halen song although I'm not really into metal. Although my newest nick is "Dirty Scrubz" and that's because I'm a medical student and well our scrubz got dirty quite regularly. Now that I'm in my early 30s, I've decided to drop the nick names and just start using my real one.
  15. Well technically I won't be jumping ship since I'll still have one R2 left.
  16. It's really amazing how they felt no compulsion to solve this issue. Most of the Dell employees I spoke to (save for the AW costa rica rep who tried his best) were apathetic and in a hurry to get me off the phone. Then when I'd explain something to the morons, it would go in one ear out the other and they'd repeat the same question--pretty frustrating and at one point I had to raise my voice to get their attention.
  17. Then it's definitely a device made for women. They ride on a dildo with wheels and at the same time can use it to crush a man's balls.
  18. Mark, Both work equally well IMO. When benchmarking, I prefer flashing the cards with a custom vbios that has 1.15v and then using Rivatuner to overclock. When I'm using it for 24/7 use and mild gaming, I keep the vbios at the default 1.05v and use only Rivatuner for overclocking as needed. BTW, I received your e-mail and I'll be posting the files in the next day or two. I've been swamped with work lately so I haven't had a chance yet.
  19. So I received an e-mail from Dell for acknowledgment of parts shipped out for an XPS 1640 system in the amount of $498. Naturally I was distressed to see this, especially since it said the charge was billed to an Amex which I happen to have. To solve this little issue, I called Dell customer care and was on the phone with them for over an hour while having been transferred in the following order: customer care-->customer care-->dell tech support-->dell xps support-->dell customer care Essentially I completed a nice circle of Dell's service support to no avail. The reps kept asking me what my credit card number is (like I'll give them that) and at one point the xps support guy asked for my M17x-R2 service tag which I provided. He then wanted to associate this order issue with my Alienware service tag which I of course graciously declined. Finally I was transferred to another Dell customer care representative who assured me that I would not be charged since it was billed to someone else's Amex (why doesn't that make me feel assured?) and it likely was a human error since the person that placed the order shared the same surname as me. Then he asked me if I had received the parts AFTER I explained to him that they were shipped to an address I no longer resided at and had not for a year. At the end of the conversation, I was provided a reference number and told that they would wait on the original customer to call them back and then take care of the issue. So essentially, its still an unresolved problem because the genius's at Dell do not have the service tag of the phantom XPS 16 system they sent parts out for.
  20. Good to hear, if you need any help with CPU overclocking let us know. For me the AMD GPU tool never worked with the 5870M cards. Good to hear! Create a benchmarking thread and post some numbers if you like.
  21. Welcome to the forum TMI. Let me know if that config file helps DR650SE. Thread has been merged with the Misc Tutorials thread in the General Notebooks forum.
  22. I'll post my rivatuner.cfg file here. See if you that helps but if not, then you will need to try the rtp file again. RivaTuner.zip
  23. lol guess you shouldn't have setup the VMs. BTW try adding an avatar now, it should be fixed.
  24. Nothing official from Dell. Even that posterous guy has been quiet after he announced that Dell was coming after him. So either the M18x rumor is true or we're screwed and will have nothing else to look forward to. I'm at a point now where I'm almost certain to sell one of my M17x's so I can use the cash to grab an HP Envy 3D 17" with sandy bridge.
