Lenovo Y410p/Y510p BIOS mod to enable Nvidia eGPU support
HCao replied to High_Voltage's topic in Lenovo
Yeah, yours is version/2, same with mine. It has "version/2" on the board. Since you are using AMD card, why not use modified 2.07? FYI: To convert version/2 to version/3(ish) is pretty simple. Simply removing that 1k resistor will do the work. -
Lenovo Y410p/Y510p BIOS mod to enable Nvidia eGPU support

Quick update: I have a version/2 adapter. I removed that resistor and tested a GTX 1070 and a GTX 970, both successful. GTX 970 is pretty straight forward, install the card, boot into system, install the latest driver, disable GT 750M, bingo. GTX 1070 requires a little more effort as stated in this post before. My experience is to: 1. Remove all Nvidia drivers using DDU 2. Install the older driver (something like 36x.xx) 3. Install the latest driver but don't choose clean install. Hope it helps! And I want to say thanks to @High_Voltageand all the other guys to make this possible, great work! -
Lenovo Y410p/Y510p BIOS mod to enable Nvidia eGPU support

Thank you very much man! I'm reading through that long long post. I think mine is version2. So the only difference between version2 and version3 is that resistor from 1k->10k? And by removing the resistor or changing the resistor with higher value, the purpose is to cut that signal? -

Hi @High_Voltage, first thank you guys for the amazing work!!! I got an adapter long time ago from gerald, but as I see in this post, there exists different versions of adapter? Does this BIOS works with all versions? Much thanks! -
@TeslaI'm still confused about PCIe3.0. I'm using Y500 with GT750M, I7-3630QM,chipset HM76. I found that HM76 supports PCIe2.0 only(https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intelligent-systems/chief-river/core-hm76-ibd.html?wapkw=hm76) but my cpu supports PCIe3.0(http://ark.intel.com/products/71459/Intel-Core-i7-3630QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz) Then I checked my GT750m: If graphics go directly to cpu then why 750m works in PCIe2.0x8? (According to NVIDIA, GT750M does support PCIe3.0)

I'm wondering whether this adapter can be used on Y500?
