  1. I run an XFX RX 480 with the laptop CPU at stock. The adaptor will not add any extra heat to your laptop CPU if anything it will reduce it as the embedded graphics cards will no longer be running. You could also buy a cooling pad if you are really worried.
  2. @rusTORK Your ZOTAC GeForce GTX 660 won't work with the adapter at all. It has to be an AMD card. With Nvidia cards, you won't be able to boot into Windows 10. Also, make sure the modded bios you have are version 2.07 or earlier. Anything after 2.07 won't work. You can back flash if needed.
  3. Okay here is my video. If it helps anyone great.
  4. @dsigned , Yes, it is possible that Ubuntu would work, but I didn't play around with it a lot. With Windows 10, you just plug in the adapter and it works. I never got to install drivers because you can't get into Ubuntu with the adapter plugged in (it''s just a black screen). I didn't try hot-plugging the adapter though. Even if you did get my Ubuntu working, dual-boot would be impractical because you can't see the grub boot loader menu to select which operating system you would want. So it looks like the problem is deeper than just Ubuntu. Without being able to see the grub boot loader, dual-boot with any Linux distro is not feasible.
  5. Time Spy: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/14608542? Fire Strike: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/14609264? Sky Diver: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/14610180? Above are the benchmarks of the adapter with an RX 480 XFX XXX @ 1288mhz. The power supply I was using with the reference RX 480 was bad, so reference RX 480's very likely work with the adapter. I can confirm that the adapter doesn't work with Ubuntu or Windows 7 in dual boot. So, the adapter is definitely Windows 10 exclusive. (Ubuntu might work if you re-install it from a USB drive with the adapter connected. I haven't tested it.) Even if you could dual boot, you cannot see the boot menu to select which operating system. You also can't see your bios with the adapter connected. So make sure you have all the settings configured to your preferences before adding the adapter. @Tesla's instructions are excellent. I would like to note that uninstalling your nvidia drivers are optional. I am able to run many games with max settings now at 60 fps. Thank you for this amazing product Gerald.
  6. Once the RX 480 aftermarket cards are available, I'd be happy to post a benchmark. At the moment, they seem to be out of stock everywhere. It might be a while.
  7. AMD it is then. It looks like the ASUS STRIX RX 480 pulls almost 0 watts from the PCIE. http://videocardz.com/62392/asus-shows-off-radeon-rx-480-strix-and-rx-480-dual The 750M draws between 35-40 watts through the PCIE which is why my reference RX 480 didn't get enough power and just shut off. I don't know what the power draw from other AIB cards are yet. If they got the power draw down to 60 watts, it will probably still work. Be sure to check what the power draw from the PCIE is before you buy an AMD card. EDIT: @gerald Does the adapter's PCIE lane draw power from the laptop or power supply?
  8. You could always try svl7's whitelist on 1.05, but I doubt it will work. So, I guess someone needs to learn how to mod BIOS for nvidia cards.
  9. bios 1.07, 1.09, or 1.10 might also work if anyone finds those
  10. So I found the link to register on that site. http://u.it168.com/Register/ You can use 10-minute mail for the email address, but it looks like you need a phone number for the authentication code. Does anyone know of a 10-minute phone? lol
  11. So now we need to find someone who can read Chinese.
  12. @Andrew54, you could try looking for bios v1.05 again. It will probably work, but v1.05 might be impossible to find. Edit: Make sure you backup your bios if you do find it.
  13. @Tesla Can you test your Legacy cards with a Legacy installation of Windows 10 instead of UEFI since they are old cards like you mentioned? Edit: Or maybe you already did that when you tried legacy Windows 10 on an external hard drive earlier.
  14. @STYXMHE @Tesla I also tried hotplugging and pre-installing the drivers with Windows 7 back before I knew Windows 10 was the solution. It didn't work me either.
  15. I don't have access to a nvidia gpu as I have always bought AMD for its superior price/performance around the $100-300 price range (the y510p is my one exception). Maybe @gerald has a nvidia gpu that he would be willing to test.
  16. So you won't ever see the Lenovo logo on either display (meaning you can never change your BIOS without unplugging the eGPU). 1. Both displays will be black for a few minutes. 2. You will hear the Windows 10 startup sound but the displays will still be black. 3. After 5 - 10 mins the internal display will show your desktop on Windows 10 but the external display will still be black. 4. You can now download the software to auto-detect drivers from AMD's website. So run it and install drivers. 5. After installing drivers both displays should display your desktop but only the 750m will work in games. 6. Go to device manager and disable the 750m. 7. Your internal display will go black but the external display will now be using your eGPU. 8. Whenever you reboot your 750m will automatically be disabled if your eGPU is plugged in. *If you boot without the eGPU your 750m will automatically re-enable itself. **If you switch to a different AMD card all drivers for the old AMD card must be removed or you will never get to Step 3. This procedure has worked for both AMD 6670 and RX 480. I can see how the 750m drivers could conflict with additional eGPU nvidia cards as the 6670 drivers prevented the internal display from showing the desktop in step 3 when I switched to the RX 480. Even if you could fully remove the drivers for the 750m the presence of the card still being connected to the laptop could screw it up. So it is likely this only works for non-nvidia cards.
  17. Okay, so without any GPU in it you can hear windows 10 boot sound correct? If you let it sit like that for 5-10 min after the sound does the laptop display come up? As that is how it worked for me with the video card and i'm wondering if it would do the same without the GPU. Here are the scenarios that have worked for me: OS: Windows 10 Boot: Legacy BIOS: 2.07 EC: 2.07 GPU: RX 480 OS: Windows 10 Boot: Legacy BIOS: 2.07 EC: 2.07 GPU: 6670 OS: Windows 10 Boot: Legacy BIOS: 2.04 EC: 3.05 GPU: RX 480 OS: Windows 10 Boot: Legacy BIOS: 2.04 EC: 3.05 GPU: 6670 OS: Windows 10 Boot: Legacy BIOS: 2.04 EC: 2.07 GPU: RX 480 OS: Windows 10 Boot: Legacy BIOS: 2.04 EC: 2.07 GPU: 6670 It looks like EC doesn't matter but BIOS must be 2.07 or earlier. I would highly recommend that you make your BIOS and EC match to avoid any issues. If you don't have any luck with Windows 10 you might try Ubuntu. I haven't tried it myself yet but I know Windows 7 won't work for sure as I have tested it extensively. You could always try to install the drivers for your egpu onto Windows 10 first and then boot with the adapter. @gerald, thank you for this great product. I have been watching for an ultra-bay adapter for years.
  18. It is in your BIOS under the BOOT tab. Boot Mode as legacy
  19. Maybe, I have Legacy and so does Gerald. Do you no longer get the startup sound with the GPU installed? I got the sound and had to let it sit for about 5 min then the laptop screen comes up and you can install drivers.
  20. MAJOR CHANGE to setup: Just Run the 2.07 EXE MAKE SURE ALL USB AND ETHERNET CABLES ARE UNPLUGGED MAKE SURE BACKFLASHING IS ENABLED IN THE BIOS MUST HAVE WINDOWS 10 https://mega.nz/#!M04jhbqA!jrAhvWiEwSrtx6TlJ4HiZNOUXLi62mh0t1ZZsI-Q5A8' Extra: Also make sure to uninstall drivers for video cards as you switch them them out. Not the 750m drives but I went from a 6670 to the RX 480 and needed to wipe them. Gerald you can remove your uploaded bios as I was just trying 2.07 with Windows 7 which does not work. I just now tried 2.07 with Windows 10 and it works with the setup for 2.07 being much easier.
  21. Sapphire RX480 Nitro is what i will probably be picking up as it has an 8 pin connector. AMD said they are releasing a fix for the power issue on the 5th, but I think i'd still rather have the non-reference version.
  22. Update on the RX 480 DONT BUY THE REFERENCE MODEL AS IT WONT WORK FOR THIS ADAPTOR. It works in the adapter and everything until the card goes under load and dies because it cannot get enough power through the PCI-E slot (you can google for more info on this issue). I'm going to be returning my reference card and wait for an aftermarket version with two 6 pins or one 8 pin so the power draw through the PCI-E is less. @STYXMHE I guess wait a week until you get promoted to a user and can download those files or look through the posts and see if there is an alternate download. I should have a tutorial put together by then.
  23. I will be working on a tutorial after I get my RX 480 working if you want to wait. You should be basically doing this tutorial, but with Gerald's files.
  24. It works!!!!! I am using Windows 10 with BIOS 2.04 and EC 3.05 with a 6670. Windows 7 with BIOS 2.04 and EC 3.05 does not work. I believe BIOS 2.07 failed because I was testing it on Windows 7. I don't have time now, but tomorrow I will test Windows 10 with BIOS 2.07 and EC 3.05 with the 6670. I will test with the RX 480 with BIOS 2.04 or 2.07 depending upon results of the 6670. It is time for me to switch to Windows 10 anyway.
