  1. Well with r9 fury and some newer games I just might I also plan to get 2133mhz ddr3 but I'm not sure that they will be able to work at full speed with standard bios - will see. As to legacy mode most of SATA M.2 ssd use it as default if I recall correctly and some older ones can't be switched to AHCi (i think )
  2. Heh i still haven't got to replacing my mobo - i plan to take care of it tomorrow - but I wanted to ask about m.2 ssd - what type of interface y510p use? Legacy SATA, AHCI, NVMe?
  3. No hurry - I'm going to bring my piece of junk to Him on Friday at best, there's a chance hell be able to reanimate my old mobo too. Ill look for those schematics on the net anyway :). Sleep well
  4. I'm going to post some comparing pictures when I dismantle laptop for mobo testing (probably tomorrow) - I'm referring to the empty spaces in cpu powersection that is covered by the stripe of tinfoil lined plastic sheet right beside a cpu socket - btw no wonder its badly cooled with something like that on top and no appendix from heatplate for mosfets. To be honest I don't intend to solder missing elements myself - thankfully I have good electronic repairman 100 meters from my flat - btw would you be so kind and provide me with your y510p schematics ? He might need them.
  5. Well I've just collected new mainboard and now I know why other users could have problems with cpu power sections - my old one is earlier model with GTX 750 and it have 3 phases for cpu power supply - 3 coils with 2 mosfets each- new one is downsized, 2 phases with empty spaces for third phase - niceeee, wayyy to go Lenovo. I'm going to check it as it is and if it works I'm going to "correct" that "small omission".
  6. I've totally bricked my laptop while trying so I had to wait for a new mobo i wasn't able to find any option that would alleviate tdp limit but I still have to try powercut option from Throttlestop. I think that the 57w power limit is maintained by EC not bios and as such really hard to "crack" - MSI crowd wasn't able to work around it for years and they do have few very skilled bios and firmware modders.
  7. Gerald from what I've been able to see 3.05 don't work with Your adapter as Leonov blocked also Radeon cards in it - the same applies to unlocked 3.05 so to connect your eGPU you need 2.07 or erlier bios - for those who look for it its in in Y510p-Y410p_v207_[stock].zip as self installing archive. If you cant download it send me a PM.
  8. If I'm not mistaking this concerns Clevo laptops and normal cpus and it wont work on y510p - in Prema bios for Clevo there is no TDP limit so only limiting factor with normal cpus is their multiplayer and temperatures. Unfortunately in y510p there is a limit on total power drawn by CPU and as I'm using unlocked one there is, by default, no limit on multiplier.
  9. I know but I was hoping he might have missed IOUT SLOPE option in the bios that allows to falsify TDP in MSI GT - here is a link to polish laptop forum where they discovered it can be used to workaround TDP limit http://www.nhl.pl/index.php?showtopic=95475&st=0 - unfortunately there is no such option in y510p bios and I wasn't able to find any analogue for it although I did manage to brick it Ill try blind flash procedure later on - with tweaked settings I was able to set 39+ multiplier but it wasn't stable . Of cours 3800/3900mhz is still much better than 4700mq and probably better than what I could get out of 4900mq - by the way do you know if someone tested 4900mq on y510p and if so what results he got ?
  10. I did, belive me I tried all I could think of including setting permanent administrative privileges - and didn't get squat with it, no output file. But unlocked bios from TheReciver worked, unfortunately... overclocking of 4930mx still don't work, at least preliminary results aren't encouraging. All the proper controls for TDP exist in unlocked bios but they don't have any impact on CPU behaviour - it looks like TDP is either hardware locked to CPU basic states or EC controlled. Ill play with them some more but I don't have much hope as it looks similar to MSI GT gen2 and 3 and there is no TDP offset option. Probably best CPU for y510p will be 4900mq - its a shame really because with eGPU adapter and 4930/40xm you could make mighty fine gaming rig with it.
  11. No worries fortunately you can unbrick y510p bios so i hope everything will be ok - I'm more worried about possible incompatibility between your backup and my laptop but will see And thanks a bunch for the files, sorry for being irritated prick but Lenovo laptops and windows from 8 up makes my skin crawl sometimes. Still y510p is wayyy better than y50-70 and y700
  12. Lol I can understand that but I've explained my problem in normal post too - edits are just add-ons after some new tries I've done - I dint think about stating that I've upgraded to 3.05 bios because that was obvious for me - as I wrote in a PM its first thing on the list
  13. I have installed bios 3.05 around 2 hours ago I guess you still think I'm not very smart do you ?
  14. I'm going to get ballistic soon Biosfixer that unlocks bios don't work with stock bios file from Lenovo - you need a backup made with fptw64 but this program doesn't work for me so i don't have file to unlock. But as You have dismantle your laptop i guess you wont be able to provide me with unlocked file so I need to install windows 7 anyway.
  15. Its not a problem with flash i can flash bios easily - I cant get bios to unlock that's the problem. "0) - NOTE: This step is Only necessary if your system isn't already using BIOS v3.05 Update to the official v3.05 BIOS provided by Lenovo . (1) - Create a backup of your own BIOS (now v3.05) by using Fptw64 tool. Extract the files and run the included .bat file from an admin command prompt. . (2) - Download Lenovo_Y510p-Y410p_[v3.05]_modified.zip and put the files of folder [1] to the root of your prepared USB DOS stick. Let the BiosFixer prepare your BIOS for flashing by drag and dropping your backup file on it. Put the created "v305mod.bin" file to the root of your USB DOS drive as well. . (3) - Now you need to downgrade the firmware back to v2.07 (Y510p-Y410p_v207_[stock].zip) in order to flash the mod. . (4) - Boot from your USB DOS drive, when you see the command prompt type BIOS and hit enter. Wait until the BIOS is flashed (you can safely ignore warnings about non-existing regions). . (5) - Once the BIOS flash completed with no errors, type EC and hit enter. Wait until the EC is flashed. Then reboot. . (6) - Go to the BIOS setup menu, load the default settings, apply and reboot. Done. In case you're using an ultra bay GPU follow the instructions in post #2 and flash the vbios.." I cant make a backup so I don't have a file to use biosfixer on
  16. From what I know even after tweaking and disabling telemetry win 10 still likes to call big daddy (Microsoft) without permission and I really don't like that (not to mention constant updates which can f**up whole system) so I prefer to stay away from it until they stop playing with it.
  17. I don't like Windows 8 and really don't like windows 10 but currently it seems that egpu adapter don't work with windows 7 - I'm gonna check it later myself thou.
  18. That would explain it then a pity nobody mentioned it in original thread Noop still no luck biosfixer don't do anything with original bios file so it looks like I need a backup I cant get because fptw64 doesn't work under win8 - so would you kindly upload your unlocked bios file? Or do I have to install windows 7 ?
  19. Actually I tried to use fixer on the stock 3.05 already but it doesn't work. I don't know if this is because I use win 8.1 or because it needs other file format - ill try on the second pc.
  20. Sorry but I downloaded the whole pack and there was only bios 2.07 in self extracting archive - in "Lenovo_Y510p-Y410p_[v3.05]_modified.zip" there is only bios fixer which needs backup of your own bios, and flashing program+ ec drivers.
  21. Could you give me a link ? The pack I downloaded didn't contain bios 3.05 at all.
  22. Is there unlocked 3.05 bios to download? From what I've seen you need to back it up from your laptop and then unlock it - that's what I can't do, so if you have already unlocked file it should work ok on my y510p after flash - or it will brick it but no risk no fun .
  23. And I'm getting more frustrated with this Lenovo every minute - I cant unlock 3.05 bios because fptw64 doesn't work for me - every time I try tu use it in any possible way I either don't get output file or get error 284 any idea how to get around that ? Could you link your unlocked bios file on some hosting site ?
  24. Lenovo in 3.05/3.08 have blocked both Nvidia and Radeon support and I don't think we can switch that off just by trial and error - lots of people tried to unlock Nvidia support in earlier versions and they failed which mean we ned some bios magician like SLv7 or Svet for that or fully unlocking v2.07 - the second one should be easier as there are templates in form of unlockers for 3.05, 1.1 and earlier ones - apparently Lenovo coded graphic whitelist really deep. I think Ill install 3.05 unlocked and check if there seems to be any options for removing cpu power limit, if so then paying for unlocked 2.07 would definitely have sense - but that will have to wait till tomorrow I'm after night shift and getting really sleepy right now ;).
  25. We could try to contact Slv7 ? Maybe someone on the Techinferno have His current email address? I for one would be ready to shell some cash for unlocking that bios and getting as much from 4930mx as the power section of this lap can take - I think it should be somewhere between 80 and 90w so at least 4.2 ghz but don't quote me on that it may as well end with nice smouldering hole in mainboard when cpu power section used to be - of course limit might be hardware or EC based and then we are limited to 4900mq but personally I doubt it. Even in MSI gt783 you could tweak unlocked bios enough to get around 90 seconds of full power from 2860qm and that's more than I need from 4930mx for gaming, although for professional use it can be insufficient. :Blabber I've guessed as much from your earlier sentence - it just took a bit to fully process as English is not my native language
