I've tried every possible solution out there for the past 2 years, including changing routers. So far the only thing that worked for me was to disable the 40Mhz mode and just use 20Mhz. Seems this wlan card is just a very very poor quality product. No way around that apart from replacing it. Shame...

Agreed with ninjo113. An SSD would be a much better investment. My y500 with the dual geforce 750m's and a 480GB SSD is flying. Yes, AAA games won't run well on maximum settings but hey if I can run Crysis 1,2 and 3 on max settings at native resolution without any overclocking that's good enough for my needs.
