Good question, bro. All I know is that I sure as hell don't want to find out the hard way (again) if they don't. Surprises suck... predictability is something I value, and I've never been much for gambling.

Only 100% guarantee from Clevo is good enough. I do not trust retailers. screwed one time is more than enough. I will use this BGA-KIller to next year probably. I don't want buy hardware now. Everything is too unreliable now. Not desktops or laptops.

All I can say at this point is...good luck with that.

Edit. Had to run out for a bit.

So I will explain this part everyone seems to be missing.

The part we need to change to be able to compete against desktop cpus in our class is the voltage. Without being able to go in the 1.525 and up range, the cpu is locked in place. No amount of bios editing is going to fix that. And when going to 5 ghz and higher, the voltage needed to make runs gets to staggering new heights. And at each voltage curve there becomes an  invisible temp wall.

I'll use this link as an example.

See how @Papusan is pretty much the top of all air benched cpu's? Or at least of the recorded ones.

    http://hwbot.org/benchmark/wprime_-_1024m/rankings?hardwareTypeId=processor_4012&start=-9&cores=4#rankBy=teams#start=20#interval=20

This result is excellent news for all mobile enthusiast because he is in fact at the top of all air benched 6700k's. Who cares if you can clock 5.3 ghz if you get beat by everyone running 4.8 ghz. If you look down that list you will see even one guy on [email protected] ghz in like 71st place. His run was not optimal...

By going by this as an example: 5 ghz needs more than 1.5V to be stable. Even if we unlock the current limit throttling, you still can't get past the most important part. The real core voltage. And that my friend is hard coded somewhere on the motherboard. And has been for quite some time in laptops i'm afraid. Along with the other stuff you can't see in the bios files or the changes being made that don't stick because...of the stuff you can't see in the unlocked bios file.

    :)

Yeah. This is just a wimpy wprime 32M bench. But it's fun to be among the other desktops with processor's at @5.0GHz and better cooling, but with the processor clocked 4.9GHz in a laptop

The point where it begins varies by model, but Clevo (as all other Notebook ODMs) throttle their systems once both CPU and GPU are used.

That's stock for you and not considered a 'bug' but a 'feature'.

Though Prema Mod versions don't come with this feature... ;)

You mean you will Cripple Clevo's feature?:hyper:

I saw it coming, but left it be...

    Predictable...

To be fair, then there's HP and Omen lol... so this is AW's last chance.

And Dell will still have near $3,320 for "Echo" with 6820Hk, 32GB ram, 512 ssd and the old 980m. Do they know new graphics is out?

Funny in that I'm discussing this with@deex right now....

MSI has an answer....so if AW doesn't answer to that, then bye bye AW....welcome to officially being the Apple of the PC gaming world.

Powered by: Octa Core Exynos + 6820HK

THEY ARE ALREADY officially the Apple of the PC gaming world a LONG TIME. Sorry, but Mr. Azor wanted it so bad that he jumped on the train early 2015!! Evga, Razer and Aw will compete against each other with single 1070.

Yeah. Will Dellienware came after with something similar or will they continue with their thin ECHO models?? They can probably use a single 1070.

    Hi,

My laptop was heating up a bit too much (temperature above 90’s in normal load, and sometimes shutting down after hitting 100C), so I finally decided to open up my Dell XPS 15 (L502X) and replace the thermal paste. I have few questions:

When I opened it up, apart from the thermal paste on the cpu (i7-2630QM) and gpu (Nvidia GT-540 2gb), there were several white pads, and one grey pad. The grey pad was above the motherboard HM67 chip. This is the first time I ever saw a heat sink with thermal pad needed to cool down the motherboard. Or am I missing something? And what are all these small white pads? They seem to be covering different chips on the motherboard. Does anyone know the width of these white pads, and grey pads? Are all of these thermal pads to conduct heat? Or some are meant to block heat? I think the white ones are meant to block heat, but I may be wrong.

Anyhow, after replacing the thermal paste (didn’t do anything with the pads, since I wasn’t expecting to see them anyway), the temperature of CPU and motherboard remains in 80’s C, and GPU in 70’s C under normal load (20 browser tabs, and some MS Office work alongside). So, although it is not in the dangerous zone (90s and above), it is still quite warm for not so intensive tasks. I have cleaned the heat sink, and fan etsc also. I also used good quality thermal paste (CoolerMaster Gel Maker Nano). And the the fan still works in an annoying manner with bursts of sounds, instead of constant sound. It is very annoying, and I rather have the fan working the whole time than these annoying bursts (fan on, fan off, fan on, fan off, and goes on like this constantly). Any solution to fix this?

I am also considering downgrading to I5-2540M (lower TDP, and dual core), but its not worth it if the fan is going to behave in similar manner. Please share your experience if you use any other CPU on this laptop. I don’t think the GPU is replaceable on this one?

Yes, IC Diamond is the name of it. Innovation Cooling is the name of the company. http://www.innovationcooling.com/

Maybe my good friend @Papusan can tell you where he has found it for the best price. He is also from Norway.

The "grey" one was soft and supple, but the white ones (5 or 6 in total) seemed like they are not thermal pads. They seems more like a cussion type to block heat.

Can you tell the complete name of IC DIAMOND. I will search it on Ebay.

Yes, I repasted everything, and cleaned out the fan, and heat sink radiator etc.

I've used this Danish website below. They have most of what you want in cooling. Even EK - TIM Indigo Xtreme, And the best paste ever for me <Liquid Ultra> + lot of other stuff you want. Norwegian computer web sites have almost nothing and is a dead place for Harcore power enthusiasts!! @Kerio GO FOR LIQUID ULTRA ON PROCESSOR. If you don't want, then go for ICD.

GPU isn't the big problem to cool. ICD, Grizzly Kryonaut and Gelid Extreme is good enough for Gpu!! And I don't look on the prices if there is something I really need...  You don't need apply new paste every day:86:

This man speaks the truth, Alienware became trash shortly after the release of Alienware 18 and I called it before it was even released and jumped ship a few years ago. They always find a way to cripple their systems, whether it's bios, hardware or a combination of both. Plus AW laptops are notoriously thick and heavy with ugly fat bezels and subpar displays, just say no. Get yourself an MSI or Clevo if you want a better performance notebook but unfortunately with the way the market is now, you can only count on Clevo if you want a socketed CPU.

Why bother with Alienware at this point? If they cripple it like they did the last 18-incher it will be a well-built chassis that houses an abject failure in terms of performance. If they release it as a overweight BGA turdbook it will be even worse than that. Alienware has shown us their true colors since the introduction of Haswell. Judging from their past behaviors that followed release of the M18xR2 I think it is safe to say that they are no longer committed to producing high quality enthusiast products that deliver superior performance or an experience that enthusiasts can find to be gratifying. Their only commitment is to sell and maximize profits using marketing hype and anything that turns out right seems to be accidental at this point. They haven't sold anything worth buying since the M18xR, so there's really nothing for us to look forward to.

Even with use of socket hardware that maybe work in a new AW18(Probably will Dell put in 3 Oc profiles as before and gimp further Overclocking, LOL). You're still locked in terms of firmware!!! Relying on a company like Dell... Is like believing in Santa Claus comes to your home through the chimney every Christmas!! Save your money for something else, until the contrary is proved!! Even then you should skip DELLINWARE for something else = The best from Clevo with @Prema firmvare. Or save your hard earned money. Fully unlocked Bios isn't DELL's policy. More like everything locked!!!

Great CPU you have there Brother @Papusan. Good job.

So far, this is the best I can manage. Not bad, but not as good as your result.

    fxCRhZe.jpg

It's not a big difference. There are some 6700K which manages max around 4.6 GHz. This even in a desktop. Then you can imagine how these chips work in a laptop. + 4.6/4.7 GHz in a laptop is basically approved is my opinion.

  10. New and improved Firestrike score - 14474P By BGA PUSSY-CRUSHING KILLER!!:hyper: Well over 14450P now. Soon maybe 14500P ?  I know that the physics score have more to give in this bench. Have had 15522 in physics in earlier Firestrike bench.

The BGA KILLER notebook would come on shared 7th place in the desktop section for Firestrike with (i7-6700K and single GTX 980). Not bad for a laptop:D
