1. @svl7, could you please share the unlocked A13 BIOS for the Alienware M17x R4 if you have it or please otherwise unlock it and share it with us? I would be really grateful if you could do so as there are plenty of people like me with A13 who would love to have full compatibility with Windows 8.1 which A11 doesn't have.. it would also make it less risky for us to flash an unlocked BIOS as we wouldn't have to downgrade etc. I'm quite sure we'lll all be happy to donate a beer or 2...

  2. I thought as much. I'm not really keen on svl7's 980m vbios, while it does disable the boost function which is good, I cant run it without "underclocking" to 1127Mhz or my computer freezes during vantage even if i bump the voltage.

Agreed 347.90 is a great driver for stock clocks or very mild overclocks. Overclock to much and the gpu usage goes out the window instead of sticking above 90% it'll drop as low as 65% despite holding the overclock as steady as a rock.

How is boost good? 1st thing I did once I got my 970M was to flash svl7's VBIOS to disable it... It messes up your clocks.. I run at full boost clocks now all the time during gaming and performance is much better.. Not to mention svl7's vBIOS lowers voltage to 0.95 and my card runs rock stable and cool..

  3. Somewhat on this topic.

I spoke with mysn.de from where I bought my XMG clevo based laptop with custom choice parts. I wanted to know the possibility to upgrade my CLEVO P370EM with nvidia 680m to 980m.

They told me they couldn't or didn't have supported upgrade options nor sold GPU's separate. But in chatting with them I found out that a modded vBIOS for CLEVO P370EM would work with the 980m even if its unsupported by both devs. So question is if anyone happen to have such a modded vBIOS out there?

You can use a 980M in a P370EM.. All you need to do is flash Prema's modded Bios and EC from his website... This has to be done with your 680Ms inserted... Then you can replace them with 980Ms, install driver and flash either Prema's or svl7 modded 980M vBIOS...

  4. Weird...lacking optimus entries.

    @Hackintoshihope, @jjbettcher AW17

Uninstall drivers DDU/Safe mode - >under options uncheck AMD Audio Bus (bug)< -> Clean and Shutdown -> disable driver signing before installing drivers <-

Use nvdmi.inf instead. Again, all other INFs must be stock.

    @TomJGX M17xR4 included.

    GeForce 347.88 WHQL

Yeah will try this tomorrow... Earlier when computer crashed, GPU drivers got disabled... Dude this one better work properly :D

  5. Win7/MBR are basically for flashing the cards and 3DMark11/stock (sound card disabled), the other BIOS settings + NV Inspector will remove throttling for Gaming but not extreme OCing.

Edit: Core throttling, at least flashing is not a problem anymore for 120Hz AWs...M18xR2?

@J95 how can you boot with Windows 7 and 980M? Does it work properly??? You haven't answered my question from earlier..

    Thanks,

    Tom

  6. I'll clarify some stuff, I was able to figure this out due to the blank screen bug LGD02C5/780M, I've tried many DLLs combinations and nvlddmkm.sys, until I finally narrowed it down to nvlddmkm.sys and NVAPI matching version, the latter was to ensure stability and didn't break the unlocked vBIOS/780M OCing options. I sure hope someone will be able to mod the kernel mode driver module or even better firmware solution...;) including nvflash UEFI supported version...;) latest working nvflash/UEFI is v5.163 GK104 P2053 SKU 002 supported...

@TomJGX let's share those benchmark results, previous and current drivers, stock & unlocked vbios...;)

Max OC with Core on 1438MHz and Memory at 1543MHz with 344.75: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3940XM,Alienware M17xR4

Max OC with Core on 1438MHz and Memory at 1553MHz with J95 modded 347.52: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3940XM,Alienware M17xR4

About a 200 increase in FS GPU score... Mostly due to the newer driver.. Also OC was more stable.. My PSU was tripping in FS GPU Test 2 so I probably need to get a new PSU :D

  7. Lol everyone is on Prema. "Make us a new BIOS mod, fix this, why is this not working, fix nVidia's block" Give him some time haha. Poor Prema.

Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

Well I'm not telling him to deliver it now... What I want to know is he doing something about it.. I don't mind waitng.. I just want to know if he's doing anything! :D

  8. That's correct, due to nvlddmkm.sys being version 346.87.

So clearly the problem is in this nvlddkm.sys file.... So for people focusing on finding what to fix, this is the file that needs to be compared.. Gonna try a bench and see if it's better with this driver compared to 344.91

  9. Yes, updated game profiles nvdrsdb.bin (nvdrsdb0.bin/nvdrsdb1.bin) and MFAA too.

This driver mod performs better than any other driver I've tested, just delete all the folders except the ones shown above, delete or uncheck Miracast before installing then disable it under device manager.

What if you don't delete any folders? I've kept everything but GeForce Experience doesn't work.. Honestly, that's a massive no no.. Does GeForce experience work when you delete them like you did for you?

Edit: I had to uninstall and reinstall it.. Works now :D

Edit2: @J95, in NVIDIA Control pannel and GeForce Experience, it shows that I have 346.87 installed.. Only the GPU-Z shows 347.52... Is this what you get too?

  10. I'm going to say this again for all those who can't read my thread or haven't read any of my posts...

    The 970M/980M don't throttle in Optimus mode in M17x R4 and AW17 !!!!!!

Stop whining your heads off and just use your NVIDIA GPU in Optimus mode! You can OC and do everything with unlocked vBIOS + EVGA Precision X!!

Also can someone tell me what display port version is the one in the m17x R4 or the M18x R2? Will it run 4k@ 60Hz??

  11. That is good news! How far have you pushed the voltage? I am tempted to reflash the unlocked voltage control again and push it today haha. I flashed back to an MSI 970m vBIOS. I think MSI uses a lower stock voltage than the clevo vBIOS and its still fully stable even at max stock OC of +135mhz core, and with lower temps due to lower voltage.

Talon my max OC was about +300 core and +600 memory.. Voltage was 1.065V (I'm running max boost clocks on 0.95V) so I need to push voltage more for bigger OC.. I don't want to brick card and have no time to bench so this is the best for now..
