Maybe you can try a newer driver? http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/81212/en-us Is the eGPU on? The GPU is getting the extra power from an additional PSU? Can you test in Windows? Please follow this guide: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8059-%5Bguide%5D-2013-15-macbook-pro-gt750m-gtx780ti%4016gbps-tb2-sonnet-ee-iii-d-osx10-10-a.html

Is anyone using an eGPU Daisychained as the 2nd device in the chain? E.g. using a HengeDock, which is already using a TB Port to provide extra ports. Could an eGPU be plugged into the HengeDock and still work the same way as without the Dock?

I am german The thread is mostly about testing all the possible small PCB PSUs. Bottomline is, he recommends the HD-Plex 250W HiFi! -
Maybe this thread will help. But I don't think that you can get a nice gaming rig. http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/4109-egpu-candidate-system-list.html Maybe a cheap ITX system will be better. Try to sum up all the money you would need for a low-mid PC vs the eGPU.

Haven't there been NUCs with Thunderbolt? Pity, guess that would have been the easier way.

Well that totally depends on the case/system you want to use. E.g. the CoolerMaster Elite 130 needs a right angle riser to support a molex powered flex riser as well. One user cut open his case on the bottom part to avoid using a angle riser and just go with the flex one. Here you can see (guess) the way I used the right anle riser, it's just to turn the PCIe connection of the graphics card by 90° to the right (to the back of the picture):

Seems like your Optimus isn't working properly.

EVGA is great, but not the most silent ones. If you go for a EVGA GTX 970 get the new SSC (careful, there is an old one with the same name) and the (not yet released) FTW+. The old cards have coil whine/buzzing problems. Like Tech Inferno Fan linked, the ViDock isn't a good option at all. Are you familiar with MacOSX? There are some new and interessting eGPU Windows Laptops just released: - MSI: http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7626-msi-egpu-dock-works-gs30.html - Alienware/Dell: http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/8142-%24300-alienware-graphics-amplifier-%5Bdiscussion%5D.html

Can be done, but you need the HDPLEX 250W (Peak 420W) Hi-Fi DC-ATX to convert the 19V to 12V. -
Sorry to hear that. But I have game sessions under Windows 8.1 up to 4h and no problems.

No wait! Fot the Elite 130 you need this riser: Delock Produkte Delock Riser Karte PCI Express x16 BTX rechts gerichtet I used that in my old Elite 130 build: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/7879-%5Bguide%5D-2013-13-macbook-pro-gtx970%4016gbps-tb2-akitio-thunder2-win8-1-osx10-10-a.html

I am using a Windows 8.1 dreamspark Version as well. Didn't had any problems.... Maybe you need a powered riser? -

The AKiTiO PSU was connected? Have you tried the following steps? Please try: - powering the Mac without the eGPU connected - Hold Alt and wait for boot selection - power the eGPU and connect to the Mac (wait 5sec) - boot into Windows - try to install driver or - powering the Mac without the eGPU connected - boot into Windows - power the eGPU and connect to the Mac (wait 5sec) - try to install driver Additionally please try this in OSX: [GUIDE] Macbook: enabling Optimus internal LCD mode Maybe you really need a powered riser? -

Well… kind of. You need to keep in mind that you might need 6 or 8-pin connectors for the GPU. If you just want to power a GTX 750Ti by a powered riser any SFX will be fine. To get an idea about the possible PSUs, here is a list from a german search page: Netzteile mit Hersteller: be quiet!/Chieftec/SilverStone, Formfaktor: SFX Preisvergleich | Geizhals Deutschland I am using the Chieftec SFX-500GD-C because it has a quiet 120mm fan and two 6/8-Pin PCIe connectors. -

Sure If your concern is about the PSU size, you can check out SFX PSUs. But keep in mind that this smaller PSUs need a louder cooling. The best balance between size and noise are the new SFX-L PSUs offered by Silverstone and Chieftec. -
Could please be a bit more precisely?! Is the whole system crashing -> shut down / reboot? Or is just the driver crashing -> game stops -> back to Windows desktop? The last option might be related to overclocked GPUs. I experienced problems like that when I overclocked my card too much.

Could you please open a new thread? It is quiet hard to follow / help you if we need to search for your informations (setup) everytime. Please try: - powering the Mac without the eGPU connected - Hold Alt and wait for boot selection - power the eGPU and connect to the Mac (wait 5sec) - boot into Windows - try to install driver or - powering the Mac without the eGPU connected - boot into Windows - power the eGPU and connect to the Mac (wait 5sec) - try to install driver Additionally please try this in OSX: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8558-%5Bguide%5D-macbook-enabling-optimus-internal-lcd-mode.html#post110757 Sorry if you have already done some of this steps, but I don't want to browse the last couple pages of the thread to follow you in every step. Regards -
True! One of the reasons I don't mind, that my eGPU setup isn't working in OSX. I am using a screen with multiple inputs and the input signal is set to auto recognition. For OSX the screen is connect by mini DP -> DP. For Windows and eGPU the screen is connected by DVI. But the screen is recognized two times in Windows (1st DVI, 2nd DP). To avoid that I simply disabled the mini DP -> DP screen in Windows. So I can just reboot into Windows/OSX and the screen is automatically selecting the correct input signal.
