  1. You can drag a game in Window mode from the external eGPU screen to the internal. Can you show us the videos?
  2. @romtroe: eGPU performance on the iMac 5k display will not work. The display itself is already directly connected to the AMD graphics and max resolution in Windows will be just 4k. For eGPU Performance on the iMac display you need Optimus (Intel iGPU) to display eGPU on the internal screen. An eGPU itself should work, but should go for an GTX 980 and TB2 to get max performance in 4k resolution.
  3. @phillkim8: Sure, it will work. The main difference is the CPU: 13" has 2 cores vs. 15" has 4 cores. Be aware that 2014 books and GTX 9X0 cards will not work in OSX yet. But Windows 8.1 is working great. ------------ Upgraded to a EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ faster, quieter, cooler ------------ Added Far Cry 4 gameplay video with mostly Ultra settings in 1920x1200.
  4. I think this could really work. 1. TB Display works in Windows 2. Optimus works on displays connected to the TB port of the MBPr (tested that today with a 24" Dell connected with a mini DP -> DP cable) The questions that remains is, if the TB display is special in any way to trouble that?!
  5. GTX 960 can only work if the OWC can provide more than the 100W and more than the 25W on the PCIe slot. Especially with all the higher clocked versions compared to Nvidias base model.
  6. The AKiTiO PSU is specified to only provide a max load of 60W and the official specifications of the PCIe slot are to provide just 25W (a GPU can use up to 75W on that slot). To avoid two problems, it is recommended to use a powered riser: - to avoid "ground loops" between two different PSUs powering one system - to improve stability and provide more power to the PCIe slot You can avoid using a riser by soldering a barrel plug for the PC PSU to replace the AKiTiO PSU or solder the 12V and ground directly to the PCB of the AKiTiO like Phantron did: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/8882-%5Bguide%5D-2014-13-macbook-pro-gtx970%4016gbps-tb2-akitio-thunder2-handle-win8-1-a.html
  7. Your welcome! And thanks for the 4k inside Is the Iris Graphic installed in Windows, can you check that? Or maybe you just made the display dark with the Mac Keyboard? OSX: MBPr 2014 and GTX 970/980 isn't working good right now. I wasn't able to get mine working in OSX as well.
  8. Sorry, but it is very hard to follow what you are writing… it is very confusing. Please try to seperate OSX and Windows! Dell 17"? thunderbolt-vga adapter? Connected to the MacBook and not the eGPU? Asus 4k? In OSX: Can you see the Sonnet III-D in OSX system report? Somewhere in the Thunderbold section?
  9. Strange… but the Sonnet III-D itself is turning on? Can you see the Sonnet III-D in OSX system report? Somewhere in the Thunderbold section? I had problems with my AKiTiO box too, because I couldn't make a successful first boot into Windows with the eGPU. So I booted without the eGPU in Windows (all updates installed) with latest bootcamp and Intel graphics driver. Once Windows booted I connected and powered on the AKiTiO and the eGPU. After that I was able to install the Nvidia driver.
  10. I think it is important that you differentiate between OSX and Windows! Did you plugged in the eGPU after Windows booted and installed the Nvidia driver (in Windows)? Please test in the beginning with an external display attached to the eGPU (DVI or DP, not HDMI). Can you explain your setup? Maybe post it in our signature?! For OSX please follow this guide: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8059-%5Bguide%5D-2013-15-macbook-pro-gt750m-gtx780ti%4016gbps-tb2-sonnet-ee-iii-d-osx10-10-a.html
  11. nice leg Have you installed the latest Bootcamp driver? Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 Have you installed the latest Intel Graphics driver? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 Please try booting without eGPU into Windows, after that turn on and connect the eGPU, install Nvidia driver! Additionally follow Evo*s guide: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/8558-%5Bguide%5D-macbook-enabling-optimus-internal-lcd-mode.html#post110757
  12. Some cards need a very stable 12V line and high wattage on the PCIe slot. A molex powered riser is providing more power to the slot and card. To make it more compact you can solder an adapter to provide power from the PC PSU directly through the barrel plug to the AKiTiO. Another way is to solder the cables directly to the PCB.
  13. Hi please read page 1, first post from nando: http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7205-us%24200-akitio-thunder2-pcie-box-16gbps-tb2.html A guide with all inside the AKiTiO (w/o PSU): http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/8882-%5Bguide%5D-2014-13-macbook-pro-gtx970%4016gbps-tb2-akitio-thunder2-handle-win8-1-a.html
  14. Hey @arnautovic: Please look into my Guide (Signature). I linked the Riser to a german eBay shop. The one I use has capacitors that might improve stability. For a german AKiTiO shop use this one: format.de-Artikelinformation: AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box The PSU, DeLock Riser, Case and GPU look fine. Just make sure the card fits into the case, because the Elite 110 is short.
  15. There are short: - GTX 760 - GTX 960 - GTX 750Ti cards… But there are people as well having everything just placed on their desk.
  16. Should be fine But the GPU+Riser combination will not fit into the AKiTiO Box any more.
  17. 15" MBPr (mid 2014), AKiTiO, powered Riser, EVGA GTX 970 FTW. Boots everytime with the eGPU into Windows without any problems. Booting OSX without the eGPU.
  18. @eleven: Windows 8.1 or MacOSX? Windows 8.1 is easy to get Optimus working. - the PSU should be enough for anything as fast as a GTX 960 or slower. Keep in mind that your PSU only has 1x6-Pin PCIe power connector. - consider getting a powered riser to provide power to the AKiTiO and the the GPU as well AKiTiO + 15" MBPr (mid 2014) is working good with Optimus for me. Please consider reading my guide as well
  19. Sorry no clue… some people have that problems (sometimes it works vs. sometimes it doesn't work). But when you boot with it, it works and you can play games? Have you tried to improve stability by testing using the powered riser? I never had that problems. My eGPU etup boots flawless everytime with full performance!
  20. I have read about HDMI problems, can you connect the display to another port on the eGPU?
  21. No offence, but that seems to be a very old PSU?! Try to get another one, please.
  22. What PSU is it? Did you double check the Paperclip trick?
  23. Hmmmm... can you test with the GTX 650? What power supply do you have? Was it the latest NVidia driver?
  24. Shadowplay does show, but not record it's own FPS counter! Must use Fraps or MSI Afterburner with RivaTuners OSD.
