  1. Ah you only have x8 slot… damn. You could cut open the slot so a x16 would fit in ^^ Is there a way you could switch to an AKiTiO Thunder2?
  2. Yeah… that's why we don't recommend using riser cables here… too often people are having problems. The thing is… - how are you powering the Sonnet? Please don't use 2 PSUs at the same time - If you want a good riser, take a look here: http://www.moddiy.com/products/Premium-Gold-Plated-16x-PCI%252dE-Extension-Shielded-Cable-Riser-%2819cm%29.html or http://www.highflow.nl/hardware/videokaarten/li-heat-pci-e-gen-3.0-ribbon-flexible-riser-cable-black.html I ordered the first one and post my experiences first hand ASAP I got it. A cheap powered riser worked for me in the past as well though... The quality of the cheap riser cables varies too much!
  3. Windows 10 works great for on the internal display!
  4. you can't get more wattage... It's more how you spread the load on the plugs. A Molex plug only has one 12V pin and pumping 90W = 7,5amdps over that might be "melty".
  5. Inside should be yellow (12V), yes. Better test if that inner cable makes is the same as the inner connector of the barrel plug.
  6. Made a total reset of my MacBook to test Windows 10 today. I have eGPU performance on: - external display - internal display without external display - internal display with external display connected and internal is main desktop Had some trouble with the driver in the beginning but after some reboots and the installation of the latest driver it all worked great!
  7. Can you test with an external display? Are both GPUs in your device manager?
  8. I installed Windows 10 today from scratch for testing Windows 10 myself. First of all it is good that the eGPU is running in OSX, because we can be pretty sure the eGPU setup is fine. For Windows... Please try this booting procedure: - turn on MB - press und hold alt key - wait for boot chime and boot selection menu - wait for WiFi search to finish - now turn on the eGPU (already connected) - wait 2-3sec - boot into Windows Also a check list: - Did you install the whole bootcamp driver package? - Latest Nvidia driver installed? (361.82) - Can you test with an external display connected to the eGPU?

  10. Just from the size I would say the 2nd one, but I do not want to give you advice on that FD. So please be careful!
  11. Windows should work, yes! Problem is that AFAIK Apple made a global setting that disables 4@60Hz on older Macs. It doesn't matter which GPU it is, it's checked by Mac model itself. Maybe ask here if 4@60Hz will be possible: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7989-script-automating-the-installation-of-egpu-on-os-x-inc-display-output/
  12. You should be able to use a 4k screen, but I am not sure if you could use 60Hz. AFAIK Apple is making the 60Hz option only available on the latest Macs.
  13. Is there a way to restore that EFI partition? Seems like I lost my Backup
  14. That are barrel plugs for bitcoin miners and other hardware. Yes it would work, but you would send up to 90W across one 12V and one ground rail… That 20$ could be spend better.
  15. @Kr4nG Yes Audio is working, did you read my 6 steps?
  16. @nickatitfactor I had a GTX970 and a GTX980Ti daisychained in OSX and was able to use both in rendering apps.
  17. Hm maybe the 4k iMac is working differently. Can you try: - turn on iMac - press and hold "alt" key - wait for boot chime and boot selection menu - wait until WiFi search is done - now turn on the already connected eGPU - wait 2sec - boot into Windows Or you try the other EFI I linked above.
  18. You can simply get a barrel plug with screw terminals and avoid soldering!
  19. Well the conclusion is, Optimus is not working with your current setup. Are you running Windows 8 or 8.1? Are you comfortable updating to Windows 10? Optimus seems to work there with the current driver. For Windows 8.1 Optimus might need a little help to work: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/6727-guide-macbook-enabling-optimus-internal-lcd-mode/&page=1
  20. @Kr4nG I installed Windows 10 yesterday and had problems with the bootcamp drivers as well. 1. download the correct Bootcamp driver package from Apple 2. start the setup for installing the driver 3. my installation froze with the installation of the audio driver, so I went deeper into the driver folder and started the Realtek driver installtion driver manually. Do NOT reboot after the installation! Go to the Task Manager and kill the old realtek process. Bootcamp driver should continue installation 4. install the latest Geforce driver 5. Reboot 6. profit
  21. @stemoac Can you first test making the external display (connected to the eGPU) your main display and run a test/benchmark? Secondly try with the eGPU without the external display and try a test/benchmark on the internal display.
  22. This is the app: https://github.com/Eun/DisableMonitor I don't have long time experience with the eGPU in OSX. Can try and use it tomorrow the wole evening. What seemed to work for me: - download the app - disable the internal display by the app - close the lid - use it totally on the external display
