  1. Yes you are correct..I guess its safe to base GPU selection on its official TDP..but aren't those measurements accurate? I see that oscilloscopes and powerclamps were used so I thought that was accurate Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  2. @Tech Inferno Fan Sir can you be able to use that image I posted for the "Real" power consumption of multiple GPUs as part of the DIY eGPU guide? Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  3. Hey Im back yes I measure my GPU; Length - if PCB only excluding that steel part where the outputs stick out its like 27cm only, if including that steel part its like 28.5CM! Width - for GPU its like 4.5 cm but if inlcuding the exp gdc its 5 - 5.5CM Height - GPU plus the EXP GDC adapter is like 14.5CM. If including the PCIe cables with its curvature, its like 15-16CM Great! Now which one are we talking about again? LOL the acrylic or the steel one? Can I secure the EXP GDC by screwing it to the acrylic enclosure? Is that possible? And that steel part with the output ports stick out, can it be screwed to the enclosure? - - - Updated - - - Actually I have extra cables here but I'm afraid packages from the middle east especially containing with wires will surely scare the issh out of your post office, heck even your customs LOL
  4. With my Lenovo G500(budget notebook) luckily my wifi mini pcie slot does not have a whitelist, it had recognized my egpu right away. I learned also at the official Lenovo forums that replacing the cpu will void the warranty, weird policy Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  5. Alrighty then! Good news! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  6. I think titanfall is not very much taxing mate, I can even run it at medium settings with frames from 30-40 fps in my i5 8570m laptop.. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  7. Sorry I hate to burst your bubble but this is not the correct cable matey.. Just order from yoy buy man, it will cost like $10 bucks only Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  8. Man be with the reds..red team Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  9. AMD R9 295X2!! Price dropped from $1500 to $1000! Can't beat that!
  10. Story line of it is quite weird and disturbing, otherwise its being overshadowed by its steampunkery and awesome graphics, played that in my old XBOX 360 Phat
  11. probably that new R9 285, you won't regret it, be on the red team!
  12. @Tech Inferno Fan Sir may I suggest that you may need to post this image as a guide to would be and current eGPU enthusiasts? I think this information is reliable enough; This graph of GPU power consumption really show the real powe draw of GPUs. It can help many who are still deciding which GPU to use. Other than that the GPU TDP values now seems to be Max value where a card can safely operate I guess based on this graph.
  13. @Tech Inferno Fan Lastly MXM cards are on ebay, enclosures now available but how is it going to be implemented to future laptop users? Is is still via mPCIE, Expresscard, PCIE? How is the cooling for this? I understand that it needs heatsinks to be cooled so is this MXM eGPU viable? and I wonder if a mSATA based eGPU enclosure can be possible in the future? I realized that most laptops with dvd drives can be easily removed and replaced with third party hdd cradles, Ultrabay GPU like that of the Lenovo Y510P and that port can provide high speeds am I right?
  14. Nice! How many days you waited for it buddy and how much it costs if you won't mind? Yeah those heatpipes can really add to the dimensions. @jacobsson @Tech Inferno Fan Why not try to suggest to the makers universal dimensions for acrylic and stell enclosures prolly L -30CM W-7CM H - 17CM so gpu fitment would not be an issue to exp gdc users? @all I wonder if its possible in the future to make an implementation based on mSATA interface? like that of the Y510P GPU ultrabay? I think that route provides a faster lane am I right? I realized this last night when I planned to make a hole under next to that mini pcie half height slot cause its making the mini pcie connector rise to a little bit of an angle and cable would then pass through that created hole and via the dvd drive..my plan. Anyone knows which tools can be safely used to create a hole or cut through a plastic underneath a laptop and its cover? - - - Updated - - - Lastly MXM cards are on ebay, enclosures now available but how is it going to be implemented to future laptop users? 15. Yeah it been a long time coming, like I said setup was just a fantasy for me since 2010 when you guys started this movement. Months before I started to gain interest again with an eGPU, plans were firm to build a mini itx gaming pc, an i5 and an r9 280/280x Yes it is really a beast, a lot of research I had done before deciding on this gpu for that mini itx build and figured why not use it for an eGPU instead? from there the rest is history, now I am a happy gamer once again. Fantasy turned Reality. cheesy sounding isn't it? I will measure my card again too tonight, I remember the length is like 28 or 28.5cm will report back, You already have the acrylic enclosure?
  16. Alright I got you mate, yes it would have been better if there were images to dispel off doubts to EXP GDC V6 owners. And I doubt the acrylic version and that steel one by herocloud will barely fit my big 7950/R9 280 card. I was supposed to be going the same route with your plan, to build a mini itx gaming pc but my perspective changed when I was able to run BF4 at ulra settings even at large conquest map 64 players online gameplay.. Now I am planning to buy a monitor, mech keyboard and gaming mouse, and that enclosure too. Hell I would even upgrade my laptop CPU (yes I can) to an i7-3632QM, 16GB RAM, and an SSD for future proofing
  17. I hope you wont mind me asking regarding that enclosure..is there anywhere that supports the GPU stability and holds it in place tightly like those default mounts in the side where output ports stick out? Is the exp gdc screwable in thr bottom part of the acrylic enclosure? Any part which holds the gpu screw mounts? Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks for your guide Tech Inferno Fan I am about to make this project too!
  19. Really? I think the acrylic one is for an old version of the EXP GDC, and the steel one has cut ous compatible with the V6 IMO, not sure though until someone buys one and post images. Maybe a 3d printed version might be cheaper in the long run like in your eGPU implementation with a GTX 670 mini, by the way I qouted you there.
  20. Mine is about 28cm length (PCB only), 14.5cm (height), 4cm (width) I am using a gigabyte radeon hd 7950 so I am guessing this enclosure might able to house this big ass gpu. I wanted to purchase it but its quite costly for me its 50 bucks, maybe a 3d printed one might be cheaper! My 7950 is a boost edition, finally I figured it out since its pin connectors composed of a 6pin and an 8pin port, its TDP rating is at 225+W (as per Wikipedia) Forgot to tell MW2 was running off from an external HDD, maybe that's the reason why it was choppy And so far I tested BF4 this morning at ultra settings plus mantle and perfoverlay. max is 50+fps and average is like 40+fps (Test Field) Multiplayer like Conquest large @ 64 players at the same settings is almost the same but performance degrades overtime, probably a temperature throttle or power throttle which I will find out soon. AMD 14.8 Catalyst Drivers installed. Regarding the enclosures availability, CS rep told it will take more days and I will wait until someone purchased this.
  21. I can vouch for the Lenovo G500 as a candidate for an eGPU (i5 3230M+AMD RADEON HD 8750M+4GB RAM+500GB HDD+Windows 8+out of the box support for an EXP GDC V6 (budget notebook LOL) Did it myself with the EXP GDC V6 + Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 boost Rev 2.0 (225+W TDP)
  22. What an amazing work you have here sir! I am wondering Mr, Jacobson, did you design yourself the 3d printed enclosure? Can you make a rendering for me too? I find that an enclosure is needed for stability purposes as I have a big ass Radeon HD 7950 card
  23. Well I just downloaded now the necessary files like GPU-Z, CPU-Z, AMD Drivers 14.8, Intel HD 4000 driver and I will try to find what the speed really is of my PCIE port, prolly I will use AIDA64 to find out later tonight. Thanks Tech Inferno Fan! even if I don't have to use your software 1.30, I will still send you $25 bucks soon as a sign of my appreciation and support to this fun and never ending experiment!
  24. Yes I have successfully setup my Lenovo G500 and a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 3GB 200W TDP (R9 280) via an EXP GDC V6 and will do a proper write up soon so good luck so us all and thanks so much to the forefathers of this eGPU art especially to Tech Inferno Fan!!
  25. @Tech Inferno Fan GURU3d! That should be your new title man! Do I need this setup 1.30 for my Lenovo G500 i5 3230M (HD 4000+Radeon HD 8750M) + EXP GDC V6 (Radeon HD 7950)? It looks like the performance is x1.0 PCI-e 2.0 , I think I saw that somewhere in the device manager last night. But it seems to me that the performance is a little bit bottlenecked thoug I don't see any error 43 or 12 in the device manager. Please help me out Tech Inferno Fan
