I did, belive me I tried all I could think of including setting permanent administrative privileges - and didn't get squat with it, no output file. But unlocked bios from TheReciver worked, unfortunately... overclocking of 4930mx still don't work, at least preliminary results aren't encouraging. All the proper controls for TDP exist in unlocked bios but they don't have any impact on CPU behaviour - it looks like TDP is either hardware locked to CPU basic states or EC controlled.

Ill play with them some more but I don't have much hope as it looks similar to MSI GT gen2 and 3 and there is no TDP offset option.

Probably best CPU for y510p will be 4900mq - its a shame really because with eGPU adapter and 4930/40xm you could make mighty fine gaming rig with it.

The link of the fan mod had @ghoul explaining his experience with the 4930mx, wasnt able to maintain clocks as any settings changed didnt seem to stick.

I guess we will have to request the aid of BIOS modders, though I dont know any lol

Should still be able to push 4910mq, but obviously performance will be determined by how TDP measures

  2. I dont like ultrabooks, y510p is prolly the thinnest I would go and I do like it. I may still grab a y410p later on the cheap and plop the 755m I have now in it for MMO box or something.

Well pre flash was all stock, previous owner didnt know about this sort of thing beyond it was SLI verison of the laptop and removing grill helps air flow.

Personally the y50-70 didnt make sense to me. Same performance level of the 755m SLI in a new chassis. I fully expected an 850m SLI or 950m SLI but that never happened and I never bought another Lenovo anything because of it. Doesnt make sense to me, ultrabay shows eGPU is easily possible with proper bandwidth but we are still with mpcie/NVME/TB1/2/3 solutions that do make it a better experience but isnt a future proofing solution IMHO. Even Alienwares touted eGPU is only what? pcie 3.0 x4? y700 showed up late as hell and was just weird all around to me...Lenovo cant see to get it right...Really liked my y510p in its hay day though

Its just another way to inflate the pricing on this type of demand, and when it fails claim that there was no market demand for it. Quite irritating.

md5 checksum file for those that want to ensure integrity. I accept no responsibility in results these are just the files from my flash process (without issue, I might add lol)

In any case, YMMV, you have been warned!

    I have installed bios 3.05 :D around 2 hours ago :P

I guess you still think I'm not very smart do you ? ;)

I cant keep up with your edits is all. I only see original posts immediately after notification from the forum that the post was made.

It will be a lot easier to just wait or hell make a double post for all I care ( I dont know if its against ToS though lol)

Im studying Thermodynamics in university right now, refreshing forum posts to ensure edits arent being made is not something I am doing to say the least...

  5. I cant speak to the inner processes of how that application works. I would assume that you would actually have to have 3.05 installed for it to extract/read from.

I think I may actually have the bios files on a flash drive, will have to dig for it, give me a minute.

  6. That can all be disabled, even if it cant be disabled on the OS you can still block it on your router. I plan to get pfSense running in the future.

Off topic though, in any case Windows 7 should allow for BIOS flash, then I dont see why Windows 8 wouldnt work after mods are completed.

  7. Oh yeah? Oh thats probably mentioned earlier in the thread. I cant recall the entire threads contents lol

Windows 10 isnt bad after tweaking it, Its annoying that I have to do that but considering I didnt pay for it I cant complain much ( got it free from dreamspark ).

  8. Cant really say anything about that, I hate Windows 8/8.1 in its entirety and it was the first thing I did to my y510p upon arrival as it brought nothing to the table and was completely undesired. Just my singular opinion though.

Actually I tried to use fixer on the stock 3.05 already but it doesn't work. I don't know if this is because I use win 8.1 or because it needs other file format - ill try on the second pc.

Never worked on anything with 8.1 / 10. Probably has to do with Secure Boot but I cant say with any certainty as I am certainly no BIOS modder.

Installed Windows 7 and had the BIOS flashed 10 minutes later.

  10. 3.05v is also provided in the OP of the first link, then can use BIOS fixer.

Not sure if my EC updated sometimes it sticks on 2.07 but thats off topic

EDIT: Is the link broken or something?

  11. 3.05 is unlocked and provided by T|I, from the same pack you got 2.07 from. 2.07 = white list removal and 3.05 is unlocked with vBIOS mods (since one is BIOS + vbios and ultrabay vbios.)

I traded my i5 2500k/290x system for the y510p because airliner wouldnt permit the SFF desktop (slightly larger than permitted)

I then attempted v3.05 but would constantly fail under Windows 10/8.1 (I dont have 8) Then disabled Secure Boot > enable Legacy Boot installed Windows 7 and everything worked without issue. Everything post Windows 7 on this machine is just a PITA.  I wanted the unlocked BIOS for the modded vBIOS on the 755m's to undervolt the ultrabay 755m since it throttles under load @ stock.

Only recommendation I could provide is to install Windows 7 and re-run it. I just left Windows 7 on it after. May go Windows 10 in the future with it as I already run it on my m4600 with telemetry crap disabled + Startisback. Haven't done the 1703 update though, waiting on feedback from other users first.

  12. Hmm, does svet have an account here on T|I? There is also Prema but he stopped publicizing his mods because people abused his code.

EmberV and Klem dabble in this kind of thing as well, but I think that may be vBIOS only not sure.

Ive got modded 3.05 right now

  13. I dont know, he doesnt reply to anything here on the forum and there are plenty of people still trying to get in contact with him. I have spent the last hour mulling over the BIOS mod thread but the links are dead with the 1.10

Maybe we should just trial and error the existing 3.05 unlocked BIOS to enable functionality? I wont be getting one until the next batch and building the eGPU until after I finish university though.

Well with that much modding I would rather go for custom water cooling block something like the one on Fury X ;) you could put a cooler with flat fan instead of 2.5" hdd and a pump instead of stock fan. I plan to keep my unit fully mobile if not for that I could even use some moded desktop gpu heat sinks under the chassis (there is no problem with connecting them tu external desktop PSU). But as I wrote earlier - unless we get unlocked bios and there will be option to remove or trick power draw limit it doesn't have much sense as stock heatsink modification is quite enough too keep temps in check - all you need is some Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid metal thermal grease, normal thermal compound like cryonaut or gelid and something to clamp heat pipes together, also some copper self-adhesive tape is quite handy :).

Yeah there was a member that had done that before. Though its too clunky and I dont have the tools needed to fabricate it. Air cooling will have to suffice.

I actually plan to remove some of the padding from the bottom panel, strip an SSD to the PCB and stack them in the same compartment, just cover the contact points with electric tape or something...

Ill also likely be removing the wireless adapter in favor of 2x SATA ports but we'll see if the need comes up, otherwise its likely that I get the m.2 to mSATA adapter, m.2 non NVME drives basically dont exist in korea, msata are plentiful though so that way I could also have 1TB or 512GB SSD on that port.

We will have to contact the modders on this forum and see what options are available to us and if its feasible for them to produce. Slv7 has retired so while he would be best for comment, its simply not an option.

Ill get some of that eventually, most likely CLU as iirc its thicker so I wont have to worry about it running off the die lol

Ordering parts takes like a month to arrive, so I am just operating under the pretense that we will find a way in time. Also it works out for my final in university

God to know but I think that as they have the same current as the original one they wont make that much of a difference - they have a bit larger rotor diameter but I guess You had to notice that fan blades in y510p have very peculiar double design - it makes them quite efficient and silent at the same time. What would be best is "cracking" EC fan table - just like in the MSI GT in which you can set your own fan speeds/tripping temperatures and even hysteresis - all we need is hex addresses for those values in y510p EC firmware.

Believe me brother, I have been waiting for someone to crack that since the y510p released lol The current fan curve has been the bane of this laptop. I even considered getting the opolar LC06 to work around this.

I have noticed there are at least 3 different fans used in the y510p though. I just bought a replacement fan as I plan to mod that one into the ultrabay 755m and it was then that I learned of the dual blade design. The one I have on my unit is a "traditional" fan blade design. Still the fan is only 6.4 CFM versus the 10.4/11.2 options available for modding. The laptop will be under a desk or hanging from the wall after I am finished modding.

I have my m4600 for mobile if I need to, its my daily driver right now anyways, and I will never be able to sell the y510p in Korea since its not localized and I dont know any hardware forums in korean, not to mention uses a different power connector This will become my desktop, and I will push it to its limit, I am determined to show the performance rPGA is capable of.

I will also be cutting 2 holes for the heatsink to breath as well. I used the coolermaster U3 fans as templates, and removed the grills from the fans to attach to the bottom of the unit. I will then be adding copper throughout the heatpipes, naturally the cooler master u3 will be cooling it with its fans directly, but also its what will be used to hang from the wall.

I dont like having the cables be everywhere so I have been thinking of a solution to that as well. With the U3, buy a pcie riser cable and let the GPU rest on the opposite side of the U3, along with a PSU on sort.  I havent decided if the 330w or 2 210w or maybe a 1U server PSU if I can find something that isnt too loud...

  16. Sure can, just note its not a "compatible" fan as straight plug and play, but works without extensive modification.

That is confirmed working in the y510p. Next I am not sure of, but I believe it will...

You can cut it sure but rather just keep it connected or even better. Put it on a small switch something like the following...

Just need to swap the middle two wires and it should be plug and play, the link I showed before displays how it can be done on the first page

  17. Yeah I grew with luggables in my household lol

But yeah if we can get the 2.07 BIOS fully unlocked then we might be in business. Brother @Klem just might be able to point us in the right direction. Believe, if we can get the 4930mx overclocked I am fully on board. I was just approved my "experiment" so I will be replacing my fan with a 10.4/11.4 CFM fan to enhance the cooling capacity for my project in university.

Just got to buy me a dremel and order the fan and I am good to go. This was all in anticipation of getting the 4930mx or 4910mq, not that the 4910mq needs it. I like to mod, its almost as fun as OCing lol
