  1. I'm so close maybe somebody has suggestions? I want to get 6K 3DMark2011. I just got 5976 just 24 points away on stock paste. http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/3dmark20115976result920core1235memory115v105tdp80tdc1497bclk34quad.jpg 3dmark2011 5976 result 920 core 1235 memory 1.15v 105tdp 80tdc 149.7 bclk 3.45 quad used for test Result My most recent runs I was able to do 3dmark2011 5970 result 920 core 1235 memory 1.15v 125tdp 95tdc 149.7 bclk 3.45 quad 3.6 Dual I just can't seem to get those 24 points. At this point I've started using HWinfo32 for fan control but seems to not yield any better results. Heat being a problem factor, HWinfo is amazing though. Throttles Stop+ HWINFO32+ SetFSB = Gold! How are my overclocks? My Physics score (CPU) went from 7545 to 7687 in 3DMark2011.
  2. hmmm guess we are left waiting to see if the 240 is the only adapter for M18X or will they offer the 320 for those who "Get the Works" with theirs...
  3. Thanks Brian, now we are just left wondering why sell the 1200Shader 6970M.
  4. They don't have me sold. Dell-Alienware has me sold but not plain Dell. The Inspiron tear-down thread shows similar issues to that of the HP I owned. Though I do believe if those two models are compared that the Inspiron does have better cooling but to tell you the truth no one's consistent. I personally wish my CPU paste was done better from factory on my R2... there's a 8 degree Celsius difference between some cores at extreme load. Anyway there's a third Dell at my homestead of my Mother's also and it's a Studio 15 and suffers from the exact same issue. One copper pipe for GPU and CPU and a shared fan is no way adequate for most systems although they skate by because they think oh it's a laptop that's meant to be portable so there's no need for fancy cooling. There is plenty need for good cooling even in basic office oriented setups. I had a Fujitsu N6010 (a 17inch notebook) I gave to my girlfriend when I got the HP before the Alienware. The Fujitsu with exception of my R2 had the best design, build, feel, look, cooling out of the 3 aforementioned computers... HP HDX, Dell Inspiron and Studio. It had two fans, one for a basic core 2 duo and another for it's HD2600M, which may I say for it's time was amazing the video card over-clocked a little bit too even for a computer probably never deigned to overclock. It's a nice system, I'll post some pics when I clean that one out soon. I'll probably do a tear down of the Fujitsu, the Studio 15, and the HP HDX18t... which will be my brothers not the one my mom got from me. I may re-paste my brother's HP to combat that horrible thermal design flaw before he burns his GT130M up... since the max temp for the Q9000 is 105 degrees 5 degrees celcius over the I7.
  5. I haven't run into something like that but you definitely should debug. Try if you haven't seeing if it's only when on battery, or only when plugged in or both. One thing that comes to mind is there's a basic way audio cards and speakers are turned off as a power-saver feature when not currently being utilized and it could just have to do with that mechanism losing the last bit of juice as the system loses phantom power.

    M11x R3

M11X is one fast netbook sized computer
  7. So what would have better CPU performance 2920XM in an M17X R3 or M18X?
  8. That thing sounds amazing, i'm wondering what Brian's overall final opinion of the 6970M in a R2 is... and why would you sell it its got nice scores?
  9. Great job it really looks great, I love the lines reminds me of the nice lines of a nice muscle car.
  10. Good question can't be sure on that yet, I don't remember having Crossfire Issues prior to Service Pack 1's install. I do know I've had issue with unplugging the system and plugging it back in and having crossfire still enabled. Stealth Mode has gotten me on occasion and disables crossfire and doesn't always turn it back on. Both really aren't issues but they caught me off guard and now I know to be sure the settings haven't been changed.
  11. Hang in there owning an Alienware is actually great. You can find everything you need here at Tech|Inferno, some one here is bound to have an answer to your question or can point you in the right direction. You may need to tweak but its a given with gaming computers in general. Get all the tweaks in you'll be right up where you want to be. No question is too noob-ish, questions are the path to knowledge. I'm not familiar with the R1, I know the R2 is just as StamatisX described, stealth-mode can easily be tapped unknowingly and the notification could have been missed. Hang in there there's a reason Alienware has the reputation it has.
  12. I owned a HP HDX-18T which had 18.3inch 1920x1080 LCD, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 @ 2ghz, 4Gb DDR3 1066Mhz, (2)512Gb 7.2K w/ Nvidia GT-130M. What I concluded after a year of ownership is it was easy, cheap, and if I were to guess probably quick to be produced by HP. The overall performance was okay for the components in the system, for that reason alone the system performance was acceptable in average use and multimedia. There was one fan for the system in that model and it is hindered in my opinion from overheating due to the graphics heat sink location on the same copper tubing as the processor causing each to heat up when each other was under load alone even in just a graphic load or a processor load on the system. When I would play a game that worked the system it would start overheating and crawl to a stutter. In most cases the GPU would throttle due to the added heat. So I HP's manufacture process and thermal design have improved. But integrated and low cost factor's should not rank high in manufacturing a great product. Research actual schematics of laptops before you buy and check reviews, there are some flawed designs out there hiding among the great ones and their manufacturers don't want you to know which category they fall under. Stay Away from integrated chips because when something goes wrong the entire board and integrated chips will have to be replaced at the same time. Could that possibly be a marketing ploy to get you paying more in repairs?
  13. Lol, sounds like a Schizophrenic wishing they never heard voices. Hmm like a faucet dripping or something similar that you didn't hear before but then someone brings it to your attention and you just want to forget you heard anything. I'd have to say if the noises start turning into voices your better off giving your self a labotomy to save your self from the torture.
  14. I'd get the 2920XM no matter what and downclock the video cards if need be...
  15. I don't think windows 7 service pack 1 is something to get excited over but I have had it installed since it came out. Seems to be bug free.
  16. Had a HP HDX18t with a gt130m and it only worked good with latest drivers from Nvidia
  17. Unreal25 do you have any benches to share? The Wiz's custom A10 bios allows bios over-clocking for non XM edition cpu's so you can attempt similar feats. Brian has a thread started about it.
  18. DR650SE please do I believe the 920XM can match the 940XM to a tee. Keep up the amazing work I'm cheering for ya. You are showing what an R2 can peak at but this certainly shows there's unlockable performance in the R2 that's tapped into with proper cooling. So there is room for improvement in thermal design and I'd love to see some more user discovered techniques and mods to improve the design under normal function(laptop completely assembled). I am also looking forward to seeing the 6970M being benched to it's limits. Have you thought about doing what Brian did with the 6970M and the R2? Mumak did do amazing with fan control given it didn't work at all to start. Now I want to hear why this won't work please. The R2 with Crossfire 6970M, using a vbios from another branded card couldn't you flash the secondary card correctly, leaving th only problem being voltage? In which case couldn't you down clock just enough to allow thier use? I think card for card 5870M could still be beat with a single 6970M even downclocked a little. So if that works or not I wonder, a single 5870M of DR650SE overclocked to the same speeds used for 3DMark2011 against stock 6970M and an overclocked 6970M just for comparison.
  19. wbat007 you make a great point. All kidding aside I agree with you, I think the M18x is mysterious and elusive that what makes the idea of it so attractive. Without confirmation that it has the features you want and at the price set you want don't put all your eggs in one basket. I think we can be sure M18X is confirmed but what features and parts are not guaranteed. WBAT007 great advice. Until it's release the M18X's specs are simply stipulatory.
  20. Now that's a score that won't be touched without going through the same effort with dice. Conratulations DR650SE, very impressive score. What amazing clocks. With those scores i'm wondering if you could beat 6970M crossfire or a GT485M SlI. I want to see the laptops limits to Stam this is quite a setup. Would anyone here say the 920XM can reach similar limits a 940XM can? Again Kudos DR650SE amazing stuff. Your score eclipses any laptop I know of.
  21. Congratulations DR650SE, nice score. Looks like there's a triple threat on 3DMark11 everybody steer clear of Stamatis-X, DR650SE, MW86. Brian if you reran your 3DMark run it may help you sell your R2. CCC settings are very important. Turning off tesselation is very important, thank Stam. Also turn mipmaps to high performance, Catalyst Optimization to performance, check the box to optimize flat surfaces and make sure anistropic is set to app setting and antialiasing to box(seems to be best performance for antialiasing). Now if I can use setfsb to set 148mhz baseclock and have fans at max with HWInfo while tweak itls setting to low resources used, I just may be able to go up a tiny bit more. DR650SE my last increase that I saw was from the 89TDC, 90 caused me to restart comp. Plus I turned off the tweak for constant turbo max multiplier on quad core to the origional dynamic behavior of the cpu. So my dual core and single core modes were faster for the tests that did not have physics which I believe the physics tests are all quad core. DR650SE lets see 6100+ with your dry ice, I know you can do it at 1ghz core, just need to keep that spaceship cool.

  23. Sounds incredible a 990X in a laptop? Could catch your pants on fire. I'd go with a Sager NP7280 myself if I had the money.
