  1. Wow this is impressive!!! Can you make a new thread and explain step by step how to make this modd possible. Maybe someone can provide you some pics of the process if you don't made them. I'll be greatly thankful because this is what every Y500 owner wants...
  2. I think I'm going to leave the bottom open and put some furniture pads under my Y500...
  3. If it does you're always welcome in Holland and no I'm not high...
  4. Is it recommended to enable "Lenovo Fast Boot" in the Bios? I want to reinstall Windows 8 in UEFI-mode for a faster startup...
  5. I have the same laptop and I have also the same heat issues. I've bought the same laptop cooler because of the modding ability. The problem of the Y500 is the poor vent-construction. What I want to do is drill small holes in the bottom cover to let more air in. I have tested my Y500 carefully with and without the bottom cover, and with no laptop cooler under the laptop. I put 2 small boxes underneath the Y500. These were the results: Results with bottom cover: CPU 82C GPU 93C Results without bottom cover: CPU 73C GPU 77C There is an other solution to transfer heat out but that's to risky for me. You can use washers to tighten the CPU and GPU to the heatsink. I called Lenovo to order a bottom cover but they will call me back. After that I will begin modding the bottom cover and the cooling pad.
  6. Even that is not enough to tame the beast... I say buy a new bottom cover and drill holes to let more air in.
  7. I think that when I drill small holes in the bottom cover there will be more airflow to keep the Y500 cool. Of course I will use a dustfilter... I've searched for a bottom cover but I didn't find one. I want to keep this one in case the project fails. I searched at ebay and on Welcome to Lenovo Spare Parts -. Can anyone point me in the right direction please...
  8. Well... I'm using this one (Y500) as a desktop, it's to big to hang out with it on the sofa anyway. And I "must" spend my money on somthing...
  9. I posted this in an other thread.. It's good to see that the temps are drestically low with the lid off, but with a major downside.
  10. I'm going to repaste the CPU and GPU's, after that I plan to mod a Cooler Master Notepal U3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997872&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6146846&SID=1ktvlnhp5hldc The three 80mm fans will be replaced by three 120mm. What I also want to do is placing one fan on each side (left and right) on the outtake. I want to make a push pull config out of it...
  11. Here are some fixes you can try... I hope you'll solve the bluetooth problem with one of the tips above...
  12. Which thermal paste did you use to get so low and what do you use to clean the surface. Should I repaste the Ultrabay GPU... Thank you for all your help
  13. Oke... So I should leave all the other settings/options untouched?
  14. Thats genius... Wat are the setting that you use?
  15. Thanks for your help but i can't see the settings because the image is to small. And do you use more profiles in ThrottleStop if so please ad those to... Thanks a million
  16. Yesterday I've tested my CPU and GPU with Crysis 3 running for 30 minutes. I've tested the Y500 with and without the backplate. And with the backplate on things where kooking inside especially the GPU. I'm using a Zalman laptop cooler but the cooleringfan has no results with the backplate on. I looked at where the coolingfan is mounted but the fan of the cooler and of fans of the Y500 are not facing each other. I will try to order a new backplate for modding and hopefully I can bring the temps down. Results with backplate: CPU 82C GPU 93C Results without backplate: CPU 73C GPU 77C
  17. I've figured out what stress tools to use but Furmark only stress one GPU the second doesn't kick in. I tried the tips on the web but no luck, it drives me mad... PS I'm not using W8.1 and I have the latest NVIDIA driver 331.65 [TIPS] How to Enable SLI and CrossFire Support for OpenGL Applications | Geeks3D The next step is to configure ThrottleStop and I read the OP of uncleweb but I'm realy lost. A few minutes ago I send him a PM and asked him to start a new thread for us Y500 users. If someone can help me out to configure ThrottleStop it will really be tremendous.
  18. I've flased my bios and I'm very happy with it. Full credits to svl7 and jester_socom many thanks for the auto overclock mod. You both turned my Y500 in a real beauty. Before the flash I played Crysis 3 in a low resolution and low settings, now a can play it in 1080P with high settings. It's really awesome... Now I want to learn more about TrottleStop. These settings are realy guenius, but before I begin I want to know more about it. Where can I find more info about TrottleStop. And which tests can I use to test out the temps and safety, so I can use it without worring about killing my rig. Also what kind of programs do you guys use ingame to determine temps...
  19. Maybe it's a weird question but is there enyone have experiance with building an external cooler from a metal suitcase. The plan is to stuf some fans in (the more, the better) and fit the whole Y500 inside. I want to connect a 27" screen so it's no problem if I can't use the screen of the Y500. At the in- and outtake I want to fit 2 fans, the whole space will be stuffed with foam so there only flow air in and out at the right places. And maybe just maybe I'm going to fit 2 more fans at the outside...
  20. Can you post benchmarks of the i7 at standard speed (without ThrottleStop) and at full power (with ThrottleStop), so I can decide what to do. I'm asking myself if it's worth it, because i think there's a little headroom. On the other side I'm thinking to build an external cooling of a metal cd briefcase...
  21. Thats great news... I gues I'm going to wait with flashing, but I think I'm not brave enough to flash. I found the video though, the only thing that holds me back is that there is no video for the vBIOS for the ultra-bay GPU. Can anyone help me with this? I'm realy afraid to brik my laptop, so a little help realy will be highly appreciated.
  22. How much FPS can I expect with a game like Crysis 3 in 1080P when both 650m GPU's overclocked? And is it necessary to use Throttlestop on the i7? Can anyone tel me how to squeeze the maximum out my laptop. I think jester_socom's thread is exellent to auto overclock the GPU's. I'll greatly appreciate any advice here... http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/3593-ideapad-y500-bios-mods-overvolting-overclocked-out-box.html
  23. After hours of reading the hole thread I'm ready to flash my Y500 SLI. When I bought my Y500 I thought there would be no issue with demanding games like Crysis 3 and Metro. When I saw how mutch I had to downgrade the settings I had to do something about that. And I was realy pleased to find this thread. Before I begin I want to know in what order to flash and install a 7260ac card. 1 Do I first pull out the 2230 default card or turn off wifi in the bios. 2 flash bios and ultra-bay. And 3 install the new 7260ac card. I also want to know what is going to happen if I turn the wifi on after flashing and leave the 2230 card in to install a 7260ac after a couple of days.
