Hello all, Just interest anyone seen this error message from Dell Diagnostic on the M17X-R2 0600:5127 Right I/O board cable not detected???? The funny thing is that anything works just fine on the right side all USBs, Express card socket, SDHC HD Audio too. There is two cable goes to the i/o-board from the systemboard one is a ribbon is only responsible for the express card socket (Tried if i remove it i lose the espresscard socket) LOL The other cable responsible for the HD audio, and the USB ports and SDHC socket if i remove that than windows does not report any audio device... and the ricoh memory controller also disappears Anything works perfect, no freezing or restarts than y the heck i got the error from dell diag... even checked the cables with multimeter and no broken lines. I know there is nothing wrong tried 2 defferent dell diag and both give me the same error. (NOT using the modded A10 Bios) Anyone a though ?

Not connected it goes up half way into the cable tube and ..... nothing I've removed both from my rotors... LOL

Yepp it is a brick literally.... LOL 230w 12v enormous in size and weight almost 2.2kg I got one exactly the same just with 8800M GTX which failed after 6 months and dell could not replace them. I loved her....

If you manage to get an old Dell XPS M1730 PSU, is exactly the same size as 2x the Alienware M17X-r2s PSU so theoretically you would be able to fit the two psu into the cover (I had XPS m1730)

Just arrived today... is working BTW my bios show only 0MB ??? But in windows Server 2008 R2 no problem I love it. I guess the bios is designed only for 8GB and cannot display a 2 digit number there??? Strange. Delivery only took 3 days i ordered on weekend... not bad.

just ordered a pair of Corsair 16GB (2X8GB) Memory Kit 1333MHz DDR3 SO-DIMM 204pin CMSO16GX3M2A1333C9 will arrive nxt tuesday so i able to write a review really exited. i using a lot of vmware with different os like mac os x 10.7 different linux distros... ect.

i not sure what laptop you using, but you should't crossflash your cards if is not dell. I did not have the option to test with ext display sence i'am traveling a lot. if you give me more info about what laptop you using and what driver i may able to help. If you flashed my mod vbios the OD in CCC will be displayed that was the whole point for me.5870 vbios you should not have any problem with the fans however with mod 6870 M vbios will goes hailwire...

I had that too. But OD is also stable if you rise the voltage to 1.15 donno y... :S It appears to me OD is require more juice. Guess is a driver issue, i did not switched to 11.7.

Nice one bro... I think we just need someone now to redesign the r2 gpu cooling or at least the heatsink MR 5870 is a HD 5770 so it can do more.

@ some point is have control but they are around 2000Rpm if i play they crank-up the speed. (if you remember when you boot, as soon win loads the driver ,fans are go silent ~1000Rpm) in my case they stady ~2000Rpm

Max i able to get is 870/1250Mhz @ 1.15v but is incredible hot, stable @ 850/1200Mhz @ 1.11v. (locks-up the GPU after a few hour of play) Or wth standard (M17X) cooling the best heat/performance is @ 830/1150Mhz @ 1.1v Only problem is the heatsink unit unable dissipate that much heat.... Be honestly is all just experiment,and i dont wan't to kill my GPU's before due time so stick @ 800/1100Mhz @1.1

Is a motherboard BIOS issue even with an original M7820 give black screen, but it boots to windows... So project cancelled. However is may works on m15x or m14x i have neither to experiment....

Yes it is right, 6870M actually a rebranded MR5870 with lower clock speed. So correcting 6870M (is only a VBIOS) on an actual 5870M card... AMD Radeon HD 6870M - Notebookcheck.net Tech You can try my bios or send me yours to mod. it may help. My vbios date is 06/01/10

Is a 6870M vbios i could make it happen on 5870 is well.

Just testing for now is looks stable... Performance increase depend from driver thought. 11.7, not sure worth it i got many rendering problem with Dragon Age II is too jumpy. however crysis 2 runs better... Think going back to 11.6 and test further. wait for 11.8 ...May end up buying a couple of 6970's LOL. Overdrive is worth it, since i activated OD my gpu fans runing at full speed so my gpu' are much colder now LOL

But the project revealed something for me so i thought why not give it a try???? So here i ended up AMD 6870M CrossfireX with a fancy Overdrive Support in it 860/1200Mhz at 1.05v Used different methods to unlock that, (BAGZZlash's RBE ) and HexWorkshop v6 to peace it together... After countless "trial and error" modd flash install-driver approach i ended up with a different project ....

They also used a bios, so from here is not a softmod anymore. If you google for the result of tests softmod is always a bad idea unless you dont have other option. I could also change the ID strings in the MR 5870 BIOS so it disguised as an FirePro, therefore we can install the FirePro/GL drivers. But it is clearly not a FirePro. By it's performance because, disabled units will not be anabled by the MR Bios. but thanks
