  1. I signed up for the beta but no word yet, thinking about getting a pcgamer april issue to get a beta key if I can find one that is. Will be great fun to finally play this game on a machine that can handle it. I didn't build my first gaming machine for myself until a few years after Planetside 1 came out. Tried to get the old game as its free to play right now but can't seem to find the game in a working state.
  2. PlanetSide 2 PC Game - Massive Combat on an Epic Scale I can't wait for this to come out, I played planetside for a few years and really loved flying the reavers if only I could fly a heli as easy in BF3.
  3. installed this just before attempting my video drivers. really don't notice anything different. Think it might boot a little faster but not much. Thinking about installing the unlocked version just to check it out.
  4. They need a to refresh the look a little, granted I love my M17x R3 and how it looks and strangly the feel but after 3 years its time to upgrade the "ALIEN" in the alienware line.
  5. No problem, its great fun and great way to get outside. might even meet some people doing the same thing. That main site has tons of info and I even know that groups get together and have fun doing stuff centered around geocaching.
  6. Well uninstalled all drivers and OSD, ran driver sweeper, installed Dells drivers for both video cards and it still doesn't work. Might try again soon but really hate how long it takes to do it all and I rather use my laptop then fight with drivers.
  7. Geocaching > Geocaching Live API this might help solve that request for you nicely.
  8. still been to lazy LOL, been playing BF3 and with the AMD 6990 working I just don't want to take the time to uninstall it all and make sure its all gone and then the fun of installing the AMD and intel drivers. Last time it worked it took me 3 hours to get the drivers installed right.
  9. This just sounds like an April Fools day joke to me, could be I am not totally awake yet or well Just sounds really strange to me.
  10. Thanks, I do know its a driver issue and need to wipe all video drivers and uninstall anything related. I do know that the software from factory didn't need a restart to switch so going to clean my system install DELL stuff and then put 12.3 over that since i know factory drivers give me about 20FPS less then the 8.93 version. not sure when I will do it as I feel like total crap today.
  11. just did a factory reset of my system and the switching works again. So going back to the backup I just made this morning. going to uninstall everything that has to do with the video then install it back from dells web site and then try the 12.3 drivers. once I have that done and if it works again going to make another backup and leave this thing alone LOL.
  12. Well I checked my drivers and they are currently the same drivers that were installed at the factory and the same when the switching worked. This backup I used only had software installed not even windows was updated when I made this backup. Going to use the recovery USB to put it back to factory and see if the issue remains. If it does then I know its more then just the drivers and then I have to decide if I want to deal with tech support or live with the issue.
  13. OK no matter what manner of switching I try I can't seem to go from the 6990 to the intel video for web surfing while unplugged. I have tried: 1. drivers for AMD think I tested about 4 2. uninstalled all video drivers and reinstalled Dell drivers 3. used device manager to disable AMD only to be stuck on intel video 4. my last attempt was to goto a full system backup when the switching work without issue. even with this (which wiped my HDD) I am still stuck without the system switching graphics over. So do I call dell? try new 12.3 drivers? could this be a hardware issue? I just don't get this and can't say I have heard or read anything like this. I have read about some drivers not working but not like this and there is 100% no chance I will send this laptop to anyplace to be repaired so I am limiting myself on my possible future options I know but no way I will except a used computer as replacement or damage from repair depot. (when I build gaming desktops, I fixed it or replaced with new nothing used and I expect nothing less from alienware and I would spend more then its worth to fight it) now switching graphics might not be a really big issue but its one of the key points in why i got this system and if it worked would be used daily. System is a few days over 3 months old with accidental warrenty over the normal one. Not that I think I broke it or anything LOL. temped to remove stock HDD and replace with my 750 HDD and do a USB recovery to factory and see if this issue is still there and if it is I guess that would tell me its a hardware issue. Granted this could be nite quill talkin but in theory it sounds right LMAO. well what do people think?
  14. video drivers and BIOS for my alien, busy day, just wish I felt better want to see what these things can do.
  15. will take a look, just read over my post, guess being sick is taking the adventure out of me lol. I downloaded the file and will see what happens. maybe tomorrow I will install it and see.
  16. well I know my alien can handle what ever i need to do, have not messed with unix or linux much besides besides basic user stuff and what ever linux distro Back track is. when I get the software package from ITT tech will start a post about the stuff I am doing and the VM stuff they have me do. I know i have to do some type of video recording of stuff I do and will post links to my youtube if people are interested. Won't be starting for another month while my grants get sorted out.
  17. OK its all stuff I don't get into really with system then. I can stick with the stock bios then. Its funny when I had systems that cost 20% of this one I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade the bios now that it cost so much I am a little worried to try it LOL
  18. is it just stuff to tweak the system or anything really cool unlocked? Thinking about upgrading my bios but not sure I really need to since everything but graphic switching is working top notch.
  19. I just loaded a win 7 and win 2000 server, just practice for school. Nothing serious right now until school start up for me. Then not sure what OS I will have to load since its a cyber security course so things could get interesting.
  20. Can't wait for the update, lots of stuff being fixed that I use and wanted to see changed got fixed.
  21. so it wouldn't be safe for me to run my M17x R3 plug in and battery removed? I used to do just that on an older machine I had since the battery had a port for charging outside the laptop.
  22. Have been messing around with VMware and created 2 virtual machines and had both up and running and was seriously impressed that overall the machine didn't really feel like I was pushing it to hard. Have had my R3 for about 3 months now and still finding that is has more power then any of my personal machines ever dreamed of having.
  23. Have been messing around with drivers and seeing what I can get better performance out of my alien. I was messing around with the myfi stuff and upgraded the drivers to make it work better and found that when I put the machine to sleep or off the WiFi would take up to 2 minutes to connect. So not using the myfi stuff and I went back to dells drivers and the wifi works great now. the myfi thing still works just some settings were lost that I liked. Really wish I had started getting alienware computers long before this.
