  1. Hey Prema, ive got a P151SM1B and the turbo fan keeps kicking in at 70+ degrees celsius (making it too loud to do anything), and the laptop always hits 70+ degrees celsius very quickly on default core clocks. The turbo fan wont turn off either with fn + 1 (it slows down a bit, then goes back to 100%). Any chance your bios mod will be able to help?
  2. OK if i understand it correctly, the main thing this bios mod does is allow you to have the card run at whatever speed you want (within OC limits obviously) without the boost interferring? Cant you do the same thing with a nvidia inspector .bat file?
  3. What's the clevo control center? Ive never heard of this before
  4. Okay, but is it normal not to see any reduction in temps from default voltage to -50?
  5. I mean how did you access and read the values from the vbios? Which software did you use for that? I tried to OC the core clock with msi afterburner but it wont budge from 705.5 mhz....
  6. Do all GTX 770Ms have a core clock of 705.5 mhz or just clevo ones? Does this mean clevo GTX 770Ms were downclocked? It's listed with a core clock of 811 : GeForce GTX 770M | Specifications | GeForce How do you check the vbios? And is there any way to force the turbo boost to happen? Or just get it to run at higher than 705.5 mhz....
  7. Does it run at full speed in, say, civilization 5 or vindictus? I'm still not seeing how this is a turbo boost issue when the base core is 811 mhz?
  8. But the GTX 770M is listed as having a core clock of 811 mhz on the nvidia site? A nvidia rep confirmed that it is supposed to have a base core clock of 811 mhz. If i run furmark it actually goes up to 865 mhz, which i suppose is 811 base core + boost. Is there any way to force the boost to occur? I know it will occur in furmark for one thing....just not with most of my games. Temps dont even exceed 50 degrees when i play, it cant be overheating.
  9. Hey guys, one question about undervolting.... How do you test this for stability? Let's say i undervolt a CPU and cache by too much. Laptop crashes. Will i be able to get back into windows to undo the voltage changes? Or will it just crash when trying to get back into windows? How do you reset voltage if this happens?I t I tried setting cache and multipliers to 24x, and CPU/Cache voltage to -50. However i did not notice any temperature improvements at all...with just web browsing, the core temps eventually hit 50 degrees celsius, which caused the fans to kick in.
  10. I noticed that my GPU will only run at a max core clock of 705.5 mhz for most games, evne though power management for the card is set to "prefer maximum performance". Nvidia support says that max performance will make the card run at full speed all the time, which is clearly not happening here. They say that this is a VBIOS issue that only the laptop manufacturer can resolve. Does anyone with a GTX 770M on a clevo laptop experience this? This doesn't happen for all games, just most of them.
  11. I'm confused, you need the EC to modify the BIOS. Okay. Isnt the EC a software like the BIOS? That every clevo laptop has?
  12. Uh....but you told me you were able to modify the fan profiles in your custom BIOS? Also just had another idea, what about undervolting the CPU so the temps stay a lot lower, which means the fan would hopefully not activate when under no/light load?
  13. You can't set it to the turbo boost speeds? That means you can only get it to run at 100% of the base speed (e.g. if the processor is rated for 2.4-3.4 ghz, it can only run at 2.4?) Unless i'm misunderstanding what turbo boost does exactly... I was reading a thread on throttle stop and it said that if you set the multiplier to one more than the default it goes to turbo boost mode? Prema : Oh okay. What do you mean by hardcoding?
  14. Well...that wont work because it's the CPU fan that is doing this, not the GPU. The GPU is asleep by default as the laptop uses the integrated graphics. I was hoping to get Prema to respond to see if theres a way to edit the fan profiles on his custom bios/EC.... Alternatively i suppose i could try forcing the processor to run full speed so that it runs hotter even when under no or light load. Any ideas on how to do that? But that will probably shorten the processor life right?
  15. The problem is not the fans being on. A steady hum is expected when under load. The problem is that the fans are completely off by default, but they keep turning on every minute or so. When that happens, the fans rev up and it generates a lot more noise in the first few seconds. This is a problem when the fans are set to start at 50 degrees celsius but the idle temp is 47. Im pretty sure most laptop manufacturers do not have this problem. You know when you start a car, the engine is a lot more noisy for the first few seconds then it settles into a hum? It's like that.
  16. See : http://forum.techinferno.com/clevo-sager/3809-clevo-known-fan-noise-issues.html Known issue with clevo laptops. Bad fan profiles. The fan will keep turning on/off instead of remaining at a steady speed.
  17. I was told by a retailer tech that no other fans would be able to fit onto my P151EM1B. True/False? Fan keeps turning on/off and i was just wondering if theres any way to fix that by changing the fan, adding a fan controller, stuff like that....
  18. I sent the laptop back to the retailer, only for them to discover that this behaviour is "Normal". Now they want to send the laptop back. From what they tell me, the EC fan table is setup so that the fans will turn on when one of the cores reach 50 degrees and turn off once the cores are back down to 40 degrees. This was occuring even when i was doing nothing more intensive than reading a PDF file from a clean boot. How did you guys upgrade to the latest stock bios? I was told clevo does not make bios updates publically available nor do they seem to have any on their website (IIRC). Besides, i already have the latest stock BIOS.... Prema's bios mod unfortunately didn't solve the problem. Can anyone think of anything that may help? Either hardware or software.... How do you check a particular EC fan table to see what fan profile it has? Okay so...in other words, i only need to do FN+1 twice, one time, and the GPU fan will be OFF everytime when the card goes to sleep after that? Okay tried to PM Prema, but i can't access the PM system for some reason, so i might as well post here. Prema, can you tell us what values the fan profile for your custom P151EM1 BIOS/EC is set to? Also would it be possible for a end user to modify said values? If yes, what are the steps involved?
  19. Am i supposed to press this twice everytime i want the GPU fan to shut down or is this an automatic thing? Calibre : Even with the prema bios my CPU fan keeps spinning up...like every minute (see : )
  20. The only virus scanner i have is microsoft security essentials, so i doubt thats it. I do notice the occasional 5-10% CPU spike though. Thermal grease is diamond carat i believe. I dont think i can change it without voiding warranty.... Okay ive got the prema bios installed. Helps a bit, but not much. Is there any way i can contact Prema other than his blog? Also noticed that the GPU fan will not shut down after closing a 3d application. The gpu fan will keep blowing for hours and hours non stop. Only way to stop it seems to be to shut down/restart/hibernate the laptop, or start up a program like GPU-Z. Has anyone noticed this happening with any clevo notebooks before?
  21. Ive got a Horize P151EM1B, which is basically a contract built Clevo P151EM1. The fan noise from both the CPU and GPU are killing me. Apparently this is due to bad fan profiles? Are there any solutions at all? 1.CPU keeps revving up to very loud speeds then revving down again. This happens for a few seconds every few minutes, even when im doing nothing but web browsing. 2.GPU fan (GTX 670MX) is REALLY loud when running any 3d application. Ive checked the temps and neither the CPU nor GPU are overheating... I've found at least one other guy who has a similar issue. Is Clevo known for having noisy fans or did i just get a lemon? The retailer is suggesting that i send it back to be checked, but its going to cost a lot (heavy notebook + box) and they will probably tell me its "normal" or something.
