Optimus now works in Win10 using 361.75 driver

Recommended Posts

I've read accounts that EXP GDC does not work with windows 10 at all or that it only works when using an external monitor.

Can anyone comment on whether it will work with windows 10 and also if it work with the internal monitor?

Additionally, is there any advantage of getting EGPU Setup 1.30?

If it only works when using an external monitor as the primary display device, then it essentially doesn't work at all, according to the thread's tagline.

Optimus is described as having PCI-e 1.2x compressed links, along with being able to use the internal display. If you don't have one, you almost certainly don't have the other.

I use a PE4C 3.0 and have the experience that you describe. While the eGPU does work, it only works on an external monitor.

Furthermore, it automatically attempts to negotiate PCI-e Gen 2, which crashes the computer upon doing anything significant, because my ExpressCard and eGPU combination only support Gen 1.

So yes, there is value in using Nando's Chainloader, because it allows you to forcibly negotiate the connection to Gen 1 if necessary.

      Hi guys,

I'm sorry for making another thread just for this but I really wanted to pick your brains on this!

I have an m15x with a 770m running windows 7 and everything works. Rock. Solid. I'm pretty happy with it. Since windows 7 is on it's way out, I would like to upgrade to windows 10. Now I've looked into it before and had a really hard time getting the 770m to behave nicely and had all these issues with green/yellow/pink screens and I remember it being a miracle I got it to work on 7 as good as it does.

My question is how well does the 970m install vs the 770m - particularly on windows 10? I would buy it in a heartbeat if it makes the install less tedious with the colored screens and all that. Especially if all the functions work on it! I have been searching the internet and I cannot find nearly as many problems with the 970m as I could with the 770m, or am I just  not looking in the right places?

      Thanks a million!

Hello. I'm currently running windows 10 on bios version 1.00 and want to upgrade to 1.03 but cannot boot Ms dos flash in uefi. There is no option to enable Legacy mode and the option to disable uefi in bios is greed out. When I try booting from flash in bios, it shows black screen and returns back to bios screen. My rig is a p157sm. Any help will be appreciated as I'm looking to install prema bios mod.

      Hello

My M18XR2 was working on Windows 10 with a 880M.
Last week, I reinstalled my system, and I couldn't get nvidia driver working...
I took the last installed modified driver, and even downloaded latest version, modified it again, nothing to do, I have same error : nvidia installation failed.
I only install the graphic driver too, it fail. The screen goes black, then light again, and it fail...
Do someone have an idea how to fix this probleme ?
      Thank you

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had ever figured out if windows 10 will work with the GTX 770m on the M15x (bios A09). I've found a few forum posts about it and they all end up off topic. Ive tried a few different driver versions but every single one ends up green/pink/white screening when I enable the IDT sound device in device manager and through driver setup. It is stable if I don't have the device enabled. Anyone have any advice?

EDIT: SOLUTION on my 4th post.

      Hi all,

I just wanted to know if anyone found a fix for the cpu idle bug without hibernating.
First of all, I made my setup in 2015 and I just used an external monitor since at the time making it work with optimus having a dgpu was unknown. Recently I read that disabling the dgpu was an option so I quickly got "up to date" reading the new stuff, but I might have missed something. Keeping that in mind:
I have a MBPr Late 2013 (GT750M dgpu) with an Akitio Thunder Box, with a dell power supply (which I always thought it might not be enough because I had to limit the power with Afterburner to 80% so it wouldn't shut down when playing a few hours) and an Nvidia GTX970 (KFA 4GB).
Since I was using a Win 7 on Bootcamp/BIOS I decided to start from scratch: got a Win 10 EFI installed, got reFind so I could activate the visibility of the Iris igpu, and although it seems to be much more buggy, got to run the system with the egpu. Then disabled the dgpu on the device manager, used the switch-gpu bat file as admin to get the igpu as main, so far so good. Shut down, Boot.
I get to the point where I basically have the egpu working and I tried running Tomb Raider's benchmark (what I had at hand) and it was going smoothly (which wouldn't be like that with the iris or dgpu). Also, looking at msi afterburner my egpu was at 100%.

The ONLY thing that I can't by any means get to work is to not have the CPU idle crazy load. I get around 25-30% of CPU load and if I try to hibernate the system it... well it goes to hell, haha.
The MBP seems to hibernate (sleep/shutdown black, fans out) but the egpu is still on with the fans (doesn't really hibernate), and from there its impossible to make it run. Pressing any button, alt, power, whatever, it tries to wake up/power on for a moment, but it simply can't finish, just black screen with the fans turning on. The only way to shut it down is to hold the power button. And after that it basically locks there and becomes even difficult to boot again, I actually have to press alt, go back to osx, reinstall refind - since it no longer appears with it trying to wake up from hibernation- run windows efi and quickly press shift+f8 to run in safe mode and then boot correctly (and again with the cpu load).

I have to say that even when working, my macbook pro doesn't consistently boot with the egpu via thunderbolt2, with any combination (wait to plug the cable, have it powered on, off, preboot, when starting windows, etc.) it just seems to randomly work. It used to work a bit better before refind, though, but never consistently (don't know if that has changed in the past years).

So... any ideas of how to get that cpu load off? Or to make hibernation work?
Oh, as a note, I read that when you disable the dgpu and use the switchgpu script you can control the screen brightness again, but I just have it locked to the max. The control osd appears and moves but it doesn't actually change. I don't care about it but I thought it might give a hint of something not done properly?

Many thanks to whoever can give me any ideas!!!

EDIT: Reduced part of the cpu idle from known w10 small stuff but the main bug is still there, about 15%)
