M18x: Is the nVidia GTX 580M the reason for the delayed release? (speculation)

Recommended Posts

Do you believe that Dell is trying to include the 580M instead of the 485M and therefore delaying the release?

If that's the reason, then I wouldn't mind the waiting.

I cant find (and I have been looking) any information on the 580m anywhere. So, I dont think this is the case. The 485m was only recently released too and could easily have been called the 580m.

Do you have any info on what the 580m could be?

I really, really hope so :D

It could also explain the top graphics choice being $900 extra.

And hopefully provide a clear-cut performance leader (for now).

Nice find Stam, that's great the 500 series will improve upon the 400 series. Maybe it's is going to be released with M18x so how would it go? What would be greater 485m, 580M or AMD 6970M? Throw crossfire and SLI in and how does that work. Could a theoretical 580M be in SLI in a laptop? Or is 485M the highest mobile nvidia Sli config? What would a 580M take in wattage? I think there is something holding the M18x's release back for sure. Could be trying to work a agreement on some other nice hardware cheaper. If 6970M crossfire stays $900 and they don't have an equivalent Nvidia offering then they may not see the responce they want from the public.

I don't see the 580M GTX as the reason for the delay. I think it's because of issues they had with the SLi bridge like hardware heaven reported in their review.

The 580M had Sli issues... hmmm Crossfire and SLi have been out for awhile now and both company's should now show no problem implementing those technologies but also improving upon their function so that we only see performance boosts and better dependability in future examples of multi gpu setups.

I have spent a little time in the past few days looking around this site. I would love for someone to point me in the right direction to a forum that has information that could help me out with my problem.
      I have a:
      Alienware M17XR3
      Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
      Intel I7-2820QM 2.3
      Bios InsydeH20 Version 1.0 A12
      NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
      (4x) 4 GB Ram
      samsung 2.5" 256 SSD (SATA3.0Gbps)
It has been an amazing machine for the last 10+ years. Minor issues, nothing that an Alien Respawn could not fix, till now! On battery power it works just perfect.  Then I plug it in and it's all OK until I try to do anything, and then the screen goes white. The screen sometimes goes yellow, sometimes blue, but mostly white screen. It will do nothing until I do a hard reset (holding the power button till it turns off and turn it back on) with the power unplugged.  If the power is not unplugged then it will go through boot up to windows swirling dots then go white again. If I plug it in and do nothing I can charge it, unplug and continue what i was doing. I have tried a lot of solutions bouncing around the internet, and thought I was having a DC Jack connection issue (replaced the ac/dc power adapter, then the motherboard). I get a better connection now but with the same white screen result. I stumbled into this forum and I'm hoping to find solutions to my issues.  Then upgrade like so many others have.
Any ideas, comments or suggestions welcome.
      Thank you in advance!

      NVIDIA 'Maxwell' VBIOS mods
Here you find modified VBIOS versions for the mobile parts of the Nvidia 'Maxwell' series.
The VBIOS versions in this post are tweaked for performance and versatility. You'll get almost complete control over the performance parameters of your GPU.
      List of available VBIOS mods:
      Nvidia GTX 970m - 'OC edition' rev0 - >> 6 GB Version << - modified by @johnksss & svl7 -> see attachments Nvidia GTX 980m - 'OC edition' rev0 - >> 8 GB Version << - modified by @johnksss & svl7 -> see attachments
Screenshot demonstrating the capabilities of the 970m versions:

      >> Read the instructions carefully before flashing! <<
If anything is unclear after reading or if you have additional remarks, please post in the thread.
      - Go to the device manager -> 'Display Adapters' -> chooser your GPU, right click on it and choose disable
      - Flash the VBIOS with mnvflash, a modified version of nvflash (see attachments). Here are detailed instructions for nvflash in case you aren't familiar with it.
      - After the flashing is done: Enable the GPU once again in the device manager.
      - Reboot
Do NOT use driver 347.09, it's broken and useless and won't allow you to overclock, even with the stock firmware.
Don't distribute the files hosted here outside of Tech|Inferno. Don't modify the files you download here.
Donation link in case you want to buy me a beer

      Thanks and cheers!

I have tried to update nvidia drivers of my notebook ge72vr6rf apache pro. The only drivers that works are the ones provided by the msi. The problem is that they haven't updated those since 2016 and I can't play newer games.
Some say you need to mod your 1060 drivers, which I have no idea how to some says you need to update the flags in ini files. So please help me
      Thanks for your time.
