After 8970M installation hibernation does not work

POWER

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

I changed my GPU in my Clevo P170EM from a Nvidia 675MX to a AMD 8970M. Everything is working perfect expect the hibernation. If I do a normal restart I have no problems!

But everything step after step

I unistalled the nvidia driver, restarted my computer, made a register clean and shut him down, changed to gpus and boot into Win 8.1, installed the AMD Driver (14.4 Mobility WHQL) and restarted my computer again.

I tryed a Bios reset to factory settings, a manuel register clean and a new installation of newer chipset driver. The funny thing is that the hibernation works if there is not so much time between the new boot! So if I only shut the computer down for 10 mins everything works but If I wait 2 hours the computer will try to start and before the bios screen appears the computer shut down and start again after maybe 3 seconds. The big problem is that after this crazy boot the keyboard backlight doesnt work and that that the AMD driver says that no card has been found. In the device manager is only a yellow triangle next to the HD 4000.

I hope you can help me! :tan: Just to let you know...after this gpu exchange there is still the nvidia settings entry in the windows 8.1 system control but if I click on that it says that no exe has been found.

Update:

I noticed now that this problem also happens when I shut dow my computer normaly and disconnect it from the power for a longer time (overnight). So the Laptop he tries to boot, after 2-3 sec ,before the boot screen appaers, he shut down and will start again after a few seconds.

Is thats maybe a bios problem? Maybe the 8970M works only with the Prem Mod Bios in a P170EM?

Prema please help me! Please!

I have never gotten switching from Nvidia to AMD, or AMD to Nvidia to ever work right without reinstalling windows. I spent hours trying to clean out old drivers. You actually made it further than me. I could never get the "new" card to ever render.

Sounds llike hard work...but why can I not even see the boot screen after a normal shut down?

All this make me feel that the card is wont accept by my bios very well (just an idea beacuse the computer shut down before the bios screen appears). Or what is your meaning? :-)

Thank you for your help ... but I am pretty sure that I am using the normal bios.:numbness:

This is how my Bios screen looks:

And this how my menu looks (without the Prema Mod stuff):

PREMA BIOS MOD Review

PS: For more background here what I tried today: I uninstalled all AMD stuff and wanted to test the old nvidia 675MX but the desktop "reloaded" every time with the card so I tried to start the laptop without any graphics card. I thought the HD 4000 should be enough but on the desktop the computer starts to beep very loud and after some time the beeps were quieter. So I puted the 8970M back in and everything worked.

Is that a normal behavior? The beeps I mean?

Looks like a Legacy non win 8 mode installation.

We could try a different vB, but you will need to install Windows fresh anyway.

If you use Windows 8 then make sure to select Win 8 UEFI mode in BIOS before installation this time.

A legacy non win 8 mode? I mean...it looks like your prema mod bios but without these tuning stuff. :-) How can I set UEFI mod in Bios?

I will do a clean installation on wednesday ( now its too late and tomorrow I have to save a lot of stuff ^^)

My 8970M uses this vBios (picture of my card in this thread):

New informations:

I had now a look into the devce manager (after this boot failure) and ..... it shows only the Intel HD4000 with a yellow triangle and a VGA-Standard-Controller. After the Boot Hydra-Vision pops up with a message that there is no ATI driver traceable.

When I have a closer look at VGA-Controller and search for new hardware...windows recognizes it as the 8970M without problems.

When Ihave a look at the Intel HD4000...windows says error code 43 (Here the original german wording: Dieses Gerät wurde angehalten, weil es Fehler gemeldet hat. (Code 43))

Good news? :burn_joss_stick:
