ruggb
A closed thread on batteries indicated that not fully charging a LI battery increases the battery life.I never read that before. I am aware that for long term storage LI batteries should only be left at about 50% not 100%.I wrote an "instructable" about rejuvenating LI laptop batteries by resetting the controller CPU in the battery.Save $$$, Get A Like New Laptop (or other) Lithium Battery Pack For FREE!I have done this to a number of batteries and milked more life, though for some batteries the effort may not be worth the reward. My question: is the actual mechanism causing the shorter life a chemical thing when fully charging the battery or a controller thing (that is mitigated with a reset)? czaderak
It's a chemical thingLi-ion does not need to be fully charged, as is the case with lead acid, nor is it desirable to do so. In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because high voltages stresses the battery.Source: Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries
flyboynm
Yeah, I learned about this the hard way. My Clevo P157SM has a 26% wear after 1.5 years of ownership. That # is according to hwinfo.
