Need Help with Power Supply Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hello I recently upgraded my MSI GX640 laptop with an AMD 7970m and Intel i7 920xm. I am currently using a 180W power supply, but it is not sufficing when I overclock my 920xm. When I overclock my 920xm to 3GHz on all threads and start gaming, my power supply will shut down and stop working until I unplug it from the wall and then plug it back in. My 7970m is also overclocked to 936/1500MHz. So I am thinking that I need an even more powerful power supply for my notebook.

The specs of my current power supply are the following:

Input: 100-240V ~ 50-60Hz x 2.5A

Output: 19V x 9.5A = 180W

Connector size: 5x2.5mm

I am looking at a power supply that has the following specs:

Input: 100-240V ~ 50-60Hz x 4A

Output: 19.5V x 11.8A = 230W

Connector size: 5x2.5mm

Here is a link to the product that I am looking at: Original For msi 19.5v 12.2a 5.5*2.5mm 230W Computer adapter laptop adapter-in Laptop Adapter from Computer & Networking on Aliexpress.com

I would like to know if it would be safe to use this power supply, and if not, what should I do because I can't find a third party power supply anywhere else. Thank you!
