  1. Hello! I've found that Lenovo only has one BIOS (contrary to the popular belief), because HM76 doesn't have hardware RAID. Lenovo users with stock SSD+HDD have Intel Rapid Storage driver installed and the manager software barely configured. Not sure how well it performs, since I wasn't able to found any feedback from a user with such configuration. The confusion around SSD caching in Y580/Y500 (same chipset) is big, since there are several technologies involved. There are Intel Rapid Storage, Lenovo RapidDrive, Lenovo Expresscache, Lenovo RapidBoot and Intel Rapid Start. (Some may not be avaible on HM76) I have no idea which are differences beetween them or how to configure any of them. It would be nice to understand how to use aany of them with my 32GB SSD. Pretty confused ... Thank you !
  2. Well, it's a popular belief over the net. But I think this is not happening, since HM76 doesn't support RAID by hardware, so this RST technology is implemented via software in some way. Thanks and sorry for confusion....
  3. Hello! I have one question for svl7: Enabling RST on the mSATA drive requires configuring the SATA PCH to RAID through the system BIOS, a function that Lenovo apparently does not allow on the Y580. Such a setup is likely done at OEM, meaning end-users will not be able to install an mSATA drive for use as RST system cache. Do you think it's true that there are two types of BIOS out there, one for units with stock SSD and another for units without it? Even if you buy a SSD and install it afterwards, it will only work as a separate drive and cannot be used for RST due BIOS limitation. Thanks!
  4. HM76 actually is compatible with RST (Proof at last line: Intel ARK) So, full RST support is limited by Lenovo BIOS.
  5. Hello! I'd like to install a small, inexpensive SSD as a cache for stock 1TB HD of my Y580. The problem is that I can't put together all the information in order to understand how to set it up. Facts: - HM76 supports RST (info via Intel ARK), but - RST needs RAID mode activated in BIOS, which - default Y580 doesn't have, but - some versions of Y580 are sold with small SSDs for caching purposes. Conclusion: caching is supported, but using strange configuration, such as software RAID. Thoughts: - If RST is supported by hardware, why Smart Response Technology isn't ? - What is Lenovo RapidDrive ? - What is ExpressCache ? - If caching is configured in some stock Y580s, how it behaves in Linux or multiboot scenario? (if supported) Can anyone provide a comprehensive guide ? It's would be nice to clarify this questions once and for all... Thank you very much !
  6. Hello. Anyone able to get the Intel Rapid Storage Technology working ? It was mentioned briefly on previous posts. It seems like Lenovo is using some sort of software RAID. But the process isn't very clear. - HM76 chipset supports RST (via intel ark info) - But there are no RAID option at original BIOS. - Modified BIOS shows a RAID option, but not like one of chipset modes. I just want to buy a small, cheap SSD and use it for caching the HD. Any ideas ?
  7. Yes, your BIOS is popular on ideapad.it168.com. I've been searching for posts related to installation of third antenna and accidentally found out some appearences of some modified BIOS with references to this post... Congratulations, BTW ! One question, what are the improvements of the V8.01 BIOS ? Seems like late production models with WIN8 are shipped with it but I wasn't able to find out the list of improvements since the V2.07. Anyway Lenovo should post it at official support page soon. Thanks!
  8. Hello! I updated my mid-december manufactured M772RGE (german localized Y580, purchased at amazon.de) with your unlocked BIOS v2.0.7. It worked flawlessly ! Afterwards I activated VT-x in BIOS options, but got one BSOD starting Android emulator. The reason was a HAXM-related issue. After reinstalling HAXM all worked perfectly without any issues so far. My congratulations to all members involved and particularly to svl7. ... Looking forward to install an AR9380 with 3rd antenna mod recently purchased on ebay ... Thank you all for the hard work !
