  1. This is how far I've got, waiting for connector cable to come before I solder.Bixpower 6 ft DC Power Cable 16AWG with 5 5 x 2 5mm Male to Female Connectors | eBay Saves my original power-supply. Do I solder both black cables together or is one of them earth? In which case the green cable can be soldered to it? Thanks for your help.
  2. I haven't got the card yet, so point 5 was only speculation and it's the only thing that is related to GPU apart from power-supply. For me the cpu upgrade was well worth it, but, that's personal preference. On the otherhand, I have now done 1,2,3 (changed back to IC diamond) which are related to my cpu upgrade and 6 (power-supply) which I just received today and will be modding for full 330watts. As for the GTX980m itself, if I successfully mod the power-supply, then, I'll get it. See how it goes. Spent £35 on tools just to do the power-supply. Wish me luck!

  4. Ok, first-off we use MXM3.0b mobile graphics cards which IS upgradable. 2nd, with these kind of laptops the cpu is removable and so is the memory for full upgrading/maintenance. As for what's available, well, just do some research on Intel mobile Ivy Bridge and Haswell CPU's. Then check this for gfx options available (mainly high-end store). Eurocom VGA

  6. Having installed my 3920xm along with new all-copper heatsink I'm finding my temps to be higher than expected with core 1 giving a glimpse of nice low-temps if it was sitting flush. Will have to lap the heatsink and see if temps improve. UPDATE: After running for a week with the Coolaboratory Liquid metal pads (2 layer metal on cpu, then, 0.2 copper, 1 layer metal under heat-sink, this was best after 4 installs) and seeing upto 28% throttling at standard settings with temps upto 104c while gaming I decided to try paste again. Luckily, I had IC Diamond 24 carat I'd totally forgotten about. Using ICD 24, my max cpu temps with both Kombuster running cpu burner and furmark together is only 85c with cpu at 4Ghz and 100% utilization. Max during gaming is 93c on 2nd core. Big difference of around 20c+ plus now my system is stable with cpu oc @ 4Ghz. For non-overclocking cpu (like my old 3610qm) liquid metal pads works great. From my own testing I would recommend paste especially if overclocking as it's more reliable and given the heat-sink imperfections. 4 different installs (and 2 packs of metal pads = waste of money) all gave different (higher than expected temp) results with 3920xm and brand new full-copper heatsink.
  7. 1st part of my upgrade is done...3920xm+copper cooler. In intel ETU I have limited the wattage to 65w in turbo mode. The default was 85w and I think my system was unstable. Temps are up with this cpu installed, inc gfx. 2nd and 3rd core run hotter than 1st and 4th. 1st core is consistently cooler than the rest. For music production I can definitely see the benefit straight away as a previously struggling project can now run with all fx on. For gaming less so. Without overclocking 680m it seems this gfx is already pretty maxed out, no major changes in 3dmark scores. Finally, 4Ghz (3991mhz) works with all core multipliers set to 40x...even with the 65watt limit. Update: It seems heat is an issue. On boot cpu temps can go upto 104c. Cpu will throttle up and down during gaming due to heat. Idle temps of 40c~. Browsing and watching vids; Minimum: 36c 44c 40c 45c Maximum: 56c 72c 83c 82c I've tried a couple of heatsink + metalpad re-installs and there's always 2 cores hotter than the rest. Right now my 1st is getting excellent temps, but, 3rd and 4th not so good. The system does deal quite well with the heat by smooth throttling. Due to heat there's no point oc 680m. I recommend skipping upgrading cpu (or go for 45w) and going straight for 980m. At current 45w setting for Boost Power Max my 3920xm does around 3.7Ghz. Roughly 600mhz more than 3610qm, but, no gpu oc means performance isn't massively improved unless game has a lot more cpu stuff going-on. CSGO smoke is looking smoother than before XD
  8. Menko2, as an early user I think some of those oc results might be from yourself Try slowly upping core first, find max and then come down a bit (20-30mhz) and start upping memory. You will find more benefit (significant fps increase) with core-speed increases, but, go slowly. You need to balance your power-supply with overclock before system auto throttles due to heat or shuts-down power-supply. Also, don't forget you can also down-clock memory for higher core clock-speeds for maximum scores.
  9. That's probably because even though we can now use 980m; it's still an expensive upgrade. Baring in-mind those who are doing their research before doing it like me and things needed; 1. Those who do this will want to pair it with best cpu. I chose 3920xm £283 used. 2. With new cpu I also bought full copper heat-sink £56 3. Coolaboratory liquid metal pads for laptop kit £20 4. GTX 980m 8GB is around £600+ full eurocom kit. 5. Thermal pads for 980m (unknown variable until I got card). 6. Power-supply. Need 230watt to be on the safe side. Modded power-supplies seems to be the only way right now. Cost is approx. another £100 + 1x now useless 180watt power-supply. Upgrading from 3610qm + 680m 4gb to 3920xm + 980m costs over £1100. Those lucky enough to have one of the better cpus already will only have to get the 980m. For an additional £300-400 you can actually buy a whole new system so I guess many p150em users are finding it very hard to justify the expense.

  11. That's some critical info re: wattage, thanks! So without overclocking it looks like 980m is no problem and if you're using 680m (like me) then it's very similar in usage. My eventual setup will be 3920xm and 980m. Should just about scrap by with the 180watt power-supply. Clevo should make a better 240watt minimum power-supply for p150em. I'm not liking the cable-ends swapping method. Has anyone found a source for these for modding power supply?
  12. I just got my delivery of the laptop Coolaboratry pack. Ordered it before I saw your reply. I tested on cpu first (3610qm) and it seemed to work as intended. Then, I did my gpu (gtx680m 4gb) which had as5 on it and the difference is amazing. MSI Kombuster Furmark was making the gpu throttle-down to around 660mhz~ core after a few mins. Now it will run it constant at around 70-72C. For me that's over 15c+ difference. The top-end is unknown as before it would touch 89-90c and drop core speed. I haven't had to go through removing it yet, but, the instructions say it should peel off. Minus the removal experience, I'd have to say this is an awesome product with no mess so far. Just cut to size, metal, then 0.1mm copper, then, metal. Works great, highly recommended. (so far).
  13. Do you recommend them? I see the install process is really simple, just got to burn-in properly which isn't a problem with gpu. I've been looking at the laptop pack, will this be sufficient for doing both cpu and gpu? or do I need to get separate gpu pads? thanks in advance!
  14. Has anyone tried Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad on a high-end gpu like GTX680m? I've looked at benchmarks and it seems to be the best.
  15. Improved cooling system, more usb sockets, less-noisy higher-quality and higher-wattage power-supply for 15", if only 2 sticks of ram is installed, then, install under keyboard by default. Last, but, not least I'd like to see either lid/lcd-free version or detachable screen so we can use these systems like a commodore 64/Amiga.
  16. I'm very interested to hear from Clevo P150em owners who managed to upgrade from GTX680m to GTX980m using eurocom kit. Overclocking? Throttling?
