It worked! I haven't gone through the rest of the steps yet but with the new fix, I finally got the backup working. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. EDIT: Followed the rest of the steps and everything worked perfectly. Happy to say I'm posting this while connected to WiFi on a 5GHz band thanks to my now unlocked bios. Thanks again, svl7.

Thanks for the quick reply. I seem to be getting the same error in the info.txt: Intel (R) Flash Programming Tool. Version: 8.0.10.1464 Copyright (c) 2007 - 2012, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved. Platform: Intel(R) HM76 Express Chipset Reading HSFSTS register... Flash Descriptor: Valid --- Flash Devices Found --- Error 103: There are no supported SPI flash devices installed. Please check connectivity and orientation of SPI flash device. EDIT: Also, I don't know if this matters or not since there's a fixed version but this is what I get when using the original fparts file: Intel (R) Flash Programming Tool. Version: 8.0.10.1464 Copyright (c) 2007 - 2012, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved. Platform: Intel(R) HM76 Express Chipset Reading HSFSTS register... Ok, I've read the original post over and over again and can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. When trying to backup my bios, I got the 104 error a few others have mentioned so I replaced the fparts file with the one found in the fix zip but now I'm getting the following error: "Error 103: There are no supported SPI flash devices installed. Please check connectivity and orientation of SPI flash device." Whether I use the backup.bat or attempt to backup via command prompt, I always get the error. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. If it matters, I'm on a Y500 with bios version 1.05.

Need advice for gaming notebook
Tljx replied to cloudstrife's question in What Notebook Best Fits My Needs?
I second the recommendation on the Asus G75VW-BBK5 (or any other version of the G75VW, for that matter). It's got a 3rd gen i7, a GPU that can handle most games on high, and, one of my favorite features, dual hard drive bays so there's room for a small capacity SSD for the OS in addition to a larger capacity traditional hard drive for storage. It's frequently on sale too. I got mine refurbished from Best Buy for around $750 after tax a few weeks ago. This deal was uncommonly low but I wouldn't be surprised if I see it pop up on one of the popular deal sites for under $900 again in the near future.
