  1. Oh well, I cannot really make good use of it because temps hit 96+ on stock cooling since the power draw is close to that of a 2920qm . It even goes up to 75W peak becuase I cannot adjust multipliers so it doesnt want more. It does seem unlocked power though.
  2. A04 unlocked as well, in the unlocked bios page that cpu power settings disable turbo MSR lock its near the bottom and then try. Remember I have the 2760qm so my multi will be a bit higher but see if you can get the unlocked power draw in TS after resuming from sleep.
  3. Nah I am getting a full 3.2 on turbo and longer turbos after sleep. That was just a random screenshot. My benchmark scores for my cpu are exactly where they should be and temps as well before and after sleep but benches higher after sleep, above the normal benches. So weird but after sleep it seems the hard power limit locks for the cpu are being bypassed. Unclewebb and me discussed this and he said this behavior might be on the verge of some discovery to bypass the hard limit power locks.
  4. check out how many watts I can get on intel burn test AFTER sleep. This is a 2760qm remember Before Sleep it is locked to the usual 58-59W. Temps do reflect the increase in watts as now I hit 95C on stock 2760qm cooling where I would hit 91-92 max on 59W.
  5. Some more info - this c0% at 99.9 before sleep and full 100 after only occurs with prime95. With the TS Bench I get c0% = 100.0 before and after sleep so there is no issue there but TS Bench does not push me to 64Watts that Prime95 does after resuming from sleep. Maybe an issue with prime95? What is another quick benchmark I could try with high stress at 8 threads 4 cores? Attached is a picture AFTER sleep notice the new c0% and watts
  6. Hey guys, I had an interesting question about throttlestop on my m18x i7-2760qm.. For some reason when i use it - my c0% is stuck at 99.9 and the Watts reading on the main throttlestop page is around 58W and this is the max I can get with primary plane adjustments and TPL limits maxed out. When I put my computer to sleep and resume my c0% is 100.0 straight across and my Watts is around 64W resulting it better turbos. I have already disabled ProcHOT and my temps are fine < 90C (throttle limit also raised in unlocked bios). My question is - what is changing when waking it up from sleep so I can apply this from fresh start?
  7. Welcome back to the m18x fun Brian, I myself had a few issues and then got a brand new system with 580M's for the hassle and the system has been going great. Looking forward to the article.
  8. Figured this out - first a BIOS mod is needed (and already made) ONLY if you are overclocking aggressively to up the voltage on the new P1 state they that was added in the recent 580m dell vbios. The solution: simply up the clocks on the new state (p1) to those of the max performance state (p0) because when the cards throttle they go from the p0 to the P1 state. If the P1 state is set the same clocks and voltage as the max performance state, nothing happens in regards to throttling. Using a overvolted Bios Mod I have overclocked to 850 core 2012mem and no throttling is observed because it is swapping between 2 states that have the same settings (clocks AND VOLTS). I use Nvinspector to overclock as you can overclock any state using the program and you can also apply these settings in a shortcut to multiple performance states (P1, P0) The 2 lowest performance states are still preserved so cards are still downclocking to those whenever load is low out of a game. Lastly, if you are not overclocking very extreme, the 0.85v stock setting of the new performance p1 state is also sufficient to carry a decent overclock (maybe enough to even match your performance overclock level if you are not pushing it to the limits) so no overvolting via bios mod is needed in that state. YAY! Edit: To create a shortcut to nvinspector in which multiple performance states are overclocked - this is an example of the shortcut used to edit the p0 and p1 states as would be typed under properties - target: C:\Users\xyz\Desktop\nvidiaInspector\nvidiaInspector.exe -setShaderClock:0,3,1700 -setMemoryClock:0,3,2025 -setVoltage:0,3,920 -setShaderClock:0,2,1700 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2025 some additional information on the end of this thread from myself M17xR3 - VBIOS UPDATED 10/5 - nVidia GeForce GTX 580M - Page 5
  9. Nope card 2 is not working at all "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" exclamation mark in device manager. Drivers properly installed.
  10. Hey guys I needed some help with my 580M's it seems they are different revisions (FF and A1) and maybe slightly different VBIOS. The pics are on this thread Flashing 580m Does anyone know how to flash the BIOS on card 2 to make it identical to card one or if I need to flash card 1 to make it like card 2 or maybe they installed secondary in the primary spot. Please let me know need help bad .
  11. hey svl7 are you able to change brightness with that early 11.7 driver, I was not able to via FN+F4/F5 or even dragging it under windows power settings?
  12. I would not cancel, like Brian had said these seem to be isolated issues as others have had normal temps. On the other hand, if you want to wait for newer GPU options which appear imminent then you can decide what is best for you
  13. Same issue as Brian, mine was to the point that it even throttled on furmark and momentary lowered clock speeds when shader temp hit 105C, and back and forth.
  14. Haha, trust me Brian has much more experience than me, I try to contribute what I can. Thank you for the kind comments though and I am repurchasing as well in June.
  15. Appreciate it, I am definitely still a fan of Alienware after seeing the build quality, hopefully they can iron out some of the isolated issues or I can be luckier next time.
  16. Currently returning my m18x, after about 10min furmark on stock speeds , gpu2 goes to 90C with its sub temps going to above 100C. To hard to mess with the GPU's repasting and such + don't really want to bother fiddling with a brand new hardware. Going to re-order when new GPU's are released hopefully soon, maybe then engineering will address this.
  17. it could be wireless hd, mediacard reader, wifi card.
  18. one issue I have noticed is,while plugged in if you put it to sleep, then wake it up the brightness is below what you had left it at. Mines is set to 100% but when it wakes up its like 40-50%, anyone else having this issue. BTW i do retain control of the brightness via power settings and slider, but just that fact that it auto lowers it everytime on wakeup is annoying. FN keys work to raise it after, but just the fact that it always happens.
  19. Oh yea haha, i make sure to use my magnetized screwdriver for laptops just incase that
  20. Does anyone know how to maintain aero enabled on reboots on the integrated graphics?
  21. Ah ok, can some other m18x user confirm this as well. Thanks stam too.
  22. Does anyone know where to get the webcam driver for the m18x, as i reformatted on my ssd and cant find it on the install disk nor do I know the brand name of the webcam. BTW the black m18x looks amazing as well.
  23. I think Dell just gives the shipped notification later now to make it seem like NBD ):
