  1. LOL, ok... so after bricking this bad boy I just got my laptop fixed and returned back from Lenovo.

From Windows 8 X64 running DX Diagnostic tool, it says I have version

    InsydeH20 Version 03.71.515DCN40WW (V2.07)

I downloaded [Y580][Y480]-'unlocked_BIOS'_660mGHzEdition_WhitelistMod, extracted it, and ran InsydeFlash.exe as admin and I receive the following error.

"The version of the rom file isn't newer than version of bios."

I hit OK and the program closes.

    Now what?

Thanks for all your help thus far svl7. I'm a noob lol =)

Damn, forgot to change this... you'll need to modifiy the platform file, first line in the 'common flash' section -> change RESSEN to RESSDIS and try again.

    nevermind, found this.

  2. Well looks like I'm mailing in to Lenovo to get it fixed =( unless someone else has an idea.

Now, when i get it back, will flashing this bios put me on the v8.0x firmware? How do I know which version to flash? 8.0, 8.01, 2.0x, etc.

I'm guessing since this bricked that means I was on the 2.0x bios?

    Thanks!

  3. Did you flash the same bios version as you already had on your machine?

    crap, probably not. Any advice?

    Edit:

Found another guy who did the same thing, trying your advice you gave him. Will report back.

    trying the fn +b method

the system did not turn on on it's own. I held it for about a minute or 2 and now it's just chain beeping from the PC speaker...

    any advice?

    Edit:

ok So I'm retarded even more so. It started beeping for a while, then I unplugged it, like a moron instead of waiting for it to reboot., now it won't turn on at all =( Did I brick it? is there any way to get it to turn back on?

  4. And I told you the solution, but apparently you're not reading my posts.

Thanks for the help, but I did read that.

Here is the error I am getting from DOS from running this file. http://forum.techinferno.com/attachments/general-notebook-discussions/5935d1359986854-fpt_dos.zip

Reading HSFST Register... Flash Descriptor: valid

  5. No, flashing a vbios isn't dangerous, at least not this mod. What I meant is that pushing the vram modules so far is not healthy, they work at this speed, but they're not rated for it. It's nice for benchmarking but not recommendable for daily use. Of course in the end it's your system...

I am still not understanding you.

So you are saying this bios update should or should NOT be run daily safely?

  6. With the stock vbios you can only overclock up to +135MHz on the core, with this mod you can go much further, plus the base clock is already raised to 1Ghz.

So is this dangerous to run? I mean obviously flashing a bios is, but I mean once it's working? Or can the system handle it easily without artifacting/overheating?

  7. So I did everything as explained, and it the bios flash worked. I restarted the PC, changed a few things (nothing important, besides enabling the Intel Virtualization something (I can't remember the exact name)) and when I restarted again, the PC won't boot anymore: it just keeps restarting (turning on and off) before it even gets to the Lenovo screen. I tried removing the battery, without success.

Any hopes for me? Did I brick the BIOS? Should I just give it to tech support? It occurred to me that perhaps removing the CMOS Battery and rolling back the BIOS configurations would maybe work, but I couldn't find it. I read in someplace that it is below the touchpad, can anyone confirm if that's true? Thank you very much and I apologize for the desperation! haha

    Yikes..

What steps did you do specifically? There are a few ways to go depending on your setup.

  8. Mic static when using the audio or specifically when using the microphone? If its static from the mic while using the system for other tasks, just mute it.

Try plugging in a mic and using it. The sound quality is terrible for those hearing you. Check the listen box to see what I am talking about. It's bad.
