  1. I see that many have underclocked the 7970M with a VBIOS to 0.975 v.

From what I understand, this is because there are problems of power between the 920XM overclocked and 7970M.

If my m15x is equipped with a 820QM,Can I flash a VBIOS 1.100v to push the 7970M at higher frequencies without problems?

used to have a undervolted vbios with 0.975v.

    right now i'm using a vbios @ 1.000v without any problems with a 840qm.

  2. I've seen your screenprint of HWinfo and I see that it recorded a vddc max of 1.00v. Does the voltage change as well when you're using DP?

edit: Nvm, I didn't see that you have 3D clocks there too so you probably ran an app that triggered 3D mode and the voltage.

So judging from your screenprint DP works with 0.825v with no voltage change at all? The reason I ask is I'm trying to figure out what other states these cards have. GPUshark only reports the normal 2D and 3D states.

  3. guys, i did a repaste yesterday, since i had high temps when playing games (once 88°C).

got better now but still have kinda high idle temps on my gpu. (like around 58°C).

and i'm pretty sure repasting was done good, since i never had problem with that.

it seem like this high temps came when i peplaced my vbios chip.

could this have to do with being on 1.000v not undervolted?

(have been on 0.975v before, because of throttling, but with this vbios 1.000v works fine)

when checking sensors with hwinfo i saw mem clock being at 1199mhz when idling..

i think i remember it clocking down when not in 3D state etc.. isn't it like that?

i have a 015.019 clevo vbios. no issue when playing etc except temps.

here is a screen of the gpu part in hwinfo:

    EDIT:

i did some tests. i now saw, that when using a monitor with my display port, mem clock stays high at 1199mhz.

when i disconnect the monitor, it goes back to 149mhz. is this normal? this is the reason for my idle temp to go up.

without connected monitor thru DP, my idel temps are around 39°C..

  4. that should work with no issues.

    i have a i7 Q840 @ 1,86 Ghz here together with the 7970m.

RAM is no problem as well.

    Hi Svl7,

thanks. I also found it at ebay.

    Will my M15x with i7 Q740 @1.73Ghz fit?

    16 gig Ram installed.

Then i will order one next month. But first I will read the forum how to flash vbios and so on.

    Greets from Austria.

  5. Just to clarify something, though I think I have mentioned it before, I had several Clevo 7970m in my system and I got DisplayPort to work with all vbios versions except the MSI and the Clevo HM vbios, therefore I think the problem could be motherboard related, there might be different revisions.

Nevertheless it's worth a try if you don't have DP working.

yes svl7, you did mention it a lot of times and since your techwords are techlaws i was so afraid i just had a m15x with some mobo that couldn't handle DP with the clevo.

but i have to say, i'm glad that, there is a little exception now ;)

Do you have to use a Alienware / Dell Display Port adapter or will any brand DP adapter be fine ?

actually i have no idea, but i really think other should be fine as well. i have got the aw/dell one myself, so i can't tell..

  6. Read again, that version will result in a black screen. You say you have a 015.017? That's probably a Dell vbios. What's the exact version string (check GPU-Z)?

arg, i ment the 015.019.. sorry i was freaking out aleady! ;b

    exact version string is:

    015.017.000.001.042717 (113-C42904A1-117)

it's card from mxm-upgrade, it shipped with the dell vbios.

then i flashed your UC 0.950v vbios.

  7. At the moment I have access to a Clevo 7970m here and just tested the 015.019 Clevo vbios, DisplayPort to HDMI works perfectly, connected it to a 1080p screen. I had to adjust the scaling setting in CCC a bit in order to get the best result, but that's it.

Gonna test some more vbios version just to make sure.

EDIT: I tested nine different vbios versions, seven of them work perfectly fine, including DP/HDMI. The two which don't work are the Clevo P150EM vbios (015.018) and the only MSI vbios I have, both resulted in a black scree (internal laptop display) and also no picture on DP/HDMI.

i have the 015.017 clevo vbios and no DP.

would that vbios you tested maybe work for me?

can you supply me with that 015.018 vbios?

i'd go so nuts if that worked! i'll spend some beer then!!

  8. Already done with clean install, but was same story, about sound I don,t think it is driver related, since it say not plugged in like it have driver but device is missing.

I will try to reset bios, and will ket you know result.

Btw you have 015.022 isntaled on dell card?

svl7 doesn't have his 7970m cards anymore afaik.

i have the 015.017 dell vbios on my clevo.

  9. No one is replaying this is sad,

Also I think that maybe problem is with new Dell Vbios, but this is only my suggestion.

Card Version is 015.022 which I think is latest one,

I am wondering if some one tested DP with this Vbios, also is it possible to downgrade this Vbios to some lower version which support DP for sure.

Another issue that I face is that I think with some drivers card don;t go to 1200/850 and performance is bad. I do fresh install on Windows 8, and do some tests with drivers, but DP still not working.

Svl7 Please show-up in forum and give your opinion :)

    BR,

    Ivan

maybe most people don't reply, because they don't have a clue.. like me.

i have a clevo card, DP doesn't work.. as soon windows loads, the second monitor turns black and shuts off.

i think @Genetics is one of the few users here having a DELL card and are able to use the DP.

unfortunaly he is having his wedding celebration.

about your clocks issue, have you tried svl7s underclock vbios? i got my card running with the 0.950v vbios, runs like a charm. no problems at all!

  10. Make sure stealth mode is inactive.

About the warranty... in the US it would be fine according to Dell reps, but I guess the morons in the EU and other regions handle this differently.

I never had issues with the on-site service, they don't really care what is in your system as long as you didn't damage it.

Regarding the DP issues... I'm not sure what's going on, I'm positive that my second monitor worked with the Dell card and with the Clevo card (connected per DP to HDMI).

about the DP issues, maybe a driver issue? without the amd drivers, the DP works.

maybe the drivers which were up-to-date that time worked? but it's not thaaat long ango, since you had your 7970m, right?

  11. hey all, i done this upgrade a fair few months ago, went perfect! but today i had my motherboard replaced under warranty due to the Ethernet port not working, after having a mix up with Alienware and about 3 faulty motherboards fitted i now have one that allows the computer to start, and also has a working Ethernet connection! but, there is always a BUT! when i play games which i used to get 60-80 fps during a high load battle and about 120 fps just standing around (World of Warcraft) i now get 6 - 15 fps in major city's and 40-60 fps with graphics on the lowest possible settings! i have re seated and re pasted the GPU but this has not helped, any ideas what the reason to this may be?

    NovaBench

322 FPS with Geforce Graphics Card

    907 FPS with 7970M

these results where on 08/01/13 when the new card was fitted (before / after)

now i run the benchmark again and i am only getting 219 FPS... what has happened?

also, Alienware are now informing me that due to the change of graphics card the whole laptop is warranty void? i thought this was not the case with Alieware?

many thanks for your time to reply to this issue!

    Jake

have you done an undervolt with svl7s vbios?

run gpu-z and tab out of game, to see if the card is running 3D clocks (850/1200).

i had to flash the 0.950v vbios, to make my 7970m run stable.

are you using the latest amd drivers as well?

in WoW i get about 40-60 fps in major cities and stable 60fps anywhere else (vsync on, high settings).

  12. Thank you for responding and sorry for the lack of information; my keyboard randomly but frequently decided to not register my keystrokes making typing a nightmare. I may have not attached the cable from the media panel as securely as i thought after i installed the gpu so i will see if that is the problem.

As for the fan problem.. I can get to the fan control settings fine, but im not quite sure which sensors to use (basically how to configure it to work properly) and i was hoping to attain some help from a more knowledgeable person.

check out this thread about alienware fan control with hwinfo.

    helped me a lot configuring.
