oh wow only 30 dollar upgrade? thats the hybrid drive right? how much faster is the os with a hybrid? i was planning on getting a vertex 3 at a later date, but for 30 dollars it seems like a deal.

what is everyone going to upgrade when they order from dell? and why? Im ordering mine with 2720qm xfire 6970 intel wifi -Im ordering with the 2720QM because i do extremely cpu intensive tasks. -Xfire the 100+ fps and bragging rights and will use as portable 20 min heater in emergency situations to keep warm. -Intel wifi for the extra internal wifi antenna pre installed lets hear it boys!

my R3 is supposed to show up on Tuesday, yes the same day the 18x is released! lol Can i refuse delivery of the R3 so its sent back to dell? basically can i skip paying for shipping the R3 back? any shipping experts in the house?

dang that sucks! It would be amazing to be able to use Avengers as laptops lol Will be a shame to send my R3 back. cant believe its battery life!

I'll wait on the 2920xm till they drop a bit in price and pay off the 18x lol it will be my payoff gift to lol I hope it's based off of the z68 would love to have the cake and eat it. Would make this monstrosity usable in the real world. Come on Dell!

Well besides xfire 6970s only thing I planned on was a 2720qm. How much can you find 2720qms for online and were is the best place to look? Oh, and my r3 came to 2200 after tax with 2720 and 6970 and 1080 screen. 300 more for dual gpu and aluminum body plus better build quality seems like a good deal lol!

Hay brian, just for info sake how much shipped did your r3 come too? I'm thinking when It comes time to order 18xs maybe if we all go through the same rep we can convince him of a group buy price? Anyone have any experience with Dell on this? Would be nice if out collective buying power could work for us.

well i keep systems for 4-5 years historically. so buying an 18x now makes sence. my17x r3 will be here the 21st as i said so ill see what the release holds for the 18. i get best of both worlds, try out a 17 and if its not my hearts desire i send it back for an 18.

well i can send it back they say with no fee, as long as i order a new system and as it looks like it will go public april 20th i should be good to go! cant wait for dual gpu madness. is it bad when you spend 3 grand on a new system just to play a 50 dollar game? shogun 2? lol anyone ever play x3 terran conflict btw? few years old single threaded space sim game.

Well base m17 r3 was roughly 1500 so base of 1800 or so sounds reasonable and 250 a piece for 6970s 2400 with 1080p screen. The base m17 wasn't 1080p. In anycase I think 2500 for 2720qm 4 gb ram, 1080p isn't too far of a stretch. Prob on the high side actually

Ok! Good news! Just got off the phone with alienware new system agent. I told him I wanted to cancel my m17x order and get an 18x and am willing to spend more money to do it. He confirmed the m18x is comming very soon, withen my 21 day return period, edd is the 21st, he said to call him back and he can arrainge an rma with no restocking fee. I'll have it ordered on it's release day and expect a very thorough gamut of benchmarks upon arrival! =)

Hay guys im new here and just posted a thread about this same issue! sorry! Question my final price was 2200 shipped. my build for m18x would be 6970 xfire 2720qm, 4gb ram and 1920x1080 screen. how much do you all think it would run? under 300? im hoping it will be 2500 shipped. but not holding my breath. anyone know what the scaling is on the 6970m's in Xfire?
