  1. Yeah, actually I got the v3b from Eurocom and flashed, installed a bunch of different forceware drivers (new) that still didn't fix optimus). Then finally I went with 364.51 with latest Intel driver and Optimus works brilliantly, FPS are good. Except one thing... now i get hard freezes ever 1 to 3 hours with artifacts on all monitors, and this is with or without running any apps on Dgpu. Also Flashed Vbios to prema mod V2 at the same time. Not sure what it is. Verified TIM and temps are decent on CPU (60-70) and great on GPU (~55-65) when doing more intensive stuff or gaming. Considering downgrading v3b to another bios to eliminate it as cause. I have NEVER had a totally hard freeze like this on the P170EM prior to the 2 bios flashes and new drivers. Tried a different Intel driver and this did not help either.
  2. Looking for the same v3B bios for 170EM in a pinch. (W10 driver issues)
  3. Hey guys, where can one find the v3b BIOS for P170EM or P150EM? Cant see it anywhere? THanks. (Trying to get 970M working in W10, and I am not sure if Eurocom will send me the bios in a pinch etc. [think i got the 970m from them on ebay but cant recall 100%])
  4. WOW, first time i've heard about a P170EM breaking those heatpipes. I thought they were solid copper, but I guess not, and that's coolant inside..
  5. You'd have to select the one for the P150SM-A (same geometry as P150EM)
  6. Check out my post above, Eurocom has them as well, specifically for the EM's. Eurocom VGA Add coupon code 150131AW10EB in the order's Notes section for a 10% discount this month. (note Canadian retailer, CAD prices by default, but they do export) Edit: rogueagent6 beat me to it. But at least now you got the coupon code.
  7. Question: I have the 680m now with proper fitting thermal pads. Would I need ADDITIONAL pads to make the 680m heatsink work on the 980m? Thanks in advance for any and all info, the more info the better, as I am considering buying a 980m (or 970m) without a new heat sink. Edit: If you have pics of the card and heatsink that you installed that would be helpful too! Edit2: It seems a lot of the answers can be found by looking at the heatsink configurations here: http://www.eurocom.com/ec/vgas%281%29ec The new P170EM heatsinks (are basically P170SM ones) have an additional copper pipe for the GPU die which will no doubt offer better cooling. However at the same TDP as the 680M, the 980M should at least run comparatively hot with same 680M heatsink and pads. New pads may be in order for new style heatsink, but not even sure if that's true.
  8. Ok, but the thing with Clevo cards is they're not all the same VBIOS, most come with Enduro check and enduro enabled (for EM machines), but some have enduro check disabled (some the ones you get from resellers, like for HM series or if you tell them you have m15x) So I still think it looks exactly like the issue P170HM users have when they try to use the P170EM vbios, black screen due to enduro check in VBIOS, then a blindflash is done to fix it. But who knows, I mean, it COULD be checked if you can flash a P1x0EM to your own card and get a black screen. Worth the time? Perhaps not.
  9. I guess the guy who bought my card was imagining the black screen for several hours then? I think there is an Enduro check built into some Clevo firmwares, not into the m15x. At least when he flashed to a Dell VBIOS it started to work for him. (I dunno, or he made it up)
  10. Problem fixed as noted above The problem is the IGP check on the 7970m from P1xxEM series which have enduro enabled/forced. One has to first install the Dell vbios or HM cracked VBIOS from the master svl7.
  11. Interesting, apparently he is on A09, and has now tried a reset to defaults in the bios then reinstalled the card. Stil no dice. His old 260M still works though. Hmf... well. I don't know, maybe a VBIOS flash is needed for it after all? Bizarre, its just a regular 7970M from a Clevo 170EM, straight from reseller. (I've offered to take a look personally as I'm about 5Km away, so maybe we'll see what this is all about) - - - Updated - - - Wait, the m15x Alienware (non Area 51 M15x) doesn't have IGP, therefore isn't this mod necessary? http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/688656-guide-blind-flashing-amd-7970m-modded-vbios-clevo-p1xxhm-laptops.html it would seem it is
  12. That's what it sounds like, I hope he didn't break the card (it was a good card when shipped)
  13. On a very similar note, I sold my working Clevo 7970M to a guy who has an Alienware m15x, and apparently after install he doesn't get any video at all, but can hear the laptop boot into windows. Any ideas what could cause no video problem after throwing that card in? (it had stock Clevo BIOS as well) Here is his report: I'm trying to make sure he updated the BIOS first, and told him about FN+F7, but I'm not sure how the graphics are switched on the M15x if someone swaps the video card from NVIDIA to AMD? Is there a Bios setting? Also waiting on further info, like if external displays work. Edit: it doesn't sound like that system even has integrated graphics?
  14. I tried the MSI 1.025v (which should be more stable than 1.0v) and I couldn't maintain 1012MHz for more than 10 seconds. So it doesn't help at all. I need 1.05V to be stable. Now at 1026MHz and rock solid, still have to find the limit at 1.05V for the GPU core (Vram is always solid at 455 to 460, but slightly unstable at 465, no matter what voltage or temp) It does indeed matter that the Clevo card is 4GB, it is having to regulate, supply and cool that many more memory chips, which increases temperature and instability quite a bit as it's running basically the same regulators, caps etc. as the 2GB version. Now I'm on a mission to mod the EC fan tables myself. Unfortunately when clevo edited the fan tables there were still huge amounts of changes in the rom file. So it's hard to locate the exact addresses of the values. They also seem to have relocated the fan speed reporting in the EC VRAM region at the same time. (It's at D2h now)
  15. @Tonrac; no I have not tried the MSI 1.00v, I'm guessing though I will get pretty much the same result. I'll try it sometime though out of interest, doesn't cost much effort. @supermi; I hope it's safe, its staying on my card unless I find the MSI one helps. The nice thing with the NVIDIA cards is they keep down clocking themselves when not needed, and have the protection at 90C. Also since .987 vs 1.05 isn't a gigantic difference, should be fine.
