  1. thanks .. btw.. it seems that gtx880m is much hotter than gtx780m... I dont know if there's a compatible gpu heatsink for future msi gt60 that can fit in into my gt60-one. It should have 4 pipes vs 3 pipes currently on my gt60-one though.. I dont know if msi will release a compatible heatsink though.. Im not in a hurry to buy a gpu since I am using the internal hd4000 gpu which is stilll ok to play in some dx11 games. Its okay to use the internal gpu for the moment until a have enough $$ to spend on another gpu for my nb though.

  2. I Own an MSI GT60-ONE... My GPU (680m) died out on me and I am planning to get a Gtx780m soon. Question is, does it matter what brand of GTX780m will I get in ebay? ie Alienware,Clevo or i'll just have to wait for GTX880m?

  3. Whenever I run Tombraider 2013 (except during initial boot of OS the problem doesn't occur)especially in the intro of the game and when the game starts, my nb shuts down. My nb fsb is set to default 100fsb,tried to run the stock speeds of the gpu and still the problem is there... I tried to monitor the temps thru afterburner and it shows like 80-89degrees celcius but during intro the temps is much lower.

    Is this heat related thats why the nb shuts down? I know if its gpu related i can see artifacts or just exits the game right? but it's not... Do I need to clean again and repaste? I just repasted it this month only though... Or thermal pads I need to replace? I just noticed that the surroundings of the power button of my notebook is warm not like before though... Do I need to reformat? Or do i need to adjust temps setting in bios?

    Im getting frustrated here. can some techy guru help ? thanks a lot

    NB=MSI GT60

    gpu=NVidida gtx680m

    mem= 8gb

    AC/Adapter=240W dell

    vbios= Slv7 1.025v MSI vbios

    bios = unlock

    OS=Win 7

  4. I think your problem is your BCLK overclock. 105 is high for BCLK on a laptop. BCLK is weird and results in hard freezes/shutdowns when too high. If dropping the BCLK isn't it, then I say your GPU overclock is just too high.

    You where right with your diagnostics.. First and foremest, 3Dmark 13 with the updated version of V1.2.25 is so sensitive with BCLK. I lowered the bclk from 105 to 103 and it did work! No more shutdown.

    Your second advice is, I've checked my mxm board (took out the board from my nb and attached it to the heatsink to see if the thermal pads are doing its job) and found out that there where 2 thermal pads attached to the capacitor but it's not in contact with the gpu heatsink which I've put additional pads just to fill those gaps (thus leads to a more lower temps)

    I updated the vbios from v1.025 to 1.05v and it gave my 680M more juice!!!

    Here's the pic of 3dmark 11 benchmark @ 105 fsb

    7raq.jpg

    I think futuremark should make another patch with 3dmark 2013 regarding the BCLK issue. Because before I updated to the latest version (V1.2.25), all is working well, Just like 3dmark 11. Both can run 105fsb with no issues/shutdown.

    Anyway, thanks mate :-D

  5. 105 is high for BCLK on a laptop. BCLK is weird and results in hard freezes/shutdowns when too high. If dropping the BCLK isn't it, then I say your GPU overclock is just too high.

    The PSU is definitely not the problem.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    Ok, I will try to adjust the settings on bclk when i get back home.

    Else if GPU settings is too high then nb shutsdown? Many thanks

  6. What is your CPU and is it overclocked? Only a very overclocked sandy bridge could trip a 240W PSU with a 680m at 1.025V

    still using a 3610qm but i have an unlock bios thats why my fsb is 105. Locked multiplier but still oc'ed fsb + oc'ed GPU 680m @ 1.025v.. So my psu cant handle the load? thanks mate

    Also if you were having PSU shutdowns you can tell because you need to disconnected the PSU for over 5 seconds to get it to turn back on, assuming you are using the dell m17x 240W psu.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    When shutdown occurs, I can turn on the power button instantly... dunno if its heat issue, but if its heat issue, first the benchmark will still run then, artifacts, then exit in 3dmark right?

  7. I have question regarding my AC adapter or thermal heat related issue. Whenever I benchmark my gpu (nvidia gtx 680M) with 3dmark 2013 and using afterburner (tweaking to high core clocks and memory clock settings), it loads but after loading my notebook shuts down... Is my PSU lacking in power? Or related to heat issue? That's why it shuts down. I am using a 240 watts ac adapter, vbios mod by svl7 (1.025v), ec firmware mod and unlock bios. Its not heat related because I just cleaned my gpu/cpu heatsink fan and put a xigmatek PTI-G4512 thermal paste.

    I did also run a memtest to check if its a faulty memory but did 4 passes with no issue.

    I am opting to buy a 330watts dell adapter if my 240watts psu is lacking power now as I saw in one of the post of meaker in another forum.

    Can anyone help? thanks

  8. Found the culprit to my problem.. It's the faulty "esc" button keyboard thats causing the trouble to my nb. Had it double check by MSI tech people. They said the keyboard is grounded, causing the nb to operate in an abnormal state-restart while installing fresh windows, and halting the gpu-mxm card undetected in windows.

    The keyboard is replaced by a new one and it's okay now. I am relieved that the problem is gone and playing in ultra max settings in some dx11 games. I love my NB with its raw power gpu. Cheers :bananadoggywow:

  9. my nb have a problem. It started last week. I was about to format my drive c, but before doing the procedure I went to bios settings and

    use the keyboard. The "esc" button wont function unless I use an external keyboard which I did. After re-enterring in bios, it seems that

    the menu screen "save the current settings yes or no" message appears so many times as if there's something stuck up (always pops out) on

    the steel series keyboard...

    Even when using an external Keyboard I can't do anything about it.. So I used Gold/Memtest to see if memory have faulty address. It was

    running fine for 5 minutes then afterwards the nb shuts down or restarts.. To my curiosity, I replaced the power grid with the battery but

    Even when I put the battery, the problem persist....What is happening with my NB?

    I also cleaned my gpu/cpu heatsink and pasted with ic diamond so there's no heat issue in it still the problem is there ... Any technical feedback could be of great help... thanks guru's

  10. I have an msi gt60-one model nb and I dont know if this is the right thread though.. I would like to ask guru Prema regarding bios mods

    @Prema

    ... Is it possible to add gpu id of nvidia gtx 7XXm in bios so that it would be PNP when I want to upgrade my mxm gpu in the near future? Some people successfully installed an nvidia gtx780m with this model and manually changed some settings (thru bios and drivers?) If its possible can you mod a bios for MSI-GT60-one model? Many thanks

  11. I asked a tech person who does bios mod especially to add a new gpu id of nvidia gtx7xxm on msi-gt60. And this is his reply

    i can't change/add support for new GPUs, there is many different problems that can arise,

    include power consumption or temp related.

    ie: if a new card can't work on your NB, i can't help with this

  12. Well no, because for some reason the MXM systems seem to use the ssid from the board and not from the card to... else I could easily adjust it in the vbios, but the ssid of the vbios doesn't matter for some reason.

    It has always been like this. You'll need to mod the .inf files.

    @svl7

    Is it possible to update the bios of nb and add the ssid of new mxm board like gtx780m on ivy bridge boards like msi gt70/60?

  13. i have an unlock bios, a modded ecfirmware by svet, and modded vbios done by svl7. combine those three ingredients works like a charm. google clevo/sager heatsink foil or fan foil (something like that) on how to lower your temps while playing dx 11 games. All of these I mentioned will be a great advantage to you when you have an nb.... now time for me to sleep :-)
