  1. Hi Inches,

    Thanks for your replie.

I already ordered the green gtx770m. Lets see how this works. I ordered a New heatpipe and New thermal compound, too.

But can you tell me what the EC is and how to flash it. And what advantages do I get from that?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Hermelinmaster

It's the Embedded Controller. It mainly controls the chassis fan, but it does have some minor play in GPU compatibility. It has to be flashed from a bootable usb in DOS, and the only advantage I knew of was to ensure that there wasn't anything embedded that would keep the notebook from supporting the new GPU. I know most, times manufactures will put the GPU whitelist in the bios, but it doesn't hurt to have the latest EC.

  2. Hi there,

This is my first post in this forum.

I think about replacing my GTX570m with a GTX770m in my Medion Erazer x6819.

I have read that the only one card that works is a blue, pulled from a clevo.

Now iTzZent states that the green from MSI works as well (or even better).

    So could this card

Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M 3GB DDR5 MXM 3.0 Type B for MSI Alienware | eBay

    work?

Or should i take this one

Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M 3GB DDR5 for clevo alienware msi upgrademonkey in stock | eBay

and modify the inf everytime i update the drivers?

And how about those inf? Can I modify them by myself if i know what to do/add?

Thanks a lot for your help, especialy if iTzZent could offer some first Hand help. He seems to have modified the exakt same laptop.

    Kind regards,

    Hermelinmaster

From the looks of it, your laptop is built on the GT680 chassis. If that's the case then the Green MSI 770m should work just fine. I had one in my GT680 and it ran beautifully, just be sure to have your bios and EC updated to the latest versions and it should be plug and play.

  3. Are you talking about the vbios on the card or the bios of the laptop. The vbios on the card can be modified to run at that speed without a reflash, so it's not a huge issue.

My question to you is why are you wanting to flash it anyway?? Is it not doing something right or are you wanting to open up more performance? Either way you just need to flash it with a 680m vbios and you'll be good in most cases. As for your ram, I haven't the slightest idea. I do know that on intel's site the i7 3630 is listed as supporting 1333/1600 Ram so it may be a by product of that.

  4. I'd be careful with that vbios Klem listed. I used that on mine and it caused my card to lock up while gaming. I looked into the vbios with Svet vbios tool and found that the power target on it was practically unlimited. I had the same results on a 150, 180 and 240w power supply. The one that I have up in a thread on here is the stock MSI vbios and I had no problems with it locking up.

Not to say that the vbios @Klem listed isn't good, but that was my experience.

  5. Question for you.. Did it ever fully post with the 780m present in the system?? Sounds that way since you say you made a bad vbios flash. If you can't get into the system with the 780m present, you only option is to find some body willing to let you flash you card back to the original vbios and go from there. I know because I am in a similar boat with a 770m in a gt680 :(

  6. Sorry man, there's not a link to a specific seller like everyone else has. I got lucky and caught mine one-off from a regular user on eBay. I wish I could point you in the right direction, but I seriously got lucky. After reading through this and other threads out there, I was sweating bullets hoping my card would post when I got it in. I will say this though. My card is a little different from the Clevo ones that everyone else is buying. Across the top of the card there are normally 4 ICs on the Clevo and other card, but mine only had two spaced every other one. Also it has the black protective tape right around the GPU chip itself. The best way to know if it's an MSi card is if you can see the standard MSi p/n naming convention print on the card i.e. MS-XXXX. That's you're best bet for sure.

Hi inches!, could you send me a link where did you buy your card from, share the link please.
  7. The one thing I've noticed re: fps drops - if you cap your FPS in whatever game you're playing you can decrease the frequency of drops, but they still happen. Hitting the 100% fan button also helps to reduce the frequency.

    Herrick,

I fixed my problem with FPS drops. It is tied to temp and it has something to do with the way the 770m talks back to the CPU, anyway.. I tried setting Throttlestop to x22, but that just made the drops less frequent. Then I ran across an Alienware forum post that said to uncheck the BCPROxx something or other box in throttlestop. As soon as I did that everything is butter smooth. The GPU stays at 96~99 load all the time. Hope this helps you out

  8. Don't see why you couldn't. Your best bet to get an appropriate match is to carefully disassemble your screen lid, get the model number from your current screen and find the corresponding matte panel on eBay or something. Should be similar to other 15.6 MSI models.

  9. Ok guys, here's a screenshot:

    and the vbios:

The best way to know for certain if it's an MSI card is the printed identifier on the card. Most cards I've seen on floating around don't have the standard MSI model number printed on them under the ram dimms right above the chip. Like on my 570m that I pulled it had MS-1W051 printed on it. I would tell what's printed on the 770m, but I don't remember exactly. Hope this helps out.

  10. Hey all, I've read through this thread and just wanted to let you guys know that I have just successfully installed an MSI 770m in my GT680R with no problems, NONE!! Mine was plug and play. The only thing that I could think of that gave me such success was that I have updated my EC firmware when I was prepping for a 580m. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it, but mine worked. I won't kid, I was nervous after reading that no one had luck with an MSI card, but :woot:when mine booted right to windows.

If anyone needs any info, just let me know. I am more than glad to help!!

  11. @solidus1983, what heatsink did you have to use for your 770m?? I've looked at the card and the layout is actually closer to a 460m than the 570m I currently have in my system. Just wondering because I ordered a 770m and wonder if my heatsink will work fine.

  12. Hello! Hope someone can help me.. I recently bought a 675m for my GT673DXR, 570m was dead. Seems to be working but when I install the nvidia drivers, the screen turns black after Windows logo. Could anyone help me with that? Thanks in advance

Is you're screen just turning black or is the notebook shutting down?? I had a similar time with a 580m (same as a 675m) causing hard shutdowns. I think it was an issue of the card being 100w and too much for the mobo. Also, have you tried flashing a MSI vBIOS to it??

  13. Has anyone installed it into the 683DRX sucessfully?

Just curious about why the bios is shared between 683R and 683DXR (as far as I know their motherboards are different, aren't they?)

Nope, the only difference in the two were the video card. Realistically the only major difference in any of the 68x series was the video card. I originally bought a GT680R, had a 460m in it. Swapped to a 570m and the bios shows as a 683DXR, testing out a 580m and it shows as a 685R. If I flash the 580m to a 675m it goes back to a 680R as it doesn't truly support the card.

  14. Hey @Xonar,

I had your bios running fine on my GT680R. Then I went to update my EC to the latest .424 firmware, and now I can't use the unlocked bios anymore. I get a BSOD at the windows load stating "The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant." If I flash back to the original then I'm fine. You have any ideas or is this going to require the bios be recompiled?? Thanks again for the work you do!!

  15. Well ain't this just interesting. Glad to see actual evidence of this working!!

@Suoah, are you still using the 2630qm, and if so do you have any before and after benches?? I'm interested in this or the 7970m. I know the 7970m is faster but if this doesn't require a new heatsink it'd be a cheaper upgrade option.
