  1. It's the Embedded Controller. It mainly controls the chassis fan, but it does have some minor play in GPU compatibility. It has to be flashed from a bootable usb in DOS, and the only advantage I knew of was to ensure that there wasn't anything embedded that would keep the notebook from supporting the new GPU. I know most, times manufactures will put the GPU whitelist in the bios, but it doesn't hurt to have the latest EC.
  2. From the looks of it, your laptop is built on the GT680 chassis. If that's the case then the Green MSI 770m should work just fine. I had one in my GT680 and it ran beautifully, just be sure to have your bios and EC updated to the latest versions and it should be plug and play.
  3. Is your system stock?? If so the best performance upgrades are 1: GPU, 2: HDDs 3: CPU. The things you mentioned won't make much of a quantifiable difference in performance.
  4. Here it is: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16122407/MSI.GTX770m.GK106.rom
  5. Are you talking about the vbios on the card or the bios of the laptop. The vbios on the card can be modified to run at that speed without a reflash, so it's not a huge issue. My question to you is why are you wanting to flash it anyway?? Is it not doing something right or are you wanting to open up more performance? Either way you just need to flash it with a 680m vbios and you'll be good in most cases. As for your ram, I haven't the slightest idea. I do know that on intel's site the i7 3630 is listed as supporting 1333/1600 Ram so it may be a by product of that.
  6. I'd be careful with that vbios Klem listed. I used that on mine and it caused my card to lock up while gaming. I looked into the vbios with Svet vbios tool and found that the power target on it was practically unlimited. I had the same results on a 150, 180 and 240w power supply. The one that I have up in a thread on here is the stock MSI vbios and I had no problems with it locking up. Not to say that the vbios @Klem listed isn't good, but that was my experience.

Question for you.. Did it ever fully post with the 780m present in the system?? Sounds that way since you say you made a bad vbios flash. If you can't get into the system with the 780m present, you only option is to find some body willing to let you flash you card back to the original vbios and go from there. I know because I am in a similar boat with a 770m in a gt680
  8. Have either of you tried a Clevo vBIOS, also I would try a standard MSI vBIOS instead of the unlocked OC edition. I put up a link in another thread about upgrading a gt780 to 780m. I'll re-post it here if needed.
  9. Sorry man, there's not a link to a specific seller like everyone else has. I got lucky and caught mine one-off from a regular user on eBay. I wish I could point you in the right direction, but I seriously got lucky. After reading through this and other threads out there, I was sweating bullets hoping my card would post when I got it in. I will say this though. My card is a little different from the Clevo ones that everyone else is buying. Across the top of the card there are normally 4 ICs on the Clevo and other card, but mine only had two spaced every other one. Also it has the black protective tape right around the GPU chip itself. The best way to know if it's an MSi card is if you can see the standard MSi p/n naming convention print on the card i.e. MS-XXXX. That's you're best bet for sure.
  10. Herrick, I fixed my problem with FPS drops. It is tied to temp and it has something to do with the way the 770m talks back to the CPU, anyway.. I tried setting Throttlestop to x22, but that just made the drops less frequent. Then I ran across an Alienware forum post that said to uncheck the BCPROxx something or other box in throttlestop. As soon as I did that everything is butter smooth. The GPU stays at 96~99 load all the time. Hope this helps you out
  11. In the main application, not the summary window, there's a tab that say monitor, click there and it will show you the screen info
  12. Don't see why you couldn't. Your best bet to get an appropriate match is to carefully disassemble your screen lid, get the model number from your current screen and find the corresponding matte panel on eBay or something. Should be similar to other 15.6 MSI models.
  13. Yeah, I was just saying that it was weird, but yeah stock bios should only do .85v. I will say this though, I just installed an MSI 770m in my system so I can say that they do work, or you can go the mokkin route.
  14. Ok guys, here's a screenshot: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16122407/Untitled.jpg and the vbios: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16122407/MSI.GTX770m.GK106.rom The best way to know for certain if it's an MSI card is the printed identifier on the card. Most cards I've seen on floating around don't have the standard MSI model number printed on them under the ram dimms right above the chip. Like on my 570m that I pulled it had MS-1W051 printed on it. I would tell what's printed on the 770m, but I don't remember exactly. Hope this helps out.
  15. Hey all, I've read through this thread and just wanted to let you guys know that I have just successfully installed an MSI 770m in my GT680R with no problems, NONE!! Mine was plug and play. The only thing that I could think of that gave me such success was that I have updated my EC firmware when I was prepping for a 580m. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it, but mine worked. I won't kid, I was nervous after reading that no one had luck with an MSI card, but :woot:when mine booted right to windows. If anyone needs any info, just let me know. I am more than glad to help!!
