  1. F****d it up big time indeed. I'm jumping ship over to a desktop after this
  2. Not likely. Every thing was running fine with max temps of 66 degree. Was writting a report on microsoft word before my screen went blank and it couldnt be detected anymore
  3. Looks like my gpu died again. Same tell tale sign from before, could not detect any discrete GPU.
  4. @J95 I have tested the 347.25 QUADRO drivers with impressive results. However, OC is broken on this driver as EVGA crashes upon launch and nvidia inspector's clock reverts back just like 347.09 with nv_dispwi(1) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Alienware 041W46 with nv_dispwi(2) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Alienware 041W46 Currently sticking with 344.91 / Prema's vbios mod for max stability and occasional overclocking
  5. @Player2 I can confirm that they did not provide any disk or whatsoever to me. Mikecacho was provided with one and even the drivers on it were stock drivers so it is highly impossible for them to put in vbios files which are much more tedious for end users to flash by themselves. And as for @davenam I'm very certain that your gpu is dead if it is not detected by bios. Happened to me around 30 minutes within installing my first card.
  6. Oh well, guess i'll live with it. Shouldnt be too greedy about it i guess
  7. I've noticed that I can only set the fans to a specific value ( 0,2000,3400 for GPU and 0,2000,4600 for CPU). Is there any way to alter this?
  8. I see. You just solved one of the few dilemmas I had ever since I purchased this AW 17 2 years ago
  9. I usually schedule hwinfo to run with task scheduler. Do I still need it after inputing that particular line?
  10. Edit: Nvm I found it! Wow.... I have never once seen my AW 17 reach 30ish degree ever since last winter...
  11. @thegh0sts The temps would be much better too if we can actually access the GPU's fan via hwinfo. I noticed that the GPU fan automatically turns off once it reaches 45 degree celcius or lower and would only boot up back to 2000rpm at 50+ degree celcius as well as 3000+rpm @ 70+ degree subsequently. Although it may lower down the fan's volume it does get on my nerves that i could not control my GPU's fan independently. @J95 Physx score was somewhat throttled on that one because I installed the drivers wrongly, this is the correct and current score NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Alienware 041W46. And yes, this is with 240w PSU.I will upgrade to a 330W PSU as soon as Im back in Melbourne again as I am currently in no rush to do any heavy OC. Just the stock performance is sufficient for the moment. By the way, the 9k+ physx score was on Fire Strike, not 3dmark11. Here is my current score for fire strike at stock http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5601856? The overall combined score is lower because I skipped the initialy Fire Strike demo as I was only interested in knowing the graphic and physx score.
  12. After experimenting with prema's vbios mod for awhile I can conclude that prema's vbios runs a little hotter than others due to its extra .062volt. My GPU bumped from 71-72 degree celcius to 73 degree on max load and I suspect it might go as high as 75 if I left it running for prolonged period. Bear in mind that this 73 degree is achieved by overclocking the card as well and under Malaysia's hot climate ( Which I am currently enjoying my holiday in). The temps are otherwise still acceptable considering that 75 let alone 80 degree is still within the safe range especially if we are to overvolt/overclock the card.
  13. @Player2 a member from NBR reported his new AW 17 R2 experiencing throttling issues. Best to steer clear from the newer series.
  14. @J95 I found it!! NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Alienware 041W46 After using Perma's 980m vbios mod, my score on stock clock bumped back up to 12.4k graphic score! Take note that this is on 344.91 drivers/dedicated mode .
  15. @thegh0sts as far as I know, 347.09 could not hold overclocks (automatically resets to stock). By the way guys, I've noticed ever since I got my AW 17 two years ago that I could not control my GPU's fan via hwinfo. Has this problem been remedied already?
  16. @Player2 you ordered your 980m via hidevolution right? make sure that your screws are in place first before installing. They tend to leave behind a thing or two there. @J95 well I can live with it for now Just making a 980m work in AW 17 is good enough for me i guess @thegh0sts I've checked the physics scores and apparently they are pretty much the same there. It is the graphic score that is being gimped and for some reason this does not apply to the R4. I've tested evolve closed beta on my 980m and I have to say it runs FLUIDLY on maxed setting with TXAA so you would definitely want to look forward to it
  17. At this rate i might stick around with this 980m for abit before jumping ship to either clevo or desktops
  18. @J95 for some reason, 344.91 in dedicated gave me the best result possible. I Checked with other benchmarks that several other members with AW 17 including eurocom's AW 17 benchmark and apparently my scores are more or less the same as them. Looks like 980m in AW 17 is in a way slightly gimped compared to other laptops.
  19. this is my score at stock NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Alienware 041W46 and this is mikecacho's scores at stock Laptop Forums and Notebook Computer Discussion
  20. yes, with 1038/2500 I get around 7.8k Fire Strike score
  21. Hey guys, Im currently running 344.91 on Dedicated mode and my scores are only averaging around 7.8k on Fire Strike as opposed to the typical 8k+ scores of 980m. Is there something that i'm missing here? :S
  22. Just did a run with bit defender completely removed. Still somewhat same score ;S something is amiss here
  23. @J95 it worked! turned out bit defender was doing an extremely long scan on mnvflash! Thanks for the tip!
