  1. Hey J95,

I have been following your instructions on how to mod the inf files for unsupported cards. I have a M18x R1, running Windows 10 Pro, that I just put 2 x GTX 860M's in. I currently have the unlocked A05 BIOS, and the BIOS does register that there are NVIDIA cards installed, but Windows pull them up as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapters. I have gone through tons of info on how to get these cards going but have not been able to get the installers to complete. I always get a failure to install.

Here are my cards Hardware ID's:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119A&SUBSYS_048F1028&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119A&SUBSYS_048F1028
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119A&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119A&CC_0300

I have even gone through the nvdmi.inf and the nv_dispi.inf and manually added my cards information. I will admit that I am not totally certain that I did it correctly. But I am at a loss. The only reason I put these cards in is because my original setup was dual 6990's in crossfire and one of the cards went out on me. I picked both of these 860's for 100 bucks. If you could find the time, I would greatly appreciate any information that you could provide that helps me get this rig going again. Thanks.

      J95,

Never mind. I got it figured out. For my system, I had forgotten that I had set the installer to run in compatibility mode Windows 8. As soon as I set it back to normal the installer ran perfectly. Thanks!! I am now just waiting on the SLI cable to come in so I can install that.

  2. Ludo, I am not sure why your having this issue with your SSD. I just installed the Samsung 850 Evo with no issues. I am pretty sure that they run on the same controller, and as far as the interface that should not be a problem as they are all backwards compatible. I will do some looking on your drive and see if anything pops out that could cause the issue. If you have already resolved it please let me know the resolution. Thanks! Respectfully, Cody Castor
  3. @svl7 , I was wondering if the specs for the BIOS were available. I am new to the BIOS modding community and don't want to make any mistakes with hardware upgrades and such. The two things right off the top that I was wondering about was: what, if any, changes are there to the speed capabilities of the RAM? I believe the current cap on my rig is 1600, but if 1866 is available with this mod then HELLS YEAH! Sorry got excited. Secondly, I was wondering if this BIOS will allow for me to swap from the AMD 6990M CrossfireX to GTX 860M SLI? If so, do you know of someone who has done it that I could speak with to make sure I do everything right? Any input would be greatly appreciated. As a noob to this I just don't want to brick my rig.
  4. Hi everyone. Got a quick question. I have an Alienware M18X R1 and I am looking to install a unlocked BIOS. However after searching the downloads section the only BIOS available is for the R2. Are those BIOS the same for both machines? I do not want to brick my rig on the very first BIOS mod attempt. Any help would be awesome.
  5. Hey everyone! not new to the Alienware, but new to the site and the modding aspect of the system. Current rig is the M18X R1.
