  1. It's like Adraesh said, with full uefi Windows 10 Installation you can use the original A13 bios.

120Hz Display is needed for the 1060/1070 (1070 needs a lot work to the Chassis), 980M will work with 60Hz Display.

Driver mod is always needed if you go higher than 680M.

Would it be possible to install one of these on an M17X R4 with an unlocked BIOS?

1070 is possible with a lot of work to the Chassis, you need a 120Hz Display and you can use the original A13 Bios.

For 1080 i'm not sure if there's one that fits in the Chassis and i think you need a extra power connector for the card.

or I go up with a 7/8/9 series (which will need unlocked bios).

    I had a 980M with stock A13 and have a 1060 at the moment with stock A13.

Both installed with Windows 10 and no problems. So i think there is no need for a unlockes bios to swap the gpu.

From my understanding to get the 980m to work on this laptop you need an unlocked a11 BIOS and modified vBIOS for the card, usually swicks and prema's mods respectively have been recommended.

If you switch from ATI to Nvidia 980M you also need a Nvidia 100W heatsink.
