  1. I though you were kidding at first then it got all serious. No worries.
  2. Still boned and not a great argument for wanting more battery life. Not with a desktop replacement that's a heavy duty gaming rig. You'd go with a different computer if you were really looking for something that gave you ideal battery life. Also, really worried about PSU death? Buy a second one as a backup.
  3. Did anyone catch what they are charging for the WIDI?
  4. Thankfully the world is more colorful that that. I have no doubt! Just a matter of cost. Just a few million to play the latest PC games on the go.
  5. Unless one is buying a desktop replacement. Then the expectations of portability need to be moved down a few notches.
  6. I see talk of things like concerns about battery life in the m18x. I can't imagine a situation where I'd bother using it not plugged in unless I was desperate or forced. It is a desktop replacement after all.
  7. I'm mega-excited for wireless HD output. I shouldn't be. But I am!
  8. As mentioned before, nothing in that article is remotely confirmed. I wouldn't worry too much until the machines are actually released and we can see what the options are.
  9. I'm thinking that with the little bit of extra space in the 18 inch screen model they can fit two graphics cards with proper cooling as well as all the other guts we are accustomed to from these beasts. It will mean more power draw for sure and it's not that difficult to supply that power. It's a desktop replacement so battery life really shouldn't be a big deal. EDIT: I should admit that I'm hopeful as hell and a bit biased right now. I'm getting a full refund for the machine in my sig and that money will be going directly towards an M18x. If it releases in late April that should be perfect timing with the 21 days it will take to get the funds back.
  10. Agreed. It would be a first (as far as I know) for their biggest and best portable rig to not include everything top of the line.
  11. Sweet. I'm dying (as I'm sure we all are) to get confirmation of a solid release date.
  12. The only real reason I can see to go from a R2 to a R3 is for weight and battery life plus some better architecture with SB. Otherwise the R2 is the better and more powerful machine. I think everyone saying that the R3 is the "new M15x" are spot on assuming the M18x comes out with dual GPU capability and a better screen.
  13. A good screen is still a big deal on a high-end laptop for most people. When I'm home I plug mine into the 50" plasma screen and rock that but. But who really buys a laptop to just keep it at home 100% of the time?
  14. I'd be totally cool with a M17x-R2 that has Sandy Bridge guts, a 120 mhz screen and the new hotness in mobile video cards.
  15. I really hope this is the case. Once my refund processes for my busted R2 it's just going to be a waiting game for the M18x.
  16. Dude. Ya gotta break up your thoughts into more than one long, unreadable run-on sentence. Line breaks are your friend.
  17. Those are the same pics from the link vikingrinn posted to NBR last week. The difference was over there they were in the 14x thread that got closed. And it looks like the article linked to the site in Italian was from January plus other info that's been floating around for quite a while. Unfortunately, this doesn't look like the goods or anything new.
  18. I'm definitely going to give that a shot on Monday. It'll be a bit of a pain to not have a laptop for however long it take them to bring out the M18x but I'll live. I was all geared up to talk to a rep Friday afternoon after multiple phone transfers and then work got in the way and I was too pooped when I got home to put up a fight.
  19. Gotta first say that it's good to have a site like this around. Thanks to a vikingrinn for the heads-up. So, I'm still going through my cheezed off period with my current replacement situation with Dell/Alienware (some peeps here gave some great advise over there before the thread was locked). I am going exactly through what this thread is about. R2 (with the 4870 GPUs) to R3 because an idiot tech trying to repair a Blu-ray drive fat-fingered my R2 to death. I'm not quite sure how he did it but he actually managed to scratch the screen, too. Anywho, I'm getting a R3 as a replacement and I'm not diggin' the fact that the screen is smaller and of lesser quality. It's not cool to lose the ability to have dual graphics cards. The machine, based just on specs, doesn't feel like Alienware All Powerful. It's a notch or two below. Especially for what I paid for in my original rig. I think it's great that there is something out there for people looking for a powerful unit that has better battery life and is lighter than the R2. But I bought my R2 as a pure desktop replacement so the weight and battery life mean very little to me. Almost nothing, in fact. It will be great to get something truly top of the line like what we are hearing about the m18x because the R3 certainly isn't. . . . For those who care and gave my some great advice from the old NBR thread: I am still trying to get someone who can give me some better upgrades on my replacement to make up for the $800 difference in the machines not to mention all the BS I've gone through since late January just trying to get a laptop back in my hands.
