  1. For some reason it doesnt work. I checked the akitio box and it works with its own powersupply and i did the paperclip trick with my evga 500w power supply and the fans turned on, but the green akitio light wont turn on when i use the molex to barrel. Any idea what could be causing the problem? Edit: am i meant to use the paperclip trick to start the psu? EDIT 2: IT WORKS SORRY IM SUCH NOOB WITH THIS
  2. Ok guys this is what it now looks like, I have glued the brown wires as I understand I do not need them? Then I twisted the two yellows together and placed them in the positive slot and i twisted the black wires together and placed them into the negative slot? Will this work for powering the akitio?
  3. Hey i've encountered a problem. I have one yellow one black and one brown wire in my molex, where does the brown wire go for the barrel plug? this is a picture of the cable:
  4. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Seller-Twin-Molex-Power-to-6-Pin-PCIE-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-Power-Cable-/162094829149?hash=item25bd9ace5d:g:eusAAOSwBLlVTIhy Would buying this and taking all the wires out of the 6 pin and placing the required wires in a solderless 2.5 x 5.5mm solderless plug work?
  5. Hey I noticed you said "worked", did something happen to it? Also what size must the barrel plugs be? Would these be fine? http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/21-x-55mm-solderless-plug-n54gu http://www.moddiy.com/products/PCI%2dE-6-Pin-to-3-Gridseed-Power-Plug-(2.1mm-DC-Barrel-Plug).html?setCurrencyId=6&gclid=CIX81cjE180CFQoTGwodAxMFhA
  6. Isn't that what this guy used? Around the 10:10 mark
  7. What about the 8 pin to 6 + 2 pin, if I plug the 6pin into a graphics card requiring 6pins will it still work even though the 2 pin isnt connected to anything? Also would this be okay for converting the dell 8 pin to pcie: http://www.moddiy.com/products/CPU-ATX-8%2dPin-to-PCIE-6%2dPin-Adapter-Cable-(10cm).html?setCurrencyId=6&gclid=CI3QkrXL1M0CFWQq0wod-DcD5A? Or this:http://www.moddiy.com/products/Bitcoin-Mining-CPU-8pin-TO-2-PCI%2dE-6%2b2pin-Splitter-Cable.html Need reply asap pls!
  8. Hello, I need some quick questions answered. I am a novice with electronics. So firstly after purchasing the Dell 220w DA-2 I realised the 8 pins (I believe they are called EPS or something?) are different to the 8 pin PCIe and all the 8 pin to 6 pin converters I can find online use the 8 pin PCIe to 6 pin. Now is there a place to purchase an 8 pin EPS to 8 pin PCIe converter so that I can convert it again into 6 pin? Also would doing this negatively affect the graphics card in any way? Also if I get an 8 pin pcie to 6+2 pin pcie will i be able to just plug in the 6 pin to the gpu and leave the 2 out and will it still work?
  9. Hey I was thinking of using the evga 500w power supply, is it a good enough quality? BTW i also have a question about the dell DA-2 as I see many people on youtube say they use it for their egpu in the description. Is it a PSU and if so isn't it 220w which is not powerful enough for most graphics cards? I really have no clue
  10. Hello, so I am thinking of building an EGPU for a mid 2014 13 inch macbook pro, I love my mac but it can't handle certain demanding games which I like to play such as Arma 3. My mac currently has windows 8.1 installed and its graphics card is Intel Iris. This is a list of what I think i'll need: 1) Akitio Thunder2 PCIe box 2) EVGA GTX 960 4GB MINI 3) Thunderbolt 2 cable 4) 500W power supply Can anyone tell me if i'm missing something? Also will I be able to use my internal monitor as I only have Intel graphics on the Mac? Thanks in advance for any replies!
