  1. @360precision I had a very similar issue with "TB connected but no egpu detected", and bugged me for weeks. What fixed it for me was removing the 2 halves of the boards in the Akitio case, and detaching/reattaching them to each other. They may just be loosely connected. Never had a problem since for months. Not a elegant solution, but worth a shot if nothing else works ;). Goodluck
  2. Hey @Rational I apologize for not responding to your questions. In regards to why i'm selling the cables is because I'm using a Titan X GPU, and after doing some research I found out the Dell PSU wasn't powerful enough for my needs. But being a bit too eager I purchased the cables, and realized this after. I eventually bought and EVGA 500w PSU and that's been faithfully powering my eGPU for almost a month now, no problems. As for the cables a 2 X 6pin is simply a cable with 2 6pin connectors on the same end, like a splitter, and a 2 X 6+2 is the same idea except the 6 pins have an additional 2 pins that can be used (making them 6 pin or 8 pin connectors). These connectors are generally used with GPU's as they'll either require 6 or 8 pins. I hope this makes sense, as it's how I've come to understand it. Anyone that would like to add or refine to this please feel free to chime in. If your's using the Dell PSU you may not want the 6pin to a barrel plug I still have, as it may not fit. But if your using a stronger PSU you can use it to power your Akitio. This link is for figuring out the psu requirements for a whole system, but if you zero everything out except for your GPU, it should give a decent idea of the amount of power you'd need from your power supply: http://powersupplycalculator.net/
  3. @ditkafan sorry about the late reply, my weekends get pretty hectic. I can send you the cable though. Wasn't able to PM for some reason, but shoot me a email at [email protected] and we can get the cable off to you. Let me know.
  4. @Alarming0 cool, i'm glad you heard back from them. If anyone wants this one i'll keep mine around then, but can't beat getting a freshly made cable.
  5. @ditkafan I'd have no problem to get it to you, but I assured @Alarming0 i'd offer it to him first. If he gets the cable from Antronst over the next day i'll gladly sell it to you though. Either way is cool with me, I know how annoying the first egpu build can be.
  6. Hey Sorry @Alarming0 and everyone else, i've been a little busy. Here are the photos I promised. I bought it from Antronst, as many of you probably have been trying to. Not working on any profit, it cost me $24 and i'd ship it for $24 to break even. I also bought a barrel plug to 6 pin for $18 from ScryptMiner64 if any one can use that... oh boy i didn't know what I was doing when I started this haha (But hopefully any of this stuff can help you guys)
  7. I have a Titan X Hybrid, and when I first started didn't realize the type of energy requirements i'd need. But i've learned since then and went to a 500w EVGA PSU, and my systems been working pretty smooth ever since.
  8. @Alarming0 in my 'mad dash' to get everything possible to make my egpu work I bought one of these cables: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252004704944?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D252004704944%26_rdc%3D1 But I ended up never using it as the Dell DA-2 wasn't strong enough to work for me. I still have it if you think you'd want it. Just throwing it out there. Let me know and I can get you some pics of it too when I get home.
  9. I had a Modular PSU - The Corsair 1000RM. Now I have this EVGA 500W: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H33SFJU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 Its fantastic, but I thought about a step up (550W Modular Unit) an getting this: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Modular-Supply-220-G2-0550-Y1/dp/B0106RDI3W/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1457470138&sr=1-1&keywords=EVGA+550 What GPU are you using? I went overkill originally for my Titan X, so i'd recommend considering getting what you really need for your psu (especially if your going compact): http://powersupplycalculator.net/
  10. @eleven it sucks when it's the little things, but hope this helps. In my case the corsair I had was also faulty and I didn't realize it. Since I checked the chips and changed the PSU it's been no kernel panics and my egpu functions without hiccups for hours. I Do notice I get a bit of GUI stutter/lag after a while though, so i'm looking into that now.
  11. @valix2fr I saw your issue and it seems similar to mine. I've traded in 2 gpu's and 2 psu's (Though I don't regret getting the evga 500 PSU to replace my Corsair, it is so much better) but I still kept getting no device detected. So I Bit the bullet and got another Akitio, and that solved my problem. Still i'm kind of inquisitive and didn't see what was wrong with my original Akitio, so I by chance tried pulling the board out the enclosure. What I found was that the chip with the thunderbolt ports was a little loose from the chip with the PCI E slot (Posibly from when I altered the box for my Titan), so I disconnected them and reconnected them. Then I tried the old Akitio again for kicks, and it worked perfectly. So i'm not sure if you messed with your Akitio, but it's worth giving this a shot.
  12. Thanks @Dschijn Ok, i'm going to get PSU tester, and if anything send it to back to get replaced.
  13. I've all but given up on my PSU at this point, would anyone know the exact power requirements for a Titan X, or where I could find them? I know it has a 6 & 8 pin connector on it. its a Corsair RM1000 PSU and i'm not sure if the unit is fault, or the molex barrel plugs i've been using are faulty. I was wondering if the Dell DA-2 would be an alternative, and I found someone who could help me with a 8-pin PCI-e to a 2 x 6+2 pin and a Barrel plug. I'm wondering if this would be able to power this card and the Akitio all at once, and open to thoughts...
  14. Ok it's not working again but I think you gave me the answer. I accidentally hooked up the PSU to the Akitio, but forgot to plug in the 6-8 pin connector to the GPU... and noticed it powered up like it always has. So i think my PSU isn't giving the GPU power , or not enough. This could of been the case for a while now, and I've gone through 2 Akitio Boxes and 2 different GPU's. Any thoughts on this, as I know the PSU is working enough to power the Akitio....
  15. I had 2 separate Molex cables running to 2 different ports on my PSU. Though recently, while testing combinations, I switched to just using 2 molex plugs on the same cable, instead of using 2 separate cables. I've also since disconnected and reconnected everything for about the 5th time, and the script has finally ran and installed properly! I've had many failed attempts over the last 2 days, but this is my first successful install on El Capitan 10.11.3, so i'm hoping it stays stable... I've also checked out the rest of your thread, and as a precaution, decided to run my second monitor as my main using the DP on the Titan x... hoping that maybe there's no mix up between my eGPU an the nvidia 790M in my iMac Thanks goalque
  16. I just reinstall a fresh version o OS X Capitan, and still nothing. On one reboot attempt though i did get this kernel panic: *** Panic Report *** panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8016dd255a): Kernel trap at 0xffffff7f99720567, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x000000008001003b, CR2: 0x00000000000004b8, CR3: 0x0000000838be5042, CR4: 0x00000000001627e0 RAX: 0x0000000000000000, RBX: 0x0000000000000001, RCX: 0xffffff7f999142d0, RDX: 0x0000000000000001 RSP: 0xffffff93be85b840, RBP: 0xffffff93be85ba30, RSI: 0x0000000000000006, RDI: 0xffffff8350958008 R8: 0x0000000000000020, R9: 0x0000000000000001, R10: 0xffffff8052ed9e20, R11: 0x000000000000002f R12: 0x0000000000000000, R13: 0x0000000000000020, R14: 0x000000000000702b, R15: 0xffffff7f999143e0 RFL: 0x0000000000010202, RIP: 0xffffff7f99720567, CS: 0x0000000000000008, SS: 0x0000000000000010 Fault CR2: 0x00000000000004b8, Error code: 0x0000000000000000, Fault CPU: 0x0, PL: 0 Backtrace (CPU 0), Frame : Return Address 0xffffff93be85b4d0 : 0xffffff8016cdf792 0xffffff93be85b550 : 0xffffff8016dd255a 0xffffff93be85b730 : 0xffffff8016df0233 0xffffff93be85b750 : 0xffffff7f99720567 0xffffff93be85ba30 : 0xffffff7f99721198 0xffffff93be85bb00 : 0xffffff7f996ccac5 0xffffff93be85bb40 : 0xffffff7f996cc5b4 0xffffff93be85bbc0 : 0xffffff7f996cbd62 0xffffff93be85bc20 : 0xffffff7f996cd6be 0xffffff93be85bc60 : 0xffffff7f98018535 0xffffff93be85bcf0 : 0xffffff7f9801014b 0xffffff93be85bd20 : 0xffffff8017296c01 0xffffff93be85bd70 : 0xffffff80172e07f9 0xffffff93be85bde0 : 0xffffff8016d9b8f1 0xffffff93be85be30 : 0xffffff8016ce3ef3 0xffffff93be85be60 : 0xffffff8016cc78a8 0xffffff93be85bea0 : 0xffffff8016cd72e5 0xffffff93be85bf10 : 0xffffff8016dbcd2a 0xffffff93be85bfb0 : 0xffffff8016df0a56 Kernel Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.4.1)[429C688E-8DDA-3D15-9C6E-6F3F4855C424]@0xffffff7f98006000->0xffffff7f98040fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[F398CE94-0FBD-3E8E-A7AB-55F7F05A81ED]@0xffffff7f9752c000 com.apple.nvidia.driver.NVDAResman(10.0.8)[57B619C4-A94E-341E-A276-5C4F83341C49]@0xffffff7f996ca000->0xffffff7f99942fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[F398CE94-0FBD-3E8E-A7AB-55F7F05A81ED]@0xffffff7f9752c000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.4.1)[ED747668-8718-3FB4-A4F4-2AC731D5B16F]@0xffffff7f9804d000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.4.1)[429C688E-8DDA-3D15-9C6E-6F3F4855C424]@0xffffff7f98006000 dependency: com.apple.AppleGraphicsDeviceControl(3.12.6)[F211EB28-182A-34BB-A610-87667618F925]@0xffffff7f991dd000
  17. Hey all, i recently switched out my Titan Z for a Titan X and was successfully able to run the script and install. But after a while I started getting random Kernel panics a few times, and then my Akitio simply stop recognizing my graphics card, though the Akitio and gpu still successfully start and shutdown with my computer every time. When I uninstall and attempt to reinstall the script I now get the message, "Thunderbolt connected, but no device detected". I've tried numerous times, and even upgraded my system to El Capitan thinking it could be a driver issue. My system is a Late 2013 iMac, and i'm using an Akitio powered by split barrel plug mod (both molex ports going to seperate rails). One more note, think a few times the computer would also attempt to read the egpu on startup and get stuck in a continous restart loop while loading drivers. Trying to do a complete fresh install of OSX and hope it works, but if this situation sounds familiar open to ideas from anyone.
  18. @Samurai have you checked out his link (It's ready made on ebay): http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/262278312736?
  19. Hey if this helps I had a conversation with scryptminer64 on ebay and asked him to make me a '2 x molex to 12v 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC barrel plug': http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/262278312736? He said he'll make more for anyone who needs it, just incase your squeamish about making wires, like myself.
  20. @Dschijn reading through this thread I think i might need the 2 x molex mod. I ran a Heavenly benchmark and the fan on the GPU really picked up during the end of it. Right after it finished the computer cut off with a kernel error. That could mean the Akitio isn't getting suffient power from my setup under heavy use correct? Think this'll do it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/381122883263?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-5-5X2-5mm-CCTV-Video-DC-Power-Plug-Terminals-Connector-Adapter-Power-99-Good/171633620159?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D1b2eb55e69f2483eb8964c2c9c56a883%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D321110117729
  21. Ahh ok now I get you on the barrel plug, i'll pick one up then an test. It's using one molex connection to feed the plug.
  22. @Dschijn thank you for the help. Would I use this to power the Akitio and my gpu? Right now I have a molex to barrel plug running directly to my 1000 PSU. The Titan Z is a very power hungry card (it's details said atleast a 700w PSU) so I'm not sure if that plug would work for me.
  23. I still think it might be the cable, I have an off brand TB cable too. Before I had the barrel plug I was using a riser and would on occasion get a similar occurrence. I'll try a switch out both though. Could you recommend a good barrel plug option, or did you create it yourself?
  24. Hmm the thunderbolt cable is a 6ft, think maybe that's causing issues?
