  1. Yes but when i set to enabled I should see the Intel video card over windows, and I don't see nothing.. I'm using pe4c at 2.0 speed connected to expresscard, i have any chance of overclocking my i5-3360m with the o.c. bios? thanks.

ok. Your connection is x1.2 meaning that you will benefit if have the iGPU enabled. Do you have an iGPU/dGPU model or iGPU only?

If you have the dGPU model do you have Optimus enabled?

You can OC your i5 using BCLK OC for almost 5% @ maximum of 3.6GHz ... no unlocked multipliers on any dual cores...

I have the igpu version, but the Intel card won't be enabled as I see.. The command setup var are permanent or I must reinsert them at every boot? Maybe I have to change tolud size? But what size I have to choose?

If you have connected your eGPU with an x2.2 connection then you will see no difference if you enable the iGPU. If you are using an x1.2 connection  as Khenglish said you will see a boost in performance.

There is no need to unlock your flash descriptor in order to change the uefi variables. you only need to unlock your FD in order to flash a modified MEFW and apply BCLK OC, set the SB ports @ x2.2 or x4.2 or generally flash user-modified BIOS.

Ignore the error message. Proceed with caution though, change only things that you need. Check here how to enable iGPU and/or internal screen when you are using an eGPU prior to boot.

Yes but when i set to enabled I should see the Intel video card over windows, and I don't see nothing..i'll try to set also the primary display , thanks. I'm using pe4c at 2.0 speed connected to expresscard. i have any chance of overclocking my i5-3360m with the o.c. bios? Can I brick system setting some overclock if it's unsupported by CPU? The paperclip can be removed or not ? thanks.

  3. I've decided to try.. To enable the igpu , so I've done paperclip mod, unlocked flag descriptor , flashed modified bios.. And now I'm stucked on the latest part: the guide say I need to have an USB with grub boot loader and the boot64.efi file, but I've tried some versions of grub for DOS and none of them recognize the command setup_var, if I use only the boot64.efi in boot/efi,I got error cause there isn't any operating system and I have to reboot.. .... What's the problem? Thanks.

  4. I already have connected a gtx960 to my e6430… everything stock.. it works good in 2.0 over windows 8.1 and linux ...But I want more performance cause GTA 5 have some small stuttering playing on external fhd display.. at the moment the internal igpu is disabled automatically, if I'll enable it using var mod or modified bios, the gaming performance will go better or will be the same? Or is better to upgrade my i5-3360m to some quad core i7?

    Thanks

  5. Hello techno guys. Im just a new member here. I would like to know if theres a solution with my diy egpu problem. I have a lenovo b490 i5 2.6ghz, 8gb ram dgpu nvidia 610m, exp gdc beast 8.3 via mpcie, gtx 750 ti, 600w atx psu, connected to external monitor. Everything works fine but the problem is, when im booting it up from set up 1.30 i always disconnect my external monitor and reconnect it after booting and logging in to windows, because when i dont, the loading screen and logo of lenovo will just hang and will not boot to the os and set up 1.30. If any of you guys have the same situation, can you share to me your solution, Im just afraid my vga connector will wear out in my orthodox process together with my egpu card.

Hi dan. I try your fix like the different combination of the delay swith of my exp gdc beast but still same result. I still need to disconnect my monitor before booting. I even try to put a electric tape to the 22nd pin in my mpcie as suggested from different user as a result, the set up 1.x doesnt recognize any egpu. Do you think its a hardware issue from exp gdc?

No, the pe4c do the same thing, is a problem regarding some laptop..

  6. the e6430 is arrived, 8gb ram and i5-3320m,  256 gb ssd, docking station...  i've connected at my pe4c 3.0 with an msi gtx 960 4gb  and it worked in windows and linux too, the signal goes out from the egpu to external monitor from bios to O.S., GOOD!!

in fact the igpu appear as disabled when i connect the egpu before booting, anyway the 3d gaming performances are good, 3dmark06 give me 20800 as score, on lenovo t530 with similar specs, i give 21400 having igpu +egpu enabled, but inside real games, e.g. gta5,  the performances was worst than now.

i've done some little modding to cool down the cpu cause the fan is always running connecting the heatpipes to metal frame with a thermal pad, and i noticed a slower temperature and noise.

any advice? i would increase gaming performances if possible, what can i upgrade? thanks to everyone.

@aldimeola81 I've tried using Windows 10 and Windows 7 (Same issue on both). Currently using Windows 10. I have three GPU's showing up in device manger (Intel iGPU, AMD dGPU, and my eGPU). I have tried disabling the dGPU, but I'm not sure that's ever been successful, as I've always seen it appear in device manager after boot. In Setup 1.30 I have tried both the disable and demote option for the dGPU. I have tried using this with delay and without. I have seen everyone recommend this setup with no delay, so that's what I've been testing with the most.

you need to disable dgpu on bios, with a bios commands or modded bios, try to see inside the e6440 thread, i haven't done yet to mine cause it works already fine but there are many mods for that laptops, bye.

  8. The new e6430 (igpu only) is arrived, i've tried and it worked like a champ, the strange thing is that: the igpu appear as disabled from bios, but the performance into gaming are better than in my t530 with optimus enabled egpu (same hardware)

anyway, the egpu acts as primary gpu so i can use it also into bios, linux or everywere.

no modding until now, my score in 3dmark 06 is 21000

@dan i had the same problem with my t530, i've changed primary for that cause, you can do a dsdt override to solve but is not an easy step..not for me at least, the guides over that forum are very hard to understand, i don't know why.. maybe I’m only a stupid guy..

@CrzyGK how many gpu are shown into device manager? have you tried to disable the dgpu into windows and restart? are you connecting the egpu before boot with no delay? what o.s are you using?

  9. Hi everyone..

My e6430 is on the way, with i5-3320m and 8gb ram, i've bought a docking station too..  maybe it will arrive tomorrow or today, I’ve read the first page of this topic and several pages after but i need some advice:

what upgrade cpu is better for egpu purposes  and overclock? i don't want to build an extreme warm pc , so i was thinking about an i7-3820qm or i7-3720qm, with +400 mhz overclock i think they will go really fast and are priced not so high..

what is an easy and permanent way to overclock system before windows and without using any partition and software? using a custom bios is not enough? the paperclip method is the right way?

sorry for many answer but i always owned lenovo thinkpads and i don't know nothing about dell .

    thanks.

  10. Hi there, someone can say me what's the record score on 3dmark 06 or firestrike for an egpu connected on express card until now? What's the laptop that scored better? Dell e6430 or what? Thanks.

At the moment I'm testing my w510 and t530 ( specifically bought for egpu purposes) with pe4c and gtx 960.. The score in firestrike disabling dgpu in windows is the same: 5200.. And the w510 has only a gen 1 express card and no optimus.. In gaming the performance also is about the same.. Same ram ;8gb, ssd, but different CPU: w510 has i7-920xm and t520 i5-3360m I really can't understand

Selecting eGPU to do PhysX will only matter if You want to play PhysX games.

I tried CPU at factory clock already... same...

I’ve seen your bench results, the egpu when in x230 goes clocked  much slower.. why? do you have overclocked the egpu in dell? with my t530 and gtx960, when i overclock the egpu, i have slower system than stock , try to get the card at same frequency than x230 and try, bye.

    that's mine

Here is fresh run with X230 (very old Windows7 install and on a HDD). Comapring it todays E6430 run.
    http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/7767217/fs/7762670

E6430 has SSD with no more than 7 days old Windows install... so it is fresh!

X230 beats it out of the water. And E6430 is running on CPU OC!  eGPU was on default clocks on both runs (X230 and E6430).

Don't look at the GPU clocks- they show weird numbers. When opening "View run details" after the run, then there are correct clocks (default).

Should I try the E6430 with 8GB of ram instead of 16GB?

have you tried to select the egpu on nvidia driver under physX? try also to return cpu to  factory clock, maybe the overclock make only bad things in that case

  13. are you sure the hd4000 is enabled inside windows? maybe the bios disable it when see a egpu connected, try to install intel driver without the egpu and connect after, bye.

what score do you receive from x30 and e6430 on 3dmark06? bye.

I am sure. I have disabled the dGPU (Nvidia NVS5200M) and booted into a Windows with eGPU disconnected. HD4000 confirmed working, then plugged in eGPU (GTX670). Get's detected nicely.

Have not done the 3DMark06 test. Don't see the point. My GTX670 scores are lower in FireStrike 13 test than with Lenovo X230.

Have you seen if the PCI speed is 2.0 when playing 3d games? You can see it into gpuz while nvidia logo is rotating into nvidia control panel. Set profile to maximum performance and be sure you have the battery installed and the right power supply, Try resetting bios to default official ROM before with no overclock , and try with windows 8.1 clean install. ,

Can you post your firestrike result with both PC? Bye

Hmm... I have the latest HD4000 update from Dell website, but they have very old version of HD4000 drivers. But as soon as I try to install official Intel drivers for HD4000 from Intel webpage, they dont install as my system says it is uncompatible with my version of HD4000 ... Any thoughts how to go around it?

  15. Have same thing with Dell E6430.

3Dmark13 FireStrike benchmark was about 1000 points lower with this quadcore i7-3740QM cpu in Dell, than it was with my Lenovo X230 with just i5-3320M.

Same eGPU (PE4L 2.1b+ GTX670 OC).   Ok... bench is lower, no big deal, lets try games.

Tried loading up RYSE- Son of Rome. The FPS was so slow and so much frame drops with Dell e6430- unplayable. Didn't matter that i set ingame graphics to low.

5 minutes later my eGPU setup was connected to Lenovo X230- flawless gameplay. So smooth. Could even play with High graphics option!

So definetly something wrong with Dell +eGPU...

And I bought that Dell for 450 euros (near maxed out specs tough:16GB ram, 256GB SSD,i7-3740QM)! imageproxy.php?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsslcdn.techinferno.com%2Femoticons%2Femoticons%2Fbiggrin.gif&key=f1effe3481d11d02379937fd642a08b4c36bb96fbedf15589de9e4df8c6605b9 To be better eGPU platform than X230...  as I read the E6430 performance thread before buying the Dell.

I was about to do same step, swapping my t530 (igpu only)connected to GTX960 4g msi to e6430… cause the games was stuttering with high frame rate too(60\35fps).. But was only a problem of Intel hd4000 driver, after updated it the t530 flies at ultra setup on fhd monitor.. Recommended.
