  1. So it turns out it was just a matter of ensuring the external monitor was on before I started the computer! Problem solved...
  2. @Dschijn It may be, will have another look. It may be the order in which I am activating/deactivating the egpu
  3. @Dschijn Good afternoon! I have currently have a GTX 960 and MBPR 2014 GT750m running using reFIND. Until recently I have had no problems however when I have switched ( or attempted to switch ) from running the egpu on an external monitor to the internal screen or vice versa the warning triangle comes up in device manager on the GTX 960 and I am told the GPU has encountered a Code 43 and that it has stopped working properly. Has anyone encountered similar issues? It seems that the only resolution is to completely uninstall all drivers using DDU or similar and then reinstall. Yet even that has decided to stop working for me now! Thank you and to everyone else for their great support so far. Any hints?!
  4. @Enano of course I will! Regarding the 960 did you manage to trim the 6 pin power connector down so it would fit within the akitio case? And have you had any cooling issues?
  5. @Enano Ah Ok, I mean I have used DDU utility to completely uninstall the drivers and and have the d750m disabled. I have under locked it to 84% and reduced clock speeds by 150mhz but kombustor still crashes after 10-15 mins. After reading through this forum some more it appears another user has had trouble with the 750ti and a series of constant kernel panics. With that in mind I am acquiring a friends evga superclocked 4gb 960 to see if it'll work with a powered graphics card rather than through the riser. It is encouraging that you have a similar setup and it works! my apologies for the constant barrage of questions but you are being incredibly gracious on the handling of them. Thank you
  6. @Enano @Dschijn I have noticed that unlike with the previous power adaptor once the recent crashes have occurred there are no power 'spikes' recorded on MSI afterburner, suggesting perhaps it is a software/driver issue? If I downgrade to a 353 driver I am worried I will lose optimus ability as I am running a mbpr with a discrete 750m gpu...is there a workaround you might suggest?
  7. @Enano Hi there, so I am currently using the Dell DA-2 for my 750ti egpu though the game crashes have not stopped. I have even limited the power consumption on MSI afterburner and yet it does not seem to achieve anything...do you have any other recommendations? Thank you!
  8. I have ordered dell da-2, will convert to a barrel plug and report back to see if I am still having problems! Hopefully the increase in power should help
  9. @Dschijn Thank you will try that this morning, had not applied an FPS limiter, are there any you recommend specifically? @EnanoI am trying to the keep the setup as 'plug n play ' as possible, if an upgraded PSU is required should I purchase a desktop pc one or would it be possible to use a more powerful 'brick' ? The crashes have only started happening recently and the temperature of the brick has not been excessive at all. I am only concerned that if I downgrade the drivers below 361.75 I will lose the optimus support on my mbpr d750m, would this be the case? Apologies for the bombardment of questions, as soon as I have perfected it I will put up a build description as I believe this is a great budget 'plug n play ' solution.
  10. @Dschijn @Enano Good morning. I have got optimus working with my dgpu (750m) mbpr and a gtx750ti which I run off a 120w PSU ( plug n play ). Recently I have started having crashes despite underclocking the GPU to 98% on MSI afterburner. Do you think it is a driver issue ( currently have the 361.75 ) and is there anything you would recommend to prevent the power spikes which, as above, seem to be causing the crash? Thank you
  11. @juniordiscart Good evening, I have followed your instructions on my 2014 MBPR gt750m and have installed reFIND with apple_set_os.efi. I am having difficulties on the final step however and was wondering if you might be able to help? When I run the 'integrated.bat' or 'dedicated.bat' I get the response: C:\Users\Tom Bolitho\Desktop\gpu-switch-master\gpu-switch-master\windows>gpu-swi tch.exe -i 'gpu-switch.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. C:\Users\Tom Bolitho\Desktop\gpu-switch-master\gpu-switch-master\windows>pause Press any key to continue . . . When I then boot in via reFIND and boot windows the integrated card is not active. If I click 'apple_set_os.efi' prior to booting the 'EFI Windows' partition ( or the other windows partition shown in the reFIND boot menu ) it goes to a black screen and no intel hd drivers appear to install or update. Is there something else I am missing ? Many thanks for any response
  12. Good Afternoon, I have just installed the latests Nvidia Drivers on my MBPR ( Iris Pro + 750m ) in Windows 10 and have my GTX 750ti recognised in device manager as well as some of the options in Nvidia Control Panel. It does not give me an option, however, to enable a total switch to the GTX 750ti for applications and games. Is there an additional step I must undertake ( presumable to enable optimus and allow a total switch ? ) I have tried disabling the gt750m however this then prevents nvidia control panel from recognising the gtx750ti. Many thanks for any response
  13. Good evening, Dare I ask the question, but there seems to not yet be a conclusive answer..using the method outlined in another topic ( install reFIND ) is it yet possible to run an egpu via an internal screen on a mbpr with gt750m windows 10? Before I try I just wanted to have one last trawl for experiences. Many thanks, P3nzance
  14. @Dschijn Ok thank you, that may well be it. Have lowered the power target and we shall see what happens.
  15. I have been operating with an akitio thunder 2 and gtx750ti and external monitor connected via HDMI for a few weeks now without any dramas. Today I have noticed that while gaming, after about 30 minutes the game freezes, the monitor then goes black and I am unable to play. Though the game locks up and the monitor does not switch back on, I can still here the background sound and my laptop screen is perfectly functional ( can move mouse across it ), although I cannot access task manager or close the program. Is this something people have encountered and if so is there a way around? It has only just started happening after previously working fine. I am running windows 8.1 Thank you for your help in advance.
  16. @Dschijn Having played around with my setup for a couple of days I am curious as I am constantly being nagged, what would I need to change/install if I were to upgrade to windows 10 and is it simply too unstable to do? Many thanks
  17. That would be the problem! Often overlook the easiest solution. Man thanks
  18. @Dschijn Thank you for your help, I am just ironing out a few kinks however there does not appear to be any sound when using the GTX 750ti with external monitor. Researching it appears I may need to implement a set up 1.2 or 1.3, is this correct? Or is there another method?
  19. @DschijnThank you very much, have it working fully now and underclocked to prevent any power usage errors. Obviously with the d750m cannot play on the internal LCD however all seems to be working fine on the external monitor. Is it possible to play it in clamshell mode?
  20. It does not...just downloading updated drivers now having installed windows 8.1 from scratch. Will try your method and report. I noticed in a previous post of yours that the hdmi lead was connected to both laptop and egpu, should this be the case the whole way through the boot process? Or only once windows has booted. Thanks
  21. Ok brilliant will give it a go and let you know the result, thank you. As I understand it the 750ti does not need an external 6 pin connector, but we shall see!
  22. @DschijnMany thanks for your swift reply. Should Windows be installed in EFI mode? As currently it is MBR
  23. Setup: Mid 2014 Retina Macbook Pro with GT750m. Graphics Card : EVGA GTX 750ti , Akitio Thunder 2. Windows 8.1 Power Supply: 120W 'Brick' To all, If anyone could help I would be immeasurably grateful. Essentially I have tried and failed miserably when it comes to setting this up. Initially I connected the Macbook Pro - Thunder 2 - Graphics Card and External Monitor. Booted Black and would not progress. Then tried 'hot plugging'- switching on the akitio after selecting the windows OS. I was able to get to the desktop however neither the external graphics card was recognised in the Device manager ( didn't even appear' ) nor did the external monitor work ( not even a flicker, remained black ). Needless to say drivers were updated beforehand. I have also tried installing the 1.3 setup although having great difficulty as not sure how to install windows in EFI mode! Even tried converting from GPT to MBR but ruined the partition somehow Any help to the above would be enormously gratefully received. As you can see I am on somewhat of a learning curve but determined to make it succeed. All the Best, p3nzance
