  1. Overpriced? I guess you'll get some real cash back from your laptop.
  2. Can they both be manually controlled too? Cool post that vid! It's time for us to start a G46VW owners lounge
  3. Yes that's a wise choice for a smoother experience. Test having the eGPU connected during boot-up and tell me if it makes any difference.
  4. Holy crap, that's right! Well then I suggest having the eGPU Power up and connected during boot to see if it makes any differnence for the system. I have to blame My lazy investigation on my iPad sitting on a train with a crappy connection. And yes, as nando is saying, your system is a bit outdated and cannot perform the desired 1.2-link for eGPU (now you're running at 1/2 of that bandwidth).
  5. Also, did you have I powered up during boot or in windows when it ran smooth?
  6. @madtail79 Ok, is there any bios option for disabling the dGPU (250m)? You Will have much better bandwidth with 1.2opt link. The first time you had it running did you have the eGPU powered up and connected during boot or later in windows? edit: this option is often called "switchable graphics".
  7. @madtail79 Ok, so after setting it up I worked perfectly, then after the first shutdown it now works really bad? Can you post a picture of your display adapters from device manager? Also, download GPU-Z and look what linkspeed it's reporting (take a screenshoot). //Jacobsson
  8. @P4TCH Hmm 850M is quite a nice card, could be pretty hard to beat in real life performance via 1.2opt eGPU. There shouldn't be a problem using the eGPU via wlan mPCIe slot, this works for almost any notebook. If I were you i would make all benchmark tests for gaming with the 850M so that you can compare performance to the higher-end eGPU write-ups from the leader board. What games are planning to run? Look in the write-ups, find gaming benchmarks and compare these with your system.
  9. Consider this before purchase Why US$113-shipped PE4C V2 is better than ~US$99-shipped EXP GDC? + BPlus have a history of delivering quality products to the DIY eGPU community + Easier to purchase with cheaper logistics + Has H1PA option -> can connect to a desktop PC to extend the slot + Has a x2 link option + Has locking x16 slot + Can have detachable HDMI in both ends (especially good for mini PCIe users) by using a PM3N/EC2C + HDMI-to-mHDMI cable Why EXP GDC V6.0 is better than PE4C V2? + import tax free for some EU countries + Dell DA-2 native input cable -> Customer can buy the PSU locally in their own country + Rubber protected (re-enforced) mPCIe/EC cable + Very good shape of adapter Disadvantages: - Quality issues with dubious return policy: USB port power, faulty mPCIe/EC cables, PCI Reset Delay faulty on some samples - logistics/delivery/purchase is more complex via Taobao agents - No x2 link capability
  10. @Uftherr I can't blame you for having this opinion! From now I can no longer promote the EXP GDC since too many people have quality problems and no service from Cloud. My advice is to simply hold on to older hardware like the PE4L2.1b and wait for the new PE4C v2.1 to roll out. With that said, please continue posting your results and experience.
  11. @Arise Thanks for clarifying the problem here. The third option would be awesome, hacking one of those FN-shortcuts for manipulating fan speed with a look-a-like onscreen slider as the brightness/volume has
  12. @Arise Very awesome guide! I agree, full fan blast doesn't bother me the slightest (since it's not near 2570P-loudness) during gaming or benchmark! So I guess what we need is a simple GUI/shortcut made for easy manipulating of the arguments?
  13. If you find a solution for both CPU and GPU fan control please share. I was thinking running the GPU fan manually (on lower speed) could help keep a lower "ambient" temp inside the system too. As you say, it's mostly the CPU fan that makes noise.
  14. Lol my bad, I meant Hwmonitor hwtools is an eGPU adapter manufacturer. Hmm so the GPU fans should run if CPU temps gets out hand? Sorry if I misinterpret what you are saying. My GPU fan seems to stand still if no gaming is going on.
  15. So by manually you want put a integer as argument, unlike this case a slider? At least according HWmonitor the fans hit 100% what I can see. Good enough for me!
  16. Please share =) I do think "notebook fan control" can do this. EDIT: Yes it works, I use the "ASUS M52VA" -profile.
  17. @Mikhailovich I don't wanna sound like a douche (don't misunderstand me here) but I was very very clear to explain exactly why you guys should not connect a regular PCIe 4-pin w/o the exp gdc atx cable in the DA-2 power interface! This is due to reverse polarity and this is noted in my first post (read this carefully). With that said, welcome to the thread Edit: The 8pin DA-2 interface and PCIe 6pin power routing port are directly connected so it should be safe to connect a 6pin male from the ATX psu, just be very careful with the DA-2 power interface, I don't wanna hear about someones house burning down!
  18. Haha agreed =) I still don't like my temps atm, Could you share what BIOS settings you use for TDP and CPU? "uTDP set to 72watts", how did you do this? Thanks! EDIT: And why have a limited turbo duration, mine is maxed at 120s? For example: It runs 4-cores 2.7GHz then falls back, no matter temp, to 2.5GHz (probably after 120s).
  19. @Ryuuga Great job buddy! I think it looks great. Have you re-pasted the CPU of yours? A good thermal paste can drop temps significantly!
  20. I ordered Coollaboratory Liquid Pro a couple of days ago (I think it's what you have) which uses gallium =) I'm gonna reset Throttlestop, forgot to do this after CPU change. Let's hope these current temps are faulty!
  21. Well then I should probably change to a 3840QM then :S These temps are not even comparable right now!
