  1. Damn!! This is beyond great. I'm gonna order one asap! Thanks for noticing this.
  2. Cool! A powered riser seems redudant then. If there is any interest I could make a tutorial for you guys how to make a proper "DA-2 to PCIe adapter" cable that could be used for the Thunderbox (with minimum or none modification to the DA-2 itself)? Of course a closed enclosure would require modding.
  3. No problem buddy! This seller shows a picture of a REV2.2, he also says it's REV2.2, see third picture in link: Original Laptop mainboard / motherboard G46VW for ASUS, 100% Tested, warranty 30 days-in Motherboards from Electronics on Aliexpress.com
  4. Don't take my word for it though, it's just something that I remember from another implementation that I can't find, @Tech Inferno Fan what are your thoughts on this? Any other GPU from the 7xx-series seem fine though, look at the implementation list. Do your GPU even show up in device manager?
  5. Isn't the 750ti known to need setup 1.x for PCI compaction? I'm on a phone atm so I can't help much.
  6. Jesus, I don't get how this is possible for profit?! Since I already have to EXP GDC at home I don't have any reason get another, even if it's tempting =)
  7. @Tech Inferno Fan That is awesome! There really is no counterpart to the DA-2 in my opinion. We should probably start making some DA-2 to PCIe converter cables for this adapter, with inbuilt power rocker switch. This could be great for the eGPU community.
  8. @jcagara08 I don't think you need to worry! To be honest most cards seem to perform on lower TDP during eGPU setups for different reasons. I have also seen claims for the DA-2 output 240W, so it might have 20W buffer. The worst that can happen is that the DA-2 gets overloaded and the voltage will drop and cause unstable system performance/BSOD.
  9. Taobao is also China so it would take approx the same time as aliexpress I'm afraid

  11. Tech Inferno Fan>> June-16-2015: Dschijn advises there is pre-fabricated Dell DA-2 to barrel+PCIe cable is available on ebay-US for US$16 or US$21!! Perfect to use a 220W Dell DA-2 (enough for a GTX970) use with the AKiTiO Thunder2 eGPU enclosure or others using a DC barrel connector. That being the most plug'n'play solution to use this AC adapter from the three other highly regarded ones posts in order below.-> no longer being sold Nope, the DA-2 doesn't use PCIe power interface. Solder is required unless there isn't some DA-2 to PCIe cable converter that I have missed. The red triangles are where you need to cut the DA-2 male to make it compatible with a PCIe 8-pin female extender. You will also keep the "notch" for polarity guidance (even though this would make only fit on way). The nether right 12V on the DA-2 can not be used this way, will result in shortage. The Sense wire will be shorted against the PCIe 12V line, the sense wire on the PCIe- "female side" should be cut off and isolated from the circuit. The Remote pin need to be grounded to power on the DA-2 it could probable be left alone since it might be grounded on the PCIe female side. Conclusion: I can't see how this could be done properly w/o soldering or cutting cables. If you don't like the idea of soldering you could always do it this way: <hr> From http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7205-us%24189-akitio-thunder2-pcie-box-16gbps-tb2-67.html#post111759
  12. Yeah I don't see any problem with that. Just use an ATX PSU and use one molex for the riser and the PCIe power for the GPU. Might not need the AC-adapter at all since the riser would do the job, at least that's how I supply my Thundertek PCB. For the DA-2 solder is required (if there isn't some DA-2 special cable converter that I have missed).
  13. I would change the 8-pin DA-2 male to a PCIe 6-pin male. Then use y-splitters, something like this. Of course one could clean up the cable work so it looks even nicer by cutting and solder the cables to the necessary lengths. I'd probably make my own 6-pin female input beside the 5.5/2.5mm input so that I can have the enclosure closed if I wanted to.
  14. I'm not sure if I missed the concept of the pico PSU, wouldn't it need a power brick anyway? The Dell DA-2 is native 12V and 220W, isn't that optimal for our usage? Thanks!
  15. Well it seems like Cloud has abandoned Aliexpress for now, his store doesn't seem to exist anymore, weird?!
  16. Damn, this is great news, that price is perfect! I mean the PSU alone is pretty expensive due to its weight. Good find!
  17. @ha1o2surfer Hi buddy! Here is an update for my setup: I finally got it working but not with the performance I expected. My procedure has to be done like this (GPU drivers installed): 1. Power up and boot windows 8.1 2. Give power to the eGPU 3. Plug TB to system, the card get recognized but no external screen recognized. 4. Safe remove the eGPU, plug it again: and voila external screen recognized Plugging twice is the only way I can have it running at the moment, pretty irritating. Resume from sleep mode w/ eGPU = black screen forever, until hard reboot. Boot with eGPU attached = BSOD "DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" for nvlddmkm.sys I benchmarked my GTX660 in 3Dmark11 with a lousy ~5300 GPU score I guess I should make a CUDA-Z throughput/bandwidth test for the setup to see what's up...
  18. Is the 220W AC-adapter confirmed? The picture looks like a generic ~100W 5.5/2.5mm adapter to me. EDIT: I'm in a live chat with the store a the moment to check, I'll update here later
  19. I like questions, don't worry about the English No, the G46VW is not for sale anymore since it's old. There might be some shops selling a used/refurbished system, do you want me to check?
  20. Are speaking of the Dell DA-2 220W PSU? 3x Black = GND 3x White = +12V (12.35V if I remember correctly) 1x Blue = It should be connected to GND in order to power up the PSU 1x Red = some temp sensor cable
  21. I expect that everyone of this community has the common sense to down vote this guy! EDIT: "Comments are disabled for this video."
  22. Ok I see, I have not much experience of Macbooks, but here are two implementations that uses the Macbook + sonnet: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/4271-%5Bus%24250-thunderbolt-egpu%5D-2013-11-macbookair-win7-sonnet-expresscard-pe4l.html#post59391 [gtx680] + [PE4L] + [sonnet Echo Pro] + [2012 MBA] + [Windows 8.1] I think you might find some good stuff there! Keep us updated =)
  23. This question is macbook and thunderbolt related so it will be much better answered in: DIY eGPU experiences [version 2.0] Present your problem with screenshots, start with your error code in device manager. Good luck!
