I know you guys are probably sick of me now and all my issues, but like I said....I have the GPU recognized on my computer and in NVIDIA GeFroce Experience. But, when I go to the NVIDIA control panel to try to make the 970 the main card, it shows this: http://i.imgur.com/LB171KR.png?1 It says the 970 only has 1 of 2 ancor communications and its grayed out, what does this mean? I think its a problem with the DVI to HDMi cable I'm using? Any help would be extremely appreciated!

I currently have the HDMI plugged into the GPU going to my macbook pro. Are you saying I need to plug it into my external monitor for it to work?

Update: I brought my PSU to the electrician dude and he fixed it and everything is working. My computer recognizes the GPU but when I play a game on steam it seems like it still is trying to use the 750M inside my macbook pro and not the new 970 I have installed. How do I get steam and other gaming platforms such as Origin on my PC to utilize the 970??

US$189 AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box (16Gbps-TB2)
blaine_sieck replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in Enclosures and Adapters
Yeah I told you I'm new to this, I wasn't sure what wire to cut, I did't do the cutting, I brought it to an electrician dude and he told me those would be easy to cut and I told him to go for it. Should I just order another PSU and tell him to cut the correct wires? Or is this still salvageable...? -

Here is what the cable looks like. Would it be safe to use those 2 wide 4 pin to 8 pin to power the GPU until I can get the extension to power the akitio with the 6+2 like you reccomended? -

I got the 6+2 to fit but the problem is its on the same wire that has my power for the Akitio and the cable isn't long enough for both to be plugged in...its just one or the other. Is there some kind of extension I can order for the DC so it will reach the back of the Akitio? -

No the PSU doesn't have a native 8 pin. It has a 6pin thing with a 2 pin next to it but I don't think they fit into the 8 pin. I can't remember but I think either my PSU or GPU came with this adapter thing that took the 2 wide 4 pin things and it converts to 8 pin. And yes the guy who did my electrical work did the paper clip trick -

Alright well I tinkered with it for a few hours and it appears to be working. Thanks for your help!! -

What do you think the problem is? The GPU fan is spinning so I'd assume its functioning. Does it matter which HDMI port I have plugged into on the Akitio? Anything I did wrong? -

I am using a 2013 15" Retina MacBook Pro with the 750M, Akitio Thunder2, Gigabyte 970 Mini ITX, and EVGA PSU. I am running Windows 10 via Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. Here are the pictures: -

I can't get the computer to recognize the GPU, I installed the drivers before plugging in everything and it won't recognize it. Any ideas? -

How do I boot into the GPU? It won't show up when I restart then hold option -

Okay I got it to fit and have everything ready. One last question? Do I need to plug an HDMI cable into the GPU or does everything go via thunderbolt? -

No I can't even fit the card into the slot with the casing off. Like I said the card fits into the akitio just barely, but the slot isn't lined up so I can't plug in the graphics card. How do I get it to work?? I can provide a picture if that doesn't make sense -

I just got my Akitio and GTX 970 Gigabyte Mini ITX and it fits but just barely, and it's not wide enough so the graphics card will actually plug in...how do I get it to fit?! -

I'll probably just keep it open, I don't have to skills to cut the case. So will the GPU have enough airflow if the case is open? I would assume yes but I'm new to this stuff -

So the only way to make it fit is to make cuts in the Akitio case? -

So I just bought the gigabyte 970 mini ITX because I thought it would fit...is it really that big of a deal having it fit versus leaving the case open? I would order the Inno3D 970 if there is an advantage to having a closed Akitio but I can't find anywhere to purchase it. Also, how would you close the akitio anyways, even if the card fits how do you wire in the PSU power into the case directly into the GPU? I just don't see how that would fit -

It makes sense now. Thank you so much! -

Oh god it finally makes sense now! Just one final question, so I don't plug any power directly into the GPU? Thanks for bearing with me by the way -

Okay I promise this is my last post, I think I have an idea. Sorry for bothering you guys all day. Tell me if this would work: I would just buy a basic 500w power supply like you would if you were building a computer, plug that in directly to the graphics card, put the graphics card in the Akitio box without the cover so the power supply could connect to the GPU, then plug the default power supply that came with the Akitio into the back of the enclosure to power that. So basically I just would leave the cover off the Akitio, please tell me this would function properly and power both the GPU and akitio! -

Actually just kidding, ignore that Amazon link. Would this work?? RockMiner R-Box Power Cable (4 PK) 12v PCI-E to 3x 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC barrel plugs -

So I found this on Amazon, would this work? I know it's not available for sell anymore but in theory... PCI-E 8-Pin to (4) 2.5mm DC Barrel Plug for RockMiner ASIC Miner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LNDP85A/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Sc9rwbP1C0T8S
